Boob or bust, this can’t be right!

LouiseEH · 13/02/2019 22:15

I just measured myself using the boob or bust measurements and the recommended bra size is 34JJ!!!

I’m going to redo it when I get a chance as I’m pretty sure this isn’t right 😂

How has this method worked for you?

I'm a 30F/FF. I haven't changed size, but I used to wear 36D as well. And I thought it fit, that it was normal the band rides up and you need to stuff your boobs back into cups.
I can't even imagine wearing a 36 back now. What would it even do, just flap around?

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/02/2019 10:22

Bras are one area where it really can be worth going to a shop.

They will take one look at you and know your approximate size and what styles work for you, and you just sit there is a dressing gown while the assistant runs in and out with as many bras as it takes to get one that fits correctly.

Really worth the extra cost over M&S, supermarkets etc. If budget is an issue, if you can stretch to one bra of the correct size, look for more online from discount shops like brastop.

While I don't agree with the plus 4 method I don't get along with the Bob method either!
I took their advice but after trying on approx 30 odd bras and none fitted I've settled for a middling ground of plus 2
It's a compromise as although my boobs look a bit better in a 100% properly fitted bra its not worth the cost or my comfort. (my skin is super sensitive so raging itch and welts where the band sits and can't wait to whip it off!)

I come in at a 28D but it's just too tight - I think with smaller back sizes you don't have any padding round the ribs so it can be uncomfortable. A 30C is much nicer to wear for me, and even a 32C in some makes seems to be about the same (and much easier to find!). It's not an exact science.

KatharinaRosalie · 14/02/2019 10:57

Of course it's not an exact science, but gives you a ballpark. Bras are like shoes - I sometimes try on 10 pairs to find one that's comfortable. And while I'm generally a 6, I need 5.5 in some models and 6.5 in others. It is unlikely I will ever need a size 9 shoe though - similarly, it's unlikely that a person who measures 28 inches under bust will need a 36 bra.

Kaz2200 · 14/02/2019 11:22

Can i ask all you experts a question, I wear a 36F which I am confident is correct, however nearly all the underwires are too wide on my body if that makes sense. I have two bras that I can wear from Matalan of all places. Been fitted at Bravissimo, and all felt right at first, but within half an hour they are digging in under my armpits. Does anyone have any advice.

BillywigSting · 14/02/2019 11:35

kazz2200 it could be the style of the bra that is the problem. A bit like clothes different styles ( balcony, plunge, full cup etc) suit different people.

For example I can't get on with plunge bras at all, no matter what size I'm either gappy or spilling out but balcony style ones fit me perfectly, to the extent that I only have one that isn't that style now and that's a sports bra

Kaz2200 · 14/02/2019 11:40

I agree about styling, it's just how many bras do you buy, as it's hard to tell by just trying on, I hate to think how much money I have spent.

Redken24 · 14/02/2019 11:41

@kazz2200

You need to lurk on bratabase for narrow underwire bras

Kaz2200 · 14/02/2019 11:41

Also I think balcony fit me best, but look awful under anything fitted. I need a t shirt bra, but they are the worst for rubbing.

KatharinaRosalie · 14/02/2019 12:05

Kazz have you tried Panache bras? I can't wear them as the underwire is too narrow.

Kaz2200 · 14/02/2019 12:09

Are all the panache bras narrow, I've tried a ckeo, but it was the wrong size, I will have to try again.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 14/02/2019 12:10

I think this method works well for some, but not for others. I ordered a couple of bras in the size it gave me and the cups were massive...I could fit my whole fist in with my boob! I'll stick with my 38gs which fit perfectly.

mistermagpie · 14/02/2019 13:01

I'm still baffled! So, I was 31 inches underbust and 33 over. So I would be a 30B? But a 32b doesn't fit right (too small)...

michaelbaubles · 14/02/2019 13:08

But a 32B has a smaller cup than a 30B. So it will be too small.

michaelbaubles · 14/02/2019 13:08

But a 32B has a smaller cup than a 30B. So it will be too small.

mistermagpie · 14/02/2019 13:11

Does it?! I thought the bigger the strap, the bigger the cup? You really wouldn't have thought I'd been wearing bras for 25 years would you, I know nothing!

KatharinaRosalie · 14/02/2019 13:14

No 30B is smaller. Yes if 32B is too small then 30B won't fit either - as said, not an exactl science. Was the 33 a leaning measurement?
If you put the 32 on backwards, so hooks under boobs, is it too tight?

michaelbaubles · 14/02/2019 13:16

Sorry, I got myself confused!

dementedpixie · 14/02/2019 13:27

32B has a bigger cup than 30B. Maybe try 30C as that would be the same cup volume as 32B.

dementedpixie · 14/02/2019 13:31

mistermagpie in what way is 34B too big? Band or cup? Equivalent cup sizes to 34B (on different bands) are 32C or 30D

Onetwopyjamacrews · 14/02/2019 13:46

Have never understood this!! I’m currently wearing a 36E but have back fat rolls and boob spillage! I’ve tried 36F and 38DD?

dementedpixie · 14/02/2019 13:58

Did you still get boob spillage with 36F? Maybe need to try a bigger cup. The central gore should sit flat between your breasts when the cup is large enough

AllGoodDogs · 14/02/2019 14:06

Didn't work for me. Spat out a size 28H which I could barely do up, and had room for at least another breast in each cup.

KatharinaRosalie · 14/02/2019 14:44

If you get proper boob spillage, the cup is at least 2 sizes too small. If you get a bit of four-boob effect when breathing in, then it's at least a cup.
