Boob or bust, this can’t be right!

I just measured myself using the boob or bust measurements and the recommended bra size is 34JJ!!!

I’m going to redo it when I get a chance as I’m pretty sure this isn’t right 😂

How has this method worked for you?

It doesn't work at all for me. I've always worn a 36A which fits perfectly - no spillage, cups full but not overly so, no riding up, no red line.

According to BoB I should be in a 32C or even a 30D. I've tried many shops but never found a 32 that will meet around me. A 34B isn't a bad compromise, on the loosest fastening, but 36A is generally perfect.

Yet, apparently, as I generally wear a 10 or even 8 dress size, I can't be a 36A. And now I read "... true A cup means you are totally flat and don't have even an inch of difference between under and overbust measurements." Well, I'm walking, talking proof that that simply isn't the case. Unless the A cup from a huge range of suppliers isn't 'true'.

I think it's best to use measuring systems as a guide and then spend plenty of time trying on a whole range of different sizes until you find one that really fits.

I'm a 36 back at size 20/22 so i can't see how you can be a 36 at a fraction of my size/weight. An A cup equates to 1 inch difference between over and under bust measurements

RyvitaBrevis · 14/02/2019 15:48

@amicissimma A 36A in M&S has quite a lot of cup room, I agree! I have a love-hate relationship with M&S and whenever I finally find a bra there that fits, they discontinue it and re-jig all of the sizing again.

According to BoB I should be in a 32C or even a 30D. I've tried many shops but never found a 32 that will meet around me.

But it only goes by the measurements you took of yourself - so you've measured yourself underbust at 30 or 32, then that's the length of a 30 or 32 bra band. That's just how it works. So If you measure at 32 inches, how can no 32 inch bras fit? Unless you think they should be able to do up without stretching at all.

ALongHardWinter · 14/02/2019 15:59

I measured myself recently using the 'subtract the measurement under your bust from the measurement over your bust to find your cup size' method. Apparently,I am a 46G! I have worn a 46D with no problems for years, but I tried a 46G just out of curiosity. The cups were way too big, loads of empty material at the end!

SoupDragon · 14/02/2019 16:24

If you measure at 32 inches, how can no 32 inch bras fit?

I measured at a 32 and they were completely unwearable. I think it's because the BoB method tells you to pull the tape measure as tight as you can doesn't it? 34 was right - snug but not too tight.

Callistone · 14/02/2019 16:32

Sounds about right. I used to be in 32Ds, got measured, I'm a 28FF. Fit like a dream. Sounds like a ludicrous size but actually most people wear a back that is far too big, and then the cup size needs to get larger as the back gets smaller.

mistermagpie · 14/02/2019 16:46

demented 34b is too big in both probably, the back strap rides up and I have to tighten the shoulder straps loads to get any support.

Despite my measurements, I'm very slim but I'm quite broad shouldered and a bit like an upside down triangle in shape. My boobs are tiny though, but saggy (two kids...) and do need support.

dementedpixie · 14/02/2019 16:59

If the back rides up then it is too big. I would try a 30 back with maybe a C cup.

PeterPiperPickedWrong · 14/02/2019 17:12

There was a recent thread about bras and measuring. Boob or bust insisted I was a 30 F or FF.
I wear 36 A.
the boob or bust supporters insisted there was little difference between 36 A and 30 F so I bought the size suggested. They were wrong Grin

dementedpixie · 14/02/2019 17:14

36A = 34B = 32C = 30D with regards to sane cup volume. In what way did the 30F not fit?

Bluelonerose · 14/02/2019 19:53

Ok I measured I'm 32 under bust and 38 with my spaniel ears dangling down.
This means I would be a 32e Shock

That can't be right surely going from 36a to 32e? I've always brought padded bras as I've got nothing to fill it with.
Even at school I was teased for my flat chest so to find out im not an a would be amazing.

KatharinaRosalie · 14/02/2019 20:01

Sorry, true, A cup is 1 inch difference, I was thinking of AA.
But if you measure say 30 inches, most size 30 bras will fit around you. Really. If they fit backwards but not the right way, then the cup is too small, not the band.

Oh and yes, of course you need to stretch the band for it to fit. Otherwise it will just stretch further and give you no support.

michaelbaubles · 14/02/2019 21:24

I’m flat chested as hell and like I said measure as a 28D. I can easily go without a bra so i really am small-chested! The letters mean nothing much.

WobbleTime · 14/02/2019 21:34

I was wearing a 36 or 38(!) DD or E size and decided my boobs looked awful so measured with the Boob or bust thing recently. It told me I was a 30H!!!! Ridiculous.
Except it’s not ridiculous it’s actually correct - I went to Braviasimo and said isn’t this ridiculous blah blah and they gave me some (30H’s just to try) and they fit and my boobs look amazing.
Quite tight around my rib cage to start with but that’s because I was used to massively too big bras. Anyway my boobs are no longer saggy and I look about half a stone lighter and a lot perkier with my new bra on.

(Oh and I didn’t know H was even a size. It is). So JJ is just a bit bigger and mine really aren’t massive at all!
Boobs are weird. Is all I can say about it
