Manchester to London

If i were to book at exactly the best time, what should i expect to pay for 2 adults and 2 kids to go on the train from Manchester to London? We don't have a travel card, and can get one if necessary, but it's a one off.

I should point out, this is the day before Wimbledon starts (30th June). Should this affect the pricing?

Being from NI, we have a set price for public transport, as rubbish as it is, so this whole ridiclous pricing thing is totally alien to me. Confused

£40.80 if you have a family and friends railcard for a one way journey

Soberfutures · 11/02/2019 18:18

So far doing a quick search on virgin the company that do the route here is showing non avaliable to go on the 30th the Sunday.

May be no advanced tickets?

Manchester to London
CherieBabySpliffUp · 11/02/2019 18:19

£72 without a railcard.

LoniceraJaponica · 11/02/2019 18:21

You would recoup the cost of a Family and Friends railcard on just one return journey to London.

Soberfutures · 11/02/2019 18:22

Or on the training site singles are over 200£
The only other site to look at is national rail. When ru wanting to return?

Soberfutures · 11/02/2019 18:23

Here is from the train line.

Manchester to London
NeverTalksToStrangers · 11/02/2019 18:23

Thanks!
It was coming up as over £250 on the train line, but I think a lot of this was due to the tickets not being on sale yet on virgin.

So, when is the best time to book?

Cheap tickets aren't released until 3 months before the date of travel, also weekend services are often affected by engineering works.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 11/02/2019 18:25

I don't want to return. Flying out of London.

Soberfutures · 11/02/2019 18:26

I'd expect to pay 70ish with a rail card, my eldest is at uni in London I've got the train from Manchester a few times just me and 2dcs and usually pay £40-£70 for a return for the 3 of us

CherieBabySpliffUp · 11/02/2019 18:38

I was basing my prices on booking 12 weeks in advance of the journey @soberfutures

Soberfutures · 11/02/2019 18:46

@CherieBabySpliffUp I see. Makes sense. Tho I think virgin will hike prices due to Wimbledon.

If you flying out of London why not get a flight down? May actually be cheaper and depending on where u flying out of in London it will be more than just your tickets to Euston. @NeverTalksToStrangers

RandomMess · 11/02/2019 18:46

You can usually get adult one way ticket for £30 advanced once they are realised DC are half price. Friends and family railcard worth getting I should think.

If you have Tesco clubcard points they are £10!

RandomMess · 11/02/2019 18:47

Actually I never see super cheap tickets at the weekend Angry

Soberfutures · 11/02/2019 18:48

Manchester to Heathrow from 57£

Soberfutures · 11/02/2019 18:48

Sorry forgot pick

NeverTalksToStrangers · 11/02/2019 19:10

I have loads of Tesco points! And very little to spend them on anymore Angry.
We're staying a week in London (NI schools finish at the end of June) so had planned to use them then (so won't be flying out immediately), but even all the restaurants are a bit samey and the days out seem to be cheaper to buy in bulk?

OP posts:
RandomMess · 11/02/2019 19:15

Order the railcard now as it's been flagged up that Tesco will stop doing it very soon!!

NeverTalksToStrangers · 11/02/2019 19:18

Whilst browsing on Tesco there now I came across Megabus... would a 5.5hr journey on a coach would be hell on earth? Grin
