If i were to book at exactly the best time, what should i expect to pay for 2 adults and 2 kids to go on the train from Manchester to London? We don't have a travel card, and can get one if necessary, but it's a one off.

I should point out, this is the day before Wimbledon starts (30th June). Should this affect the pricing?

Being from NI, we have a set price for public transport, as rubbish as it is, so this whole ridiclous pricing thing is totally alien to me. Confused

With regards to the bus, it depends what time of day you travel. I've done bus to and from London many times. Sometimes it's a nightmare, other times it's fine. In my experience, the overnight ones are often better because the majority of people are just trying to sleep.

Definitely worth getting a railcard, it pays for itself in one trip, I’ve jst checked the virgin website and with a railcard it’s £150, without its £265. I think nearer the time the prices will reduce but I’d keep checking regularly to see as soon as it’s goes down, I think it’s normallh around 12 weeks in advance.
