Is there anything from another part of the UK that you wish that your area had?

It doesn't have to be food. It can be anything. What do you wish existed in your area?

I'm not that big a fan of roast dinners, I enjoy them just a few times of year but I wish that my area had the roast shops(I don't know what they're officially called) that they have in Yorkshire. I'd love to be able to get a turkey or roast pork roll with apple sauce or even better a bag of hot crackling pieces.

I'd also rather like to have a good fudge shop here.

And more second hand and new book shops. When I go to certain parts of England there are so many compared with her. Edinburgh and Wigtown aside. I love charity shops but it isn't quite the same.

They're just sandwich shops which sell a hot roast pork or chicken.
I would like a lake or bit of a beach.

SoSaidTheHorse · 10/02/2019 19:29

I've been in some that only sell roast dinners or roast filled rolls though. We don't have anything like that here that I know of.

I'll have to add Manchester Tart to my list. I should really try making one.

Lido or swimming ponds like they have in London, would love to be able to get up and go for an outdoor swim, my nearest is 15miles away at a leisure center and is only open may- September.

Hills, the National Theatre, Proper public transport, a North London Turkish grocery. Oh, and coast.

YeOldeTrout · 10/02/2019 19:34

A Greens MP in neighbouring constituency would do nicely. :)

bellinibobble · 10/02/2019 19:34

A beach 🏖

Bookridden · 10/02/2019 19:35

Cooler weather in the summer.

Katterinaballerina · 10/02/2019 19:35

I’m with Parthenope on the sea.

4point2fleet · 10/02/2019 19:35

I wish there was somewhere like Bluewater or the Trafford Centre about 45 minutes away. You can't get to anywhere like that from the West country.

And no, Trago Mills does not make up for it before anyone pipes up.

I second theatre. I live just miles from a major UK city but although we have a few theatres and there's always something going on, if I want to see the mega musicals e.g Phantom, Lion King and Les Mis I have to go through to our rival city because the stages here aren't quite big enough

Seaside.

Doilooklikeatourist · 10/02/2019 19:37

Decent WiFi
Public transport
Choice of cinema
Ikea
John Lewis

Longer daylight in winter, and warmer weather! And more English people, so I have some to celebrate with when England win a football match. Up here, they all support whoever England is playing against.
Yorkshire pork pies and ham, real Cornish pasties. Union Jack flags on buildings. English pubs. English village greens. Morris dancers. Red buses.
Gosh, that was a nostalgia fest! I haven’t lived in England for over 40 years, but I do miss it. Both kids live and work in Scotland though, so I’m here for the duration.

Biscuitsneeded · 10/02/2019 19:40

I love where I live. It's a great city, very green, attractive, small enough to really get to know yet big enough to have lots going on and an international mindset, university etc. But MAN I miss hills. And a bit of seaside would be lovely too.

MeteorShower · 10/02/2019 19:41

Public transport

FortyFacedFuckers · 10/02/2019 19:41

The weather you get in the south of England! Living in Scotland

Katterinaballerina · 10/02/2019 19:44

Also a really good farm shop. I used to live near one and after many trips to poor, overpriced, unimpressive ones it was awesome to have it nearby. It has a great cafe that does fry ups, cake and coffee, sandwiches and stuff, a butchers counter where they are really helpful and fresh veg that was in a field earlier in the day! The meat is from the farm and you can buy it as a beef roasting joint, roasted and sliced at the deli bit or in a roll at the cafe to eat while you read the newspapers they provide for free. The prices were incredibly reasonable and if you asked they’d give you a bone for your dog (as they butchered onsite.)

I’m off to look at RightMove ...

NeverTalksToStrangers · 10/02/2019 19:46

(As parthenope mentioned) public transport is terrible in NI
Better weather (in the south)
The West end
Big theme parks
Aldi

But, I definitely don't envy english sausages (haven't had any experience of Scottish/Welsh) and we have a much superior education system.

HamiltonCork · 10/02/2019 19:46

Yeah - I’m also jealous of the south of England’s weather.

SoSaidTheHorse · 10/02/2019 19:48

Adding to my list. Markets. There are so few markets here.

Nice villages. I live in an area with a lot of tiny villages and it's a nice area but there's nothing in them, perhaps one shop or deli every few villages, but that's it. I feel that England does villages so much better. They're more attractive and often have some wonderful shops. Of course I'm sure there are many that have nothing to offer and are run down but overall I think that villages are nicer down South. (Exceptions apply. I love Braemar for example)

Mountains!

I live in Sussex so we've got the glorious South Downs, the sea and reasonable weather but if I could just have some mountains please, I'd be very happy.

Cameron2012 · 10/02/2019 19:51

A theatre

Thedogisdrivingmemad · 10/02/2019 19:51

Booths.

heartshapedknob · 10/02/2019 19:51

A beach. A proper sandy one.

Laniakea · 10/02/2019 19:52

The sea.
