What are your favourite and least favourite months of the year ?

My favourite is April. Spring is properly established (Beasts from the East notwithstanding), the days are noticeably longer and brighter, daffodils and tree blossom abound, it's often when Easter falls and there's the promise of May and June to come.

Conversely, November is just miserable. Increasingly darker days, chilly, bare trees, the smell of decay from rotting leaves and flowers, mud. Yuck. Nothing good about November at all.

Obviously, folk in the southern hemisphere may disagree !

February, I like because it's the first month you see the days getting longer and the promise of spring is on its way.
January is the worst because of the previous months over indulgence and Feb seems too long away.
June is lovely because the days are at their longest.
I do love autumn too though.

I struggle to find a favourite.
am a pagan, so many festivals thoughout the year.
I have just celebrated Imbolc, ( sometimes known as Candlemas or Groundhog day)
I love the peace and dark of January, I love the heat of summer, Autumn is amazing- Halloween and colours of the trees. Spring delights me with the vibrant new growth and I am in love with Christmas an Yule celebrations.
Every month has its delights.
If pushed I would plump for October- I adore the crackling excitement of Halloween, toffee apples, cider, the darkening days and the approach of Christmas.

Now I'm in Melbourne, July and August are not much fun. Cold, and often dry, so the gardens and reservoirs suffer from the latter.

However, the autumn here is lovely; warm days and cool nights from mid-February to May. The most consistent season.😎🍁

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/02/2019 09:37

The only month I dread is January - so dreary after the Christmas lights are gone - but it always seems to zoom by.
There are already plenty of crocuses out around here, so that's a reason to like February. Often the first daffodils, too.
I even quite like November. It goes back to the childhood excitement of Bonfire Night and the run up to Christmas - but I still love Christmas, and Bonfire Night, too.
May is always beautiful - all the blossom and the lovely fresh new greens - shame the weather so often thinks it's still March!

speakout · 09/02/2019 09:41

I love January.

The peace, quiet, the stillness, simple food, simple living, a great time for self nurture.
The only thorn is having to do my tax return.

Hammondisback · 09/02/2019 09:57

Dislike January, love April, July and August - I’m a teacher, so obvious reasons there! Smile

Lifegoeson600 · 09/02/2019 10:06

April is my favourite the days are longer and the weather tends to be not too hot and not too cold January is my least it's cold and dark and Christmas is over

LookMoreCloselier · 09/02/2019 12:07

Dislike January, long, cold, nothing doing. I like spring and autumn, not too hot, not too cold and both pretty with the change in seasons. Summer is nice except the hayfever and wasps.

I prefer Autumn and Winter to spring and summer. I love the winter countryside. I love the winter light. I always find the transition from winter to spring adversely affects my mood: I don't look forward to spring or summer. I enjoy the dark nights and being cosy in my house and closing the curtains and shutting the world our. I don't like the light nights at all.

Littlepond · 09/02/2019 12:13

September is the worst month. Back to work, kids back to school, our lovely carefree lives are over.
December is the best month because I love Christmas. August is second best month because of lovely carefree life. January second worst month because it’s cold and Christmas is over.
I know you didn’t ask but here is my definitive list of months from best to worst: December, August, July, May, October, June, April, March, November, February, January, September.

TurquoiseWeekend · 09/02/2019 12:17

I love December. I love the cosy dark nights, the twinkly lights, the excuse of Christmas to eat ALL the food, the excitement and the films and tv.
I hate summer when it's anything above about 16 degrees 😂 so July and August usually. I'm not built for hot weather, I'm pale, ginger, burn just by stepping out of my front door, get raging hayfever and sweat very easily 😂

AhhhHereItGoes · 09/02/2019 12:27

I like July and August.

Not too keen on October and November other than Halloween.

IndigoSpritz · 09/02/2019 12:36

Looks like there is a month for us all.

I love September, my favourite month of the year by far. Season of mists and mellow friutfulness innit. January doesn't have a lot going for it, poor old January.

Teateaandmoretea · 09/02/2019 13:29

May is the best, it's lovely and light, all the blossom and grass explode all green. February the worst, like some joke extension of January where you expect it to be better but it isn't.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 09/02/2019 13:35

February is a shocker. It's basically like an evil sequel of January, except January is totally upfront about its grimness, so I'm ready for it. February is a sneaky fucker.

October is the best. Beautiful autumn colours, still good amounts of daylight, and still slightly mild, but just cool enough to wear the jumpers and boots that suit me, and to feel that crumble and custard is less a luxury and more a necessity.

morningconstitutional2017 · 09/02/2019 14:16

I love May - it's generally warm but not too hot and my garden is often at its best.

I find February gloomy, dark and cold.

Theunreasonableone · 09/02/2019 14:19

Love October, November, December
Like May and June
Dislike July and August
Hate January and February

Everything else I’m ok about.

PennyandVince · 09/02/2019 15:36

I love early Spring when the sun shines but before the insects are bothersome. Usually when the birds are chirruping and the flowers are out the promise of all positive new life.

Do not like the first week of September - always a noticeable cold snap that is the definite end of the warm spell and a note that the heating wil be on soon. However, our family birthdays are over Winter and I do like the festive feel run up to Christmas.

I am 50:50 on January because my birthday's in it but it is a cold 5 week month when everyone's too broke post Christmas to do anything or they have the flu! At least this is what they tell me..Grin

WindsfromtheNE · 09/02/2019 15:40

I love September. It's a soft month if anyone understands what I mean.

Sierra259 · 09/02/2019 15:40

Favourite is May - summer just around the corner, beautiful tree blossom and flowers, longer days. December a close second as I love Christmas and all the build up.

Least favourite is January - shit weather, no money, dark mornings and evenings, more difficult to entertain the kids in said shit weather.

Sierra259 · 09/02/2019 15:43

Ooh, I like the best to worst month idea! Mine is May, December, June, July, September, August, October, April, November, March, February, January.

OhTheRoses · 09/02/2019 16:04

Well so far I have snowdrops and crocuses. The helebore, winter pansies, cyclamen, and daphne have been goung strong all winter. Daffs, tulips and hyacinths are bursting through aling with the bastard bluebells. Crocosimia are spouting, camellias and rhododendrons are budding. Magnolias further along and praying there isn't a hard frost as they open.

Every month brings joy; in my garden there is most perhaps in Aoril when the orchard is in full blossom.

HappydaysArehere · 09/02/2019 16:07

Do not care for Autumn'. Can’t stand the endless leaves falling.
