What are your favourite and least favourite months of the year ?

My favourite is April. Spring is properly established (Beasts from the East notwithstanding), the days are noticeably longer and brighter, daffodils and tree blossom abound, it's often when Easter falls and there's the promise of May and June to come.

Conversely, November is just miserable. Increasingly darker days, chilly, bare trees, the smell of decay from rotting leaves and flowers, mud. Yuck. Nothing good about November at all.

Obviously, folk in the southern hemisphere may disagree !

I love May, September and December. I like transitional months - the start of spring, the start of autumn, back to school feeling - and Christmas. Worst is February. Just long and miserable.

Dowser · 08/02/2019 14:01

July the best
Hate, hate February...my birthday month
Even knowing I’m going to Tenerife at end of it isn’t helping much

AnotherPidgey · 08/02/2019 14:02

Worst: January & November. December is at least jazzed up by Christmas lights.
They weren't too bad this year though as we had daylight most days, not relentless days and weeks of perma-gloom.

Best: April & May, the days have stretched out and spring is in its full glory. The children are less likely to be ill!

September has that fresh start vibe and autumn can be stunningly beautiful. A good October can be a joy.

August feels a bit stuck and stagnant. The best of the summer has passed and it feels tired and in limbo.

thatsmyspace · 08/02/2019 14:05

Hate November love April

Lottapianos · 08/02/2019 14:08

'I loathe December I'm afraid. I find the dark nights really depress me, as does the whole ramping up to Christmas thing'

I feel exactly the same! I look forward to January because even though it's dark and cold , at least bloody Christmas is over!

I will go with April for my favourite- clocks have changed so light evenings, Spring in the air and maybe Easter so double weekend and lots of chocolate

SenecaFalls · 08/02/2019 14:08

I live in Florida. Favorite months are any that are not summer. Least favorite are the summer ones.

elQuintoConyo · 08/02/2019 14:08

I love December because we don't go overboard from Wintershoppingmas,

I hate July cos it's too fucking hot.

I like August even though it"s still too fucking hot, i'm on holiday and we can pack in as many naps as we like and eat dinner outside at 10pm.

March bores the tits off me, it's neither here nor there.

I like September because we can swim in the still-warm sea when the DC are at school and the beach is empty Grin

DandilionBreak · 08/02/2019 14:21

Lottapianos I really look forward to January and February. We notice the days stretching out as the months go on (central Scotland), and I really do feel that difference in my heart. My spirits lift significantly as well, when the festive period is over. There's something about the enforced jollity that really saddens me.

Lottapianos · 08/02/2019 14:48

'There's something about the enforced jollity that really saddens me.'

Same here. I find it stressful and depressing

DandilionBreak · 08/02/2019 14:55

Late April and into May though, with the cherries blossoming, fresh green leaves on the trees and all the bird song...that feels wonderful! The first cuckoo and feeling the sun's warmth properly, with a cat luxuriating beside me on the garden bench - lovely.

Drogosnextwife · 08/02/2019 14:58

I love December and june/July because that's not at time. I bloody hate January and February also August because the kids go back to school.

Drogosnextwife · 08/02/2019 15:24

Not at time = holiday time

Crunchymum · 08/02/2019 16:10

I think all the months have their positives. Not madly keen in January though (although DC2 and DC3 have birthdays this month) and I'm not mad on extreme heat and get very, very fatigue of the kids in the summer holidays, so that means I don't love July / August.

Binpedal · 08/02/2019 16:14

February is the worst. A nothing month unless you have a birthday!
Favourite is March or April

LaurieFairyCake · 08/02/2019 16:19

January's been great - passed really quickly
Love October, November, December, April, May

Hate July/August because of the heat

DrCoconut · 08/02/2019 16:25

June and early July tend to bring good weather so I like them. Last year was great after several dismal summers so I'm hoping for a repeat. Autumn and winter are depressing with disappearing light levels and stuck in the house for hours due to the dark and rain. Worst is probably January. Scraping ice off the car in the dark the last few weeks has sucked. And the bugs. Everyone constantly ill. The better weather brings respite from that too.

ALongHardWinter · 08/02/2019 16:38

I don't like April or May,because it means that summer is on it's way. I don't like June,July or August if they're hot. I love September and October, because I love autumn, plus it means winter is on it's way. I much prefer cold weather to hot.

Delatron · 08/02/2019 17:00

I love May because it’s normally starting to warm up, evenings and mornings are light and you have a bit of hope still that we may have a nice summer.

If we have a nice June/July then they are lovely but I get frustrated if the weather is bad as it means we’re running out of summer time.

Hate February. January goes on forever but I like the calm after crazy Christmas. February is nothing, you can’t even get hopeful about Spring as often March can be very cold. I’m bored of all my winter coats and boots too.

Mmmmdanone · 08/02/2019 17:27

Hate January! Nothing to look forward to that's reasonably close. Love June/July.

Chosennone · 08/02/2019 17:32

I love Summer and I love Christmas so December, July and August are the best. Spring can be lovely so I also like April and May. January is bleak for me, post xmas blues etc

NameChangeNugget · 08/02/2019 17:50

June, July & August are all great.

January is my least favourite

viccat · 08/02/2019 17:56

I like April/May and September/October the most - the weather is usually mild and I love seeing the seasons change whether it's from darker to lighter/colder to warmer or vice versa.

January always makes me feel anxious. It's dark, cold, rainy and everything good feels far away... Plus the horrible struggle of getting back into work mode after spending half of December under a blanket eating chocolate, considering party food an acceptable dinner and watching too much TV.

beanaseireann · 08/02/2019 18:09

May June and July are the best.
I don't like October, November, January or February.

Thumbcat · 08/02/2019 18:23

I love December. I also really like May: the weather if often good (was scorching last year), half term holiday to spend a bit of time with DC (but only a week so not long enough to get frazzled), light evenings and still the prospect of summer to look forward to.

I could do without February and March. Dreary, nothing months standing between me and Spring.

origamiunicorn · 08/02/2019 18:28

Oooh

Faves are; October (love Autumn, the colours, the wrapping up etc.), December (or month of Christmas as I call it) May (for the Spring blossoms)

Least faves: August (it used to be the hottest month when I was a child I'm sure of it but now it's all promise and non stop rain) January (cos well, Christmas is over, it's cold and I'm usually poor)
