Instant Pot - Buyers Remorse

LadyFlumpalot · 07/02/2019 19:34

I've been lusting after an Instant a Pot for months now, just had a look on Amazon and as they are on sale I caved and bought one. It's still A Lot Of Money for something though and now I'm worried I'll never use it and it'll be one of those things that gathers dust in the corner of my kitchen.

Please can all you lovely people regale me with reassuring tales of Instagram/Pinterest worthy kitchens and cooking now that an Instant Pot has arrived in your lives to help persuade DH me that I've not just spaced away £100?

Thanks!

You'll never do mashed potato any other way Grin

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 07/02/2019 19:37

I use mine every single day. I do cook a lot but for me, it's great. The FB group is huge with lots of ideas, tho I had to leave because of the cheesecake recipes & the infighting.

I'm sure you'd flog it in an instant if you don't use it too.

Mine is making me some yogurt as I post.

Got one for Christmas, I’m not a gadget person, but I love mine, seriously almost daily use. It’s the put on and forget I love. Example, cut two leaks, cut 2/3 potatoes I don’t even peel them mix stock cube in pint or so water put on high pressure 6 mins, leave walk dogs whatever, it then just stays warm, come in take off lid mash contents with masher, voila soup

Knittedfairies · 07/02/2019 19:42

I've had mine a few months; my husband says it's paid for itself by making great risotto.

Therewere5inthebed · 07/02/2019 19:44

Love mine, it’s amazing for curries, super fast stews, lamb shanks and I made a wonderful rare roast beef in 25 mins at the weekend.

I bought another seal so that I could make desserts in it without the curry taste coming through, you get amazing rice puddings in 10 mins.

You won’t regret it..

Stinkytoe · 07/02/2019 19:44

I’ve just bought one too OP

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/02/2019 19:45

£100! Bloody hell thats a lot! I got mine a lot cheaper when there was a special offer. I love it dearly though.

LadyFlumpalot · 07/02/2019 19:46

I've just found an amazing sounding recipe for butter chicken with a four minute cooking time.

I don't know what's come over me, I hate cooking but I can't wait to have a go a go at this!

Thank you all, you are proper helping!

Rice comes out surprisingly well. I’m old school when it comes to steaming rice but was pleasantly surprised (cooking brown).

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 07/02/2019 19:48

i use mine so much, used to use my slow cooker lots and this is a BRILLIANT option, I often pressure cook something and then let it finish for the rest of the afternoon on slow cook, I got rid of my SC and the steamer and just use the IP for all of it.

it's brilliant for rice, rice is my nemesis, but it always does beautifully in the IP, mash is super as you only need a cup of water, and the potatoes do not get waterlogged and yicky

the instant pot UK group is very good...all very civilised, I don't know which group whatdoyouknow was in but the Instant Pot UK Community one is not like that

Risotto is a winner, no steaming up the kitchen, no stirring
Biryanis..loads of inspiration about for those
Puddings....lot of options from teeny steamed individual sticky toffee puddings, through to giant sponge puds, to cheescakes, egg cu
stards

you will love it!

OvO · 07/02/2019 19:49

Love mine.

Don’t use it all the time like some folk but often enough that’s its not been a waste of money. I use it often enough to wish I had space for it out on the worktop so I didn’t have to keep lugging it out the cupboard.

I’ve found the best thing is to keep using your normal recipes and just look up similar instant pot recipes to give you an idea of how much liquid to use and how long to cook it for. Of course there’s lots of good recipes out there to try too.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/02/2019 19:51

Makes nice soup too. I’d forgotten about the risotto (but it can stick to the bottom).

Just don’t forget the water content of some foods (like courgette) and don’t add as much water to things like Dahl or they will be quite watery when cooked. I love the ‘keep warm’ setting.

LadyFlumpalot · 07/02/2019 19:51

@RogueV - link to the Instant Pot or the Butter Chicken recipe?

Butter Chicken

Don't seem to be able to link from the Amazon app, but I just searched Instant Pot.

Myusernameismud · 07/02/2019 19:52

Hmmm following this with interest, because I want one and need reasons to justify buying it obvs.

LadyFlumpalot · 07/02/2019 19:53

Is it ok to cook chicken from frozen in it? Google gives me conflicting answers.

OP posts:
OvO · 07/02/2019 19:54

Yes, you can use any frozen meat or frozen veg etc in it.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/02/2019 19:54

I got a pressure king pro - every so and often the have them on silly offers on amazon (sometimes it’s just on one colour).

RogueV · 07/02/2019 19:59

That butter chicken looks a bit pale.

Need more info on this instant pot. Is it like a slow cooker?

LadyFlumpalot · 07/02/2019 20:02

It's a pressure cooker that also functions as a slow cooker, or so I understand.

OP posts:
Spongeface · 07/02/2019 20:06

I got one.... I don't get it. I have really tried but everything turns out slop/stew... It has a minimum line so I think that you have to add that much water to everything. And by the time it reaches pressure I think I could just have done this slop on the hob?!
Hope that yours works out better.

OvO · 07/02/2019 20:07

Noooo, you just need a cup of water! A SMALL cup.

Spongeface · 07/02/2019 20:10

Thank you OvO ! I'll try again.... No wonder I was failing... And the slop was getting to me tbh Grin why is that line there then!? Strange.
