Instant Pot - Buyers Remorse

I've been lusting after an Instant a Pot for months now, just had a look on Amazon and as they are on sale I caved and bought one. It's still A Lot Of Money for something though and now I'm worried I'll never use it and it'll be one of those things that gathers dust in the corner of my kitchen.

Please can all you lovely people regale me with reassuring tales of Instagram/Pinterest worthy kitchens and cooking now that an Instant Pot has arrived in your lives to help persuade DH me that I've not just spaced away £100?

Thanks!

Pressure King Pro here. Did Hairy Bikers lamb hotpot the other day in less than half an hour rather than hour and 3/4. Also lamb shanks and chicken casserole success loosely based on the recipe booklet.

A couple of questions

  • is it possible to get a brown top to dishes like hotpot and dumplings or are they inevitably soft?
  • can you put inner pot in dw? ( as can my slow cooker)
  • can you avoid getting ingrained smells in the pot like onion , if not how do you do sweet and savoury in same one?

Hoping to do pork belly later , any recipe suggestions?

You can put inner in DW.

You can swap seals, one for savoury one for sweet. I haven't needed to yet, the smell doesn't affect the taste, IYSWIM.

The top doesn't brown, people give things a blast under the grill. You can use it like a slow cooker, with a towel under the lid, but I don't know how effective that is.

I'm so jealous. I'm in Australia and Instant Pot isn't available here Sad. I like the stainless steal and the functions which makes it incredibly versatile. The other multi task pressure cookers are non stick Teflon and none of them could be used to make yoghurt. My rice cooker's non stick coating has become worn so rice sticks and I wonder if Teflon leaks chemicals into the food. I prefer stainless steel as its longer lasting and I think safer. You guys are so lucky. I hope they become available in Australia one day but I think it's unlikely. So many excellent products available in the UK and or USA that are on my wish list but they never become available or don't deliver to us because we are so far away.

@Oceanbliss - next time someone comes to visit you, get them to bring you one!! 😁

Ocean you can probably buy something very similar in Australia. I have a Cosori but there are several other brands on amazon and they all look much the same.

Mistigri · 16/02/2019 17:32

The Cosori makes yoghurt and the bowl is uncoated btw. It would be surprising if the Chinese brands weren't selling these things in a geographically close market like Australia when they are readily available in Europe.

Mistigri thx I'm checking out the Cosori now. Looks promising Smile

HarrySnotter I don't have any family or friends who live overseas. I wish I did tho.
