DP & I have just been reminiscing about 1/2p sweets & sweets in the 70s in general.
Favourites were :
Black Jacks
Rosy apples
Fruit Salads

Bars of highland toffee that you had to break into pieces

@AnotherDrearyDayInParadise yes! My sister and I used to shrink the crisp packets in the oven!

ItsInTheSpoon · 08/02/2019 19:39

@HanknPat @Fifthtimelucky you can still buy pez sweets in dispensers - I think I’ve seen them in primark but definitely in a couple of places

@Ifonlyiwereraller I was the same about dib dabs!

PlumCakeChica · 08/02/2019 19:40

Black midget gems - unpopular flavour at school so that worked out well for me!

Sweet tobacco - made of coconut I remember, was yummy. Also remember the sweet cigarettes?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/02/2019 19:50

Not sweets but I used to love that chocolate source that used to go hard when you put it on ice cream.

shumm · 08/02/2019 20:41

ice magic!

PhilomenaButterfly · 08/02/2019 20:46

I used to go and buy my DGM 20 Bensons from the station shop round the corner, and was allowed to buy half p chews with the change. Shock Rhubarb and custard were the best. Black jacks were minging.

PhilomenaButterfly · 08/02/2019 20:48

Why do pear drops make me cough? Confused

Fifthtimelucky · 08/02/2019 20:59

@ItsInTheSpoon thanks! I don't eat sweets any more, so won't be reliving my youth with Pez. Chocolate is another matter, of course. I eat far too much of that!

GlitterStick · 08/02/2019 22:04

I loved

Flying saucers
Foam bananas
sherbert lemons
Kola Kubes
wham! bars
sherbert dib dabs
pear drops

In the yukky pile go chocolate limes and parma violets Sad blee

GlitterStick · 08/02/2019 22:06

@ItsInTheSpoon
And I have only just discovered after 50 odd years that the sweet I called sherbert DIB Dab is actually DIP Dab!

Shock

As you can see from my post upthread, I totally thought the same until 2 seconds ago on reading this!
Everyday's a school day on here lol

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2019 22:11

chocolate limes
cola cubes
sherbert lemons.
They all made your mouth sore though.
I still eat jelly babies.

onlyhereforthefood · 08/02/2019 22:16

I really miss fuse bars

I still regularly eat Pez

I miss 10p mix-ups that used contain what seemed like unlimited qty of sweets!

Toomuchgoingon · 08/02/2019 22:42

Glad to see someone else mentioned Quirks. Best thing ever and no one else remembers them.

Galaxy truffle bars
Spangles
Pacers

jigsawmaniac · 08/02/2019 22:57

Pacers here too. I remember them being plain white and then having green stripes added. No one else seems to remember but Wikipedia informs me my memory is correct! Also Gambit chocolate bars. Mix of plain and milk chocolate. Long gone. Also liked Spyras though they were a bit later and also discontinued I think!

KittensAndCake · 09/02/2019 14:42

No way!! 😱 No, they were always sherbet dib dabs. Another example of the Mandela effect???🤔

Ifonlyiweretaller · 09/02/2019 16:36

@jigsawmaniac - I even remember when they added the stripes to Pacers! Almaost like a toothpaste adverty "Stripes? doo doo doo " (three notes on a scale). I still say it now on occasion Grin

jigsawmaniac · 09/02/2019 17:20

@Ifonlyiweretaller I don't remember the toothpaste unfortunately! I remember blue and white striped sweets from the ice cream van too called Argentinas. No idea if they're still around.

labazsisgoingmad · 09/02/2019 17:37

OrangeLola · 09/02/2019 19:33

Fruit polos
Pink chocolate mice

RustyBear · 09/02/2019 19:54

Proper Refreshers - the fizzy hard sweets, not the chewy imposters

TroysMammy · 09/02/2019 19:59

Flying saucers
White mice
Shrimps
Sherbert
Sherbert pips
Fruit salad - 4 for 1p Grin

SilverySurfer · 09/02/2019 20:36

Black Jacks and Fruit Salads were four for a penny when I was young. Also loved Sherbert Dips and Flying Saucers and we used to have a Wagon Wheel after swimming which were HUGE compared to today's weedy wheels.
