Has anyone managed to wean themselves off tea and toast? What do you have instead?

Because nothing as as good as tea and toast at this time of night

However, it keeps me up at night and I've lost weight since stopping it.

Do you eat dinner? Why would you need toast at this time?

Hollowvictory · 04/02/2019 20:33

I drink decaf tea.

HavelockVetinari · 04/02/2019 20:33

Och, that's a tough one! Tea and a couple of rich tea biscuits?

AlwaysSkintInFebruary · 04/02/2019 20:34

Yes, have dinner around 5.

I was brought up with tea and toast before bed and fell back into the habit when the kids were born.

Also, yes to decaf tea, they make such good ones nowadays you won't notice it's decaf.

HollowTalk · 04/02/2019 20:34

Brush your teeth and you won't fancy anything.

Debruary · 04/02/2019 20:34

Oh thanks, I want tea and toast now Grin

AlwaysSkintInFebruary · 04/02/2019 20:35

Tea and a couple of rich tea biscuits?

See the tea keeps me awake and a couple of biscuits is no good either.

It's sheer greed, not hunger, but I get so munchy at this time.

Could you have dinner a bit later?

sizzledrizz · 04/02/2019 20:36

Save some of your dinner to eat a bit later.
Change to herbal tea, without milk, you might not want toast with it. Eat a chunk of cheese.
Have a cuppa soup instead

VanillaSauce · 04/02/2019 20:37

Green tea with lemon

dudsville · 04/02/2019 20:38

I can't help you, that sounds like a lovely pre bed thing to have!

Desmondo2016 · 04/02/2019 20:38

Tweak your intake the rest of the day to allow for a slice of toast for supper! It's nice to have evening nibbles lol! And decaff everything in this house for 6 years now and I don't notice the difference.

Nothisispatrick · 04/02/2019 20:38

I didn’t know people ate after dinner on a regular basis until I started reading MN! Why do you have dinner so early?!

Nothisispatrick · 04/02/2019 20:39

I actually don’t think I’ve ever eaten dinner at 5, even as a child.

BiscuitDrama · 04/02/2019 20:39

Smaller dinner and just one slice of toast?

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 04/02/2019 20:40

Twinings Decaf is lovely. Have an oatcake with it? They're so boring, you'll eventually only want the tea.

whatswithtodaytoday · 04/02/2019 20:40

I've just eaten dinner, so definitely won't be hungry before bed! Why are you eating at 5, that's ridiculously early.

AlwaysSkintInFebruary · 04/02/2019 20:40

I don't know if I could have dinner later, I'm a terrible creature of habit and also an early riser so bloody starving by mid-afternoon Grin

Does cheese not give you terrible nightmares or is that an urban myth?

OP posts:
Hiphopopotamus · 04/02/2019 20:40

@nothisispatrick you never realised people ate after dinner? Have the whole concepts of snacking and suppers passed you by?

sizzledrizz · 04/02/2019 20:41

I am now eating buttered toast with a large mug of tea. It's heavenly

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 04/02/2019 20:41

Rooibos tea is an acceptable alternative to normal tea - it’s caffeine-free and tastes OK with milk.

Not sure what you’d replace toast with though. Perhaps something like shredded wheat? Full of fibre, so should fill you up.

PurplePepperEater · 04/02/2019 20:42

I’ve not even had my dinner yet - why do you eat at 5? What time do you have breakfast and lunch? My DC don’t even have dinner that early!

Schweetcorn0000 · 04/02/2019 20:42

Tea and toast is a hard habit to break, I have had tea and toast almost all my life late evening. It’s a truely perfect supper.

Puggles123 · 04/02/2019 20:42

PG TIps Decaf tastes exactly the same as the normal one! Could you maybe have a mug of that and then just one slice of toast? Seems a fair compromise Grin
