Has anyone managed to wean themselves off tea and toast? What do you have instead?

Because nothing as as good as tea and toast at this time of night

However, it keeps me up at night and I've lost weight since stopping it.

Haha, @EngagedAgain, I was being a bit of a grammar pedant as opposed to being judgemental towards people who eat after dinner! I would happily eat a slice of buttered toast (or 2 Blush) after my evening meal, I just wouldn’t call it supper! Wink

Each to their own, but the thing I don't get about weetabix with butter etc, aren't they incredibly dry? And after eating you must feel like drinking alot, they soak up so much milk usually.

HappyGoLuckyGo · 05/02/2019 11:12

Yes, thank you, @EngagedAgain
I don’t have Weetabix where I live, but once I’m back in the U.K. in a few weeks I’ll try this monstrosity... Am highly sceptical.

labazsisgoingmad · 05/02/2019 18:04

love weetabix with butter and jam used to have it for a pudding at school years ago that was the start of my addiction

ZootSuit · 05/02/2019 20:20

@CatFaceCats exactly, it fits in with all of us and our school/work day, and seems sensible. Any later on the dinner time then I’d run out of time for bath, drying hair, homework, stories etc!

Dairylea and digestives is a new one, will have to give that a try! Smile

I can’t see what the issue is with eating a main meal at 5ish but it always seems to cause a commotion on Mumsnet. Some people start work very early and/or have very physical jobs so naturally they are hungry earlier in the day.

AlwaysSkintInFebruary · 05/02/2019 20:28

I'd have to have the tub of butter to make Weetabix less cardboard box flavoured!

Wasn’t weetabix with butter and jam one of the serving suggestions which appeared on the boxes in the 1980s? I had no idea that people actually took their advice!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 05/02/2019 20:43

Had my dinner at 7:30.
Just had an orange.
Am about to have a herbal tea.
Then I will brush my teeth.

I do eat toast in the morning though.

XmasPostmanBos · 05/02/2019 21:53

There's no advantage to having a weetabix with butter and jam over a piece of toast surely?

Nearlyoldenoughtowearpurple · 05/02/2019 22:01

You really have to try and slice the weetabix in half though ( like a roll) which is very tricky but worthwhile. It has to be thickly buttered and marmalade not jam, thems the rules

Andtheskyisgrey · 05/02/2019 22:10

Most days, I have breakfast, lunch, and supper. Sometimes I drink tea. I have friends over for dinner. In my mind, supper is a small family only occasion, dinner is a meal with guests.

Fazackerley · 05/02/2019 22:21

yup same

BowBeau · 05/02/2019 22:25

Pretty much anything you substitute will be higher calorie than tea and toast. Unless you’re going to have fruit or salad with water? You’d be better off having the tea without sugar and brown bread with less butter.
