If you could live anywhere in the UK, where would it be?

Having a chat about where we would like to live but we're obviously constrained with practicalities like work and children's school. So conversation led to Ok if I didn't have to worry about work and children's education where would I like to live and I didn't have a clue!
So where would you live within the UK if there were no constraints and why?

Bristol ticks all my boxes.

LoisWilkerson1 · 03/02/2019 23:00

Shetland. With a city pad in York or Edinburgh.

We moved from Bristol a couple of years ago for sensible work purposes and deeply regret it. Loved the city and ticks all the boxes. So either Bristol, Glasgow South side or Edinburgh. With a holiday home in Orkney mainland. Or one of the outer Hebrides.

I really miss Bristol.

Interestingly, I now live on the edge of the Cotswolds, area mentioned earlier, and I feel very, very "meh" about the whole area.

Where I live in a villagey part of SW London I absolutely love it.

RandomMess · 03/02/2019 23:13

I really lovely part of London! Obviously the issue is I'll never have the money...

HarrietSchulenberg · 03/02/2019 23:14

A specific cottage in Dumfries and Galloway that I visited regularly as a child. It was up for sale in 2006 but I didn't find out till 2010. It's now owned by a lawyer, purely for investment purposes, who visits once a year to check his property. I keep hoping he'll go bust and sell it and I search RightMove and Zoopla for it regularly.
In the meantime I'd like to live entirely alone on a windswept island.
I am a miserable git.

If money was no object Chelsea embankment.

PatPhoenix · 03/02/2019 23:18

Central London.

Or Oxford.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 03/02/2019 23:23

Where I am. A lovely town in Devon. Great community spirit, local shops, amazing views of Dartmoor. I grew up in Lancashire, lived in London for 20 years and have been here for three years now and it’s perfect.

BikeRunSki · 03/02/2019 23:27

NW Scotland - I crave isolation and never get it!

elephantoverthehill · 03/02/2019 23:27

I live on IW and my family live in Bristol. I've got it made!

nzborn · 03/02/2019 23:28

Bath but stay away from the polluted streets.

whiteroseredrose · 03/02/2019 23:31

Bristol or Harrogate.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 03/02/2019 23:32

Do I have to live there all the time? Because I'd rather not, I don't like the weather. I'd love a flat in Central London for maybe a month a year though.

halfwitpicker · 03/02/2019 23:35

North Yorkshire.

Feilin · 04/02/2019 00:59

Craster , Allendale or North Yorkshire. Not likely to happen though so will settle for the north coast of Antrim when I retire. Carnlough or Glenarm .

moredoll · 04/02/2019 01:04

Highgate, London, or the West End in Glasgow (cold and wet though it is).

JustBeingJobless · 04/02/2019 02:02

I love where I live now - a lovely village in Derbyshire. Close to the motorway, plenty of little shops in the village and the two neighbouring villages, 10 minutes into a bigger town and half an hour in each direction into two city centres. It’s rural enough to have good walks from my doorstep and horses trotting past regularly, but has really good buses and isn’t far from a train station. I felt like I’d come home the minute I moved here.

If I was pushed, I’ve always quite fancied a sea view and my favourite coastal place is Colwyn Bay in North Wales, so I’d pick there just because I love the beach and the view across the water.

AlexaAmbidextra · 04/02/2019 02:11

North Norfolk coast with a flat in London Docklands/City for theatre trips etc.

makeitalargegin · 04/02/2019 02:15

Op where you want to live, literally describes where I live, Swansea, South Wales. I live in a little village around 20 mins from city centre .
Not going to name, don't want to put myself

Bluesheep8 · 04/02/2019 07:31

Where I live. West Yorkshire pennines. Beautiful countryside and walks, friendly village, easy access to big cities by car/train.

Kintan · 04/02/2019 08:57

I would buy this property I think, if we didn't need to be near London for work search.savills.com/property-detail/gbcfrscrs180034 If we still needed to work though, we do love where we are in SW London so would stay where we are and just get a slightly bigger house if money were no object:)

JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 · 04/02/2019 09:07

Manchester - I love the city and the people are really friendly I have loads of friends there and the prices wouldn't be too rediculous compared to what we pay now

Kemer2018 · 04/02/2019 09:15

Poole, Dorset, dawlish, Norfolk, fort William.
I live in a shithole town 40 miles from London and I cannot recommend the South East.
