Potato hash is bloody delicious

Scandaloso · 02/02/2019 22:20

Potato, onion, garlic, and mushrooms fried up together with some paprika and chilli flakes. A then a runny egg bunged on top.

How can something so humble taste so delicious? Had it this evening for the first time in yonks and it was like I'd been reunited with a long lost lover.

If not the food of the Gods it's at least the food of the people who cooked for the Gods.

There’s no mushrooms, chilli, paprika or garlic in a potato hash. Shock
There should be potatoes, carrots and onions and lashings of brown sauce!

Scandaloso · 02/02/2019 22:24

Carrots and brown sauce!

What kind of deviant are you??

Definitely no mushroom in a potato hash! Potato, onion and carrot, all fried up, yum.

It's a fave here. Can surely only be said as Taterash though!
Brown sauce is a must and loads of salt and pepper. Potatoes and onions and stock. Eggs for me and DH. My weird children don't like eggs.
I could eat it now...

Hazlenutpie · 02/02/2019 22:30

What about the corned beef?

Murinae · 02/02/2019 22:31

Got to have corned beef in it to be potato hash! So potatoes, carrots, onions and a tin of corned beef! I sometimes put sweet potatoes in too

Murinae · 02/02/2019 22:32

And I don’t fry mine. It’s boiled or pressure cooked and then bisto added to it

Scandaloso · 02/02/2019 22:35

Boiled?
With corned beef?

I find that quite distressing.

SuperHeroGirl · 02/02/2019 22:41

Potatoes are the devil. I make mine with celeriac!

Sparrowlegs248 · 02/02/2019 22:46
Grin
Wallabyone · 02/02/2019 22:48

I've never had potato hash and this thread has left me none the wiser as to what it actually is 😂 Off to google!

Pannalash · 02/02/2019 22:48

Carrots and brown sauce? 🤢

RomanyRoots · 02/02/2019 22:48

Potato hash has meat in it, either mince or corned beef.
It's like a stew, not fried.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 02/02/2019 22:52

My gran makes with corned beef but we don't all like it. Boil diced spuds and sliced onions in stock til they drop. Drain some of the stock (add diced corned beef if using) and then it sort of, congeals! I sometimes then fry it or bake it to get crispy bits. Sometimes we just eat it as a slump with bread. And brown sauce. And an egg.

Scandaloso · 02/02/2019 22:53

Google images shows fried potato hashes rather than boiled hashes.

Maybe I've been unwittingly eating American hash rather than British.

(Quite happy about that tbh)

Mushrooms and paprika? You'll be adding bloody avocado next 🥑

BlueCornishPixie · 02/02/2019 23:04

I would add bacon

I thought hash was fried? Really not sure about the addition of corned beef and carrots

Usuallyinthemiddle · 02/02/2019 23:07

My in laws have a humberside version called (sp) pan aggi. I know someone who calls it lobby and it makes me feel I'll just hearing it!

BlueCornishPixie · 02/02/2019 23:08

Surely with corned beef its corned beef hash and beef is beef hash.

Potato hash is potatoes. And onions. Improved by bacon but I will accept that that's a deviation.

Veterinari · 02/02/2019 23:13

Potatoes hash is fried potatoes with seasoning - basically hash brown type thing.

Boiled corned beef and potatoes is a corned beef hash

Soontobe60 · 02/02/2019 23:17

Tater ash. Spuds, onion, carrots, corned beef and bisto powder (NOT GRANULES). Boiled in a pan. Serve in a bowl over a thick slice of buttered bread, red cabbage and brown sauce.
Next day, fry up until it gets a crisp bottom, serve with a runny fried egg on top.

Potato hash is bloody delicious
concretesieve · 02/02/2019 23:20

Definitely a stew, made with stewing steak and, of course, served with pickled red cabbage.

Scandaloso · 02/02/2019 23:24

You're all ruining the sacred memories of my glorious fried hash with talk of stew and bisto and corned beef.

OP posts:
crazycatgal · 02/02/2019 23:31

@Soontobe60 That's not corned beef is it?

crazycatgal · 02/02/2019 23:32

Corned beef and bisto makes more sense than mushrooms and paprika!

Glad you enjoyed it anyway OP Smile
