Anyone remember those soup bowls with recipes on them from the 70s/80s

As in these:

www.1stopretroshop.com/item-pages/mod-china-bowls/soup-mugs-recipe-print-set.htm

I saw a couple in a charity shop today and it reminded me how ubiquitous they were in the 70s and 80s. I seem to remember thinking they were great as a child!

A friend of mine said you could get a set with green shield or tiger tokens (esso) and there was also an equivalent flan dish range. I'm not sure what shop actually sold them.

Anyone else have these years ago (or still got some floating around in a cupboard?!)

They sell them in the chemist near me!
Random thing to sell in there but they do. They're dead cheap too, about £3!

Rosehip10 · 31/01/2019 17:13

@Thehogfatherstolemycurry how random, perhaps your chemist bought up all the petrol station stock when the prom stopped and are still getting rid of them? Do they have the full range?

Those are the ones, Rosehip! Think they were green shield stamp ones. She has soup bowls like this too from the petrol station.

Hoddykins · 31/01/2019 17:40

I'm sure you can get these from T K Max occasionally! I've seen them recently.

AwdBovril · 31/01/2019 17:41

I've got a couple of these. One is oxtail, can't remember what's on the other one. I wasn't eve alive in the 70s. I keep an eye open in charity shops as I picked one of them up 2nd hand. The other belonged to my parents.

MyBreadIsEggy · 31/01/2019 17:43

My mum still has them Grin

Rosehip10 · 31/01/2019 17:45

@AwdBovril

Its looks like a complete set of seven would be:
Tomato
Onion
Mushroom
Chicken
Oxtail
Scoth Broth
& the "rare" Mulligatawny

I'm sure my parents still have them as well as the petrol station glasses

Fluffyears · 31/01/2019 17:50

I have 3, I broke the 4th one. Amazing little bowls.

DramaAlpaca · 31/01/2019 17:52

My 82 year old mum still has a full set, which I don't think she's ever used. I spotted them in the cupboard last time I was at her house.

MrsJayy · 31/01/2019 17:54

Probably keeping them for show Grin

HildaZelda · 31/01/2019 17:56

MIL's still got them. I'm sure I've seen them in a local pound shop in the last few years.

DramaAlpaca · 31/01/2019 18:04

Yes, MrsJayy that sounds like my DM Grin

ChiefSpoon · 31/01/2019 18:05

I have these. A local lady was selling them for £1 each.

3out · 31/01/2019 18:13

The wine glasses were a lovely size and shape. The Tiger tokens were so exciting 😂

Cocobana · 31/01/2019 18:20

We have three of these in cupboard, they were my parent’s. I think fine bought them from somewhere in the nineties. Fantastic memories of having soup in these as a child and people commenting on how great the handles were and how they fit a whole tin of soup!

Cocobana · 31/01/2019 18:21

they*

Hushnownobodycares · 31/01/2019 18:21

Never got the soup mugs but we had loads of Esso glasses. One just shattered once. Not dropped, no-one near it. Just shattered into about a million jagged pieces Shock

I had a recipe quiche dish as a wedding present. Think we only got rid of it last summer when the kitchen was done and we had a clear out Grin

vinoandbrie · 31/01/2019 18:23

We never had them, but from your OP I knew EXACTLY the type you meant before I clicked the link!

userschmoozer · 31/01/2019 18:25

< I saw this type recently in a local cheapjack shop and they looked like modern copies.

I remember my mum having some of the soup bowls when I was growing up.
I have this now. I got it from a charity shop when I was skint and needed a casserole dish.
