Hen2018 · 30/01/2019 15:18
  1. 5 years left. Or hopefully fewer.
Parky04 · 30/01/2019 15:21

47 and paid off 5 years ago thanks to an inheritance.

ZenNudist · 30/01/2019 15:25

40, paid it off at 36. Tempted to start again but put off by needing to get into about £500k debt to get the kind of house i want. I like having nice holidays instead.

Dh did flip a property recently so he had a mortgage last year.

ememem84 · 30/01/2019 15:26
  1. We just took out a new mortgage as we bought a new house. So another 30 years.

Our old mortgage had 12 years left. Sigh.

GMtoBe · 30/01/2019 15:27

29 and we have 18 years left.

MouseTheDog · 30/01/2019 15:30

SpiritedFarAway you need to check the terms of your mortgage but most allow overpayments of 10% per year. On my mortgage with NatWest I can both add a regular overpayment to my monthly payments and/or pay extra across on an adhoc basis. They have an online system where you can set up the regular overpayments and make individual payment. As easy as any other online transaction.

Anyone interested in overpaying the MSE mortgage calculator is a great place to start plus they have a sub forum ‘Mortgage free wannabes’ for OP geekery 🤓

sanityisamyth · 30/01/2019 15:31

35 years old.
£74k left on mortgage over 18 years but hoping to sell house soon.

myhamsteratefreddiestarr · 30/01/2019 15:32

46 and 19 years left due to divorce and remortgage. Would have been mortgage free in 10 years otherwise :( but the main thing was keeping the house.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 30/01/2019 15:42

38 and about 8 years

IggyAce · 30/01/2019 15:47

40 and just under 10years.

TheLastNigel · 30/01/2019 16:06

39, 28 years. Not ideal

ponygirlcurtis · 30/01/2019 16:07

45 and about 3 days. I am ridiculously over-excited about it!

Have another 5 years left on the term but have been overpaying due to the interest rate being so low.

titchy · 30/01/2019 16:08

50 and 15 years. 2 years beyond dh's retirement date.

scrawnybutscrumptious · 30/01/2019 16:09

43 and we have approx 10k left to be pay on a flexible mortgage, so we'll pay off when we can.

A mixture of buying first flat when we were young, selling at double what we paid, overpayment for years and sadly an inheritance due to both in-laws dying fairly young.

RaiderOfTheKitchenCupboard · 30/01/2019 16:32

36 and 6.5yrs, but probably less with overpayments (have reduced the term by 6 years already).

n0ne · 30/01/2019 16:35

40, and 4 years into a 30-year mortgage. Can't afford to overpay either so will retire around the same time we finish paying it off Shock

Although I imagine we'll sell it long before that.

IndigoSpritz · 30/01/2019 16:41

I'm 48. I have just over six years left on the mortgage. Reminds me, my current deal expires in April.

anniehm · 30/01/2019 16:58

45, 9 years.

kaytee87 · 30/01/2019 17:05

31 and 17 years, however we're just about to set up an overpayment of £500 per month.

BuffyFlanket · 30/01/2019 17:14

26 and 16 years not including overpayments

QueenMabby · 30/01/2019 17:18

42 and ours was paid off a couple of years ago - an inheritance.
