I’m 41 and have 15 years left
It’s less than 500 per month so hoping to repay earlier

Just trying to do some longer term financial planning

I’m 55. I’d already paid off my mortgage when I met ex and had ds.

When we split, I still had my deposit but had to get another £100k on mortgage to buy where I needed to be for work. Now I’m 4 years from paying this one off.

When I retire I am definitely moving somewhere less expensive and enjoying the extra money I’ve had to put in. Smile

Tiredmum100 · 30/01/2019 13:23

I'm 35 and we have 8 and a half years left on our mortgage.

mrsm43s · 30/01/2019 13:31

I'm 45 and we paid our mortgage off about 8 or 9 years ago. We'd been paying a mortgage on a property for about 15 years in total. Our house is not massive, and we could have moved to a bigger home and remortgaged, but we prefer to stay put in a relatively modest house and spend the money on things that are more important to us, mainly the children's education.

schnubbins · 30/01/2019 13:34

53 and paid off for the last 3 years.

IAmALionTamer · 30/01/2019 13:35

31 and 29 years left. We hope to pay it off much sooner, but at the moment we pay 2 sets of part time nursery fees and have seen my wage dip by working part time that overpaying isn’t an option for a while

stoplickingthetelly · 30/01/2019 13:38

I'm 37 and got 28 years left. It's around £900 a month. Can't overpay yet because of childcare costs, but hopefully we'll be able to in the future. Love our house though and wouldn't have it any other way.

PencereTencere · 30/01/2019 13:42

31 and 23 years left. When we bought this house we had to up the term by 5 years to keep the repayments relatively affordable.

JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 · 30/01/2019 13:42

30 and approx 8 years

InMySpareTime · 30/01/2019 13:43

40, paid it off at 38 though, through overpaying a bit over the years. £50 or £100 a month more on an overpayment every time we got a raise made little difference to our standard of living but shortened the mortgage considerably.
Now we save and invest what we spent on the mortgage towards Uni costs and pensions.

CountFosco · 30/01/2019 13:47

48, 19 years. Bought a bigger house last year, previous house we only had a couple of years left after massively overpaying for a few years. We had our family late so still have 3DC in primary school so will need the extra space over the next 20 years. Will downsize when we retire.

3in4years · 30/01/2019 13:49

When I am 66 it will be paid off, or sooner if we overpay. I hope interest rates don't rise too much. It's £650pm at the mo but I am on mat leave so we can't overpay.

PunkVic · 30/01/2019 13:56

Did have 20 left, but sold last year and moved countries. I'm 38.

daipaned · 30/01/2019 13:59

I'm 38, we have 11 years on one and 24 on the other one.
Small repayment, just over £600 for the two.
We could pay them both off but as the repayments are so low decided to put the money elsewhere. We do have plans to sell one property in the next few years though.

tierraJ · 30/01/2019 14:02

I'm 42 got until I'm 75 to pay off my mortgage haha better make sure I'm healthy!!

PoutySprout · 30/01/2019 14:06
  1. Will be mortgage free within 5 years, all being well.
Roomba · 30/01/2019 14:10

I'm 42 and bought on my own, so it's been a big struggle to pay it off at times of hardship (espec when made out of work and no housing help is available for 39 weeks, that was very tough. Thankfully life has improved since then!). 11.5 years left to go until I'm done!

Bought my house for £90k. It's now worth approx... ... £95k Grin Not sure what happened to soaring house values round here! Still, could be much, much worse.

LoubyLou1234 · 30/01/2019 14:12

We only bought 18 months ago. We are both 39. We have 23 and a half years left. However we've only got a mortgage on half it's purchased value and are overpaying. I hope to be mortgage free by 55, but by 50 if we can would be amazing. We have no plans to upsize or do major works like extensions. A 3 bed semi in a great location is fine for us.

explodingkitten · 30/01/2019 14:21
  1. We just bought a house so technically have 30 years left. My flat is sold and DH's will be put on the market once we've moved, from those we will pay off around half of the mortgage. We will then start overpaying to have it paid off the latest in 20 years time. We want to have a few years mortgage free before we reach pension age. That way we can either save ot or maybe even quit working a bit earlier.
NecklessMumster · 30/01/2019 14:23

57 and 5 years left

DameSylvieKrin · 30/01/2019 14:26

37, paid off 5 years ago.

TowerRingInferno · 30/01/2019 14:27

46 paid off

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 30/01/2019 14:30

47 and three years left, but DH is 67 so he’ll be 70 when it’s paid off. I was reading today that there are new mortgages available for payment up til 85 years old. How depressing 🙁
