Do you feel well?

I've been wondering lately how other people feel In terms of wellness. On a normal day, when you're not ill with something specific, do you feel well?
I ask because it's dawned on me that I hardly ever do, and nor does my partner. Either he has a cough, or is really tired or had a headache. I often just feel a bit yuk. Hard to put my finger on anything specific but just don't feel good. Sometimes I have a belting headache or am extremely tired or obviously sometimes I'm unwell with something like a cold. I do occasionally have days when I feel well, but they stand out.
We're 50, both a bit over weight but not too much, moderately active, non smoking, social drinking.
I'd love to know if this is mostly peoples experience.

Iron liquid is much more gentle than tablets but you shouldn't take either unless blood tests show you are low as too much can be harmful.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 29/01/2019 15:57

I never feel that well Mon-Thurs as I have to get up at 5, work a full day and then pack in exercise, seeing friends and housework so I am just permanently knackered.

I usually feel much better at the weekends because I am not rushing about so much.

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 29/01/2019 16:21

I feel well nearly always. My diet could be improved but I’m not overweight, don’t smoke or drink (maybe a couple of glasses of wine a month) and usually get a good solid 7 or 8 hours sleep. But I’m only 35, don’t yet have any kids and my job isn’t demanding or stressful and I have a comfortable easy life with my partner so I think I can put it down to that!

CottonSock · 29/01/2019 16:26

I'm knackered all the time. Just for blood test and I hope iron tablets will fix me. If not I'm just knackered forever.

SaveFerris1 · 29/01/2019 16:31

I normally feel reasonably well, I think. But at the moment I've got a virus that's making me feel yuck and which seems to have triggered my previously banished anxiety. So this week, I'm not feeling well.
However, am confident that in a few days I'll feel a lot better 🤞🤞

LoniceraJaponica · 29/01/2019 16:36

So sorry that so many of you feel rubbish most of the time

"I feel well, happy and fit the majority of the time, I rarely get colds or illness."

Like HolyMountain I feel well most of the time, barring the odd headache. I am 60, do pilates and run occasionally. I like to walk, but not in this weather.

CurbsideProphet · 29/01/2019 16:41

I generally feel a bit tired and headachey regardless of whether I'm eating well or exercising. I've got an awful viral infection at the moment and feel horrific - nauseous, headache, earache, exhausted, achey. I feel like I'll never be well again Confused

dahliaaa · 29/01/2019 16:42

Thanks penguin (blood tests have regularly shown anaemia over years because of heavy tablets but I hate the iron tablets )

AwfulSomething · 29/01/2019 16:42

I eat well, exercise daily, however 15 years of crippling shift work has left me feeling off most days...nausea, fuzzy head, drained... People who have retired or been lucky enough to get reasonably paid jobs in the 9-5 world say they felt better a few months on.

RavenLG · 29/01/2019 16:44

Never. Especially lately.

I've got an awful hacking chesty cough which I've had since last year (finally seeing dr on friday). I've constantly got post-nasal drip so I'm forever swallowing and feeling wretchy and sick. I ache all over. I have knackered ankles / wrists / back after a lifetime of gymnastics, so exercise is hard. I eat crap. I don't drink enough water. I have awful anxiety and depression and lately insomnia has returned. I really need to sort myself out.

Utini · 29/01/2019 16:46

Bluebobolink I think I might have that at the moment, been feeling really tired and weird for a couple of days. Also a week into a bad cold, but it feels like I'm getting something else now.

I generally don't feel that well though, especially at this time a year. I have hypothyroidism, although that's allegedly well controlled, migraines several times a month, and a breast fed 2 year old who still wakes me up multiple times a night for milk and is constantly sharing her germs!

Also back and neck pain from chronic muscle tension and kyphosis / scoliosis.

Really need to sort out my diet and get some exercise, but due to DD, work, and feeling so rubbish most of the time, I'm totally lacking in both time and motivation!

LikeACowsOpinion · 29/01/2019 16:48

Haven't felt 'well' in 5 years now.

I'm exhausted constantly. My body feels heavy and my limbs are like lead.
I've always got back, hip, grown and neck pain and my muscle are in a permanent tense and sore state.

That, plus a poor state of mental health and being a single parent with no support.

Hey ho.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/01/2019 16:48

I do. 99 days out of 100 I feel well. I could perhaps do with a bit more slepp but in general I feel good

I'm 51. I exercise (run) 5 times a week and try to meditate often. I don't smoke (never have) but I do drink too much. I also love my job, my kids are doing OK and and have a happy relationship. I think that helps too.

I hope that doesn't sound smug. I've had my fair share of troubles. Just that at the moment things are going well and that contributes to my feeling of wellness

LikeACowsOpinion · 29/01/2019 16:50

I thought it was just in my head.

But, more so recently, a lot of people have been making comments that I look deathly pale and tired.
I have enormous black bags under my eyes too.

Running on empty and pushing yourself does catch up eventually Sad

CigarsofthePharoahs · 29/01/2019 17:03

I have fibromyalgia so I feel pretty crappy most of the time.
Currently I'm getting over the second bout of a flu type bug in the space of a month. So I feel even worse!

fartfacemcfartfaceface · 29/01/2019 17:06

I have chronic kidney disease - stage 3, and I'm starting to suffer symptoms now, so very tired mainly. Coughs, colds and tummy bugs on top don't really help.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/01/2019 17:31

Yes, very well. Usually really lucky with colds/viruses - only get one a year.

I take masses of supplements, have a sleep routine, barely drink alcohol, do yoga. And crucially have no young children to keep me awake!

Cailleach · 29/01/2019 18:38

Tennis elbow, aching knees, rotting infected teeth causing sinus trouble, jaw pain from grinding teeth, anemia, night sweats, tension headches, bowel problems (ASD), gallbladder pain, acid reflux, tendonitis in wrists, sciatica...sadly all situation normal for me.

I know people younger than me that are long dead though, so, y'know.....

Troton · 29/01/2019 18:53

I’m 27. I eat well but probably a bit too much sugar. I always feel lethargic but have two young dc and also suffer with anxiety and I think the worrying drains me! I’ve felt better and more confident lately as I’m on meds for my acne and that In itself has made me feel more well but I think it’s tied into anxiety. Physically I’m well, I rarely get coughs and colds etc when the family get them. I do think as a nation we live more complex lives then we used to and probably eat less fresh produce and more crap and get less physical excercise.

Bluebobolink · 29/01/2019 20:53

utini my health is pretty poor generally but I'm not usually this lethargic and lacking interest on top of the usual, so the virus idea seems logical to me.. trying to do all the healthy things that might help a body feel better is such a challenge with health issues, work and family to work around, for sure!

RunSweatLaughAndLatte · 30/01/2019 07:28

I'm usually ill lately.. exhaustion, headache, anxiety and depression. But I'm feeling ok at the moment...

Lovelyflowerstoday · 30/01/2019 07:35

I've got shingles atm and feel quite miserable, don't usually get colds though thankfully. Pretty much always tired, in my 50's. Old age doesn't look particularly attractive in many ways I have to say! I'm not normally this pessimistic.

PenguinPandas · 30/01/2019 08:03

Dahliaaa Iron tablets would make me ill but Feroglobin (got it from Waitrose) didn't affect me at all and magnesium in it took away aches and pains - only thing to watch it is restored my iron levels after a while so needed to stop taking.

dahliaaa · 30/01/2019 09:20

Thanks Penguin - useful to know

CottonSock · 30/01/2019 16:28

I started on iron today. I don't need to put up with feeling shit forever (fingers crossed).
