How have you looked after or spoilt yourself lately?

Saturday I dropped my son at my parents at 11am. He hadn't seen them or a week or so so wanted to go round and sleepover.

DH was at work so I had 7 whole hours to myself.

I went home, got a big bowl of chilli, snuggled in bed and watched River on Netflix. Then bedded down for an hour or so's sleep. Then went and had a manicure and gel polish applied.

I really REALLY enjoyed it. I am off Friday this week and Monday next... very tempted to repeat the same!

Very similar to you!
Luther on Netflix, my fave lasagna and coleslaw combo (I know!) then went for a blow dry and got my shellac done.
That was last Tuesday and it really set me up for the week!

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 28/01/2019 11:32

I’m planning on doing similar this afternoon after my counselling session with a curry!

Other ways I’ve looked after myself are taking the time to file and paint my nails regularly, it just makes me feel more polished. I’ve also invested in olaplex for my highlighted hair and it’s made a WORLD of difference to it, it feels so much nicer and stronger. Far more than I’d normally spend on my hair but worth every penny and feels like looking after me.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 28/01/2019 11:33

Just realised that sounded like I was attending a counselling session with a curry Grin! Meant after my counselling session with a human I will be snuggling down with a bowl of curry to watch some Netflix!

New Years resolution is to buy myself a bunch of flowers every couple of weeks, nothing flash just a couple of quid from Aldi, every time I walk past them on the window ledge they make me 😊

NightOwlHoney · 28/01/2019 11:36

I am currently having myself a spa day. Dropped the DC off, have had a lovely massage and facial, am relaxing on a sunbed by the pool as I type and after I have a wee sauna/steam, I am having afternoon tea, before I head back for school pickup.

I'm recovering from illness though and life is generally very shite for me at the moment. I'm doing what I can to keep my mental health from going off the deep end.

YogaWannabe · 28/01/2019 11:39

@Wellfuckmeinbothears do you do the Olaplex at home?
I always get it when I have my highlights but I’d love to treat it at home!

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 28/01/2019 11:46

@Yoga yep I do! I buy it from amazon. The number 3, put it in of an evening and leave it overnight then wash as normal the next day. It’s been a total game changer for me!

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 28/01/2019 11:48

Sorry meant to add I do this 2-3 times a week. I only wash my hair every three days so if I wash it on a Monday I’ll put the olaplex in on Sunday night. Then again on Wednesday night to wash Thursday mornin using dry shampoo in between washes. It’s amazing stuff!

cjt110 · 28/01/2019 12:01

@rosie39forever I love this... here's some more for you Flowers

@NightOwlHoney That's precisely why I ask... I am at a good place mentally. First time in a LONG time and want to keep myself there.

Have rebooked my nails for 2 weeks time. Before Saturday, the last time I had them done was 4 or 5 years ago.

@cjt110 why thank you right back at you Flowers

SeaViewBliss · 28/01/2019 12:19

My looking after myself actually involved going out to eat with DH. I have overcome a lot of stresses in the last year. This has meant our relationship has taken a beating.

I really enjoyed sitting with him, eating, chatting but most especially, laughing. We are very lucky to have a very positive year ahead (fingers crossed!) so it was lovely to focus on the positives for a change.

Sorry if that’s vom inducing Blush

aquaviv · 28/01/2019 12:21

That sounds like bliss. Spoiling myself to me is managing to have a bath in the evening when kids have gone bed and I won't get disturbed.

Cookiedough123 · 28/01/2019 12:26

Just bought myself some new running trainers

I came on this thread interested to see how many put something beauty related down as “looking after yourself” or spoining yourself.

For women, “pampering” is almost exclusively doing something to make us look better.

I am interested as getting my nails and hair etc done is as far from “spoiling myself” as i can get. I dislike the whole experience.

So- anybody do anything other than looks related stuff? Any ideas? I am trying to think how men might “spoil themselves” but drawing a blank.

I agree that a lot of 'self care' women indulge in seems to be appearance focused.

I've joined the gym. I only go a couple of times a week but the mental benefits of it last throughout the week. I'm also taking more time for myself enjoying peace and quiet - I spent the weekend enjoying the Wild Atlantic Way - nothing quite like wild nature to recharge the batteries!! Lots of fresh air, bracing winds and really feeling 'at one' with nature.

My plan is to spend a weekend a month away from home, the children, work, responsibility and to just 'ground' myself.

And lots of reading and music making.

A pint of real ale by a log fire in a quiet country pub.

Anything that is physically, mentally, spiritually or culturally stimulating really.

As was the chilli and netflix in bed Grin

I got an unexpected £200 bonus from work last week. I blew it on shoes, shite from Flying Tiger and Molton Brown stuff. Spunked the whole lot in 15 minutes. It was brilliant.

Upset74 · 28/01/2019 13:19

A nice bath while reading my new book.

stickygotstuck · 28/01/2019 13:26

I got myself a new drum!

Expensive, but it will keep me going for a while. It's also beautiful to look at, so a bit like rosie's flowers Wink

And not a moment's guilt that you didn't spend any of it on anyone else I hope!! Wink

Rockbird · 28/01/2019 13:41

I went back to bed for an hour and ate a bag of chocolate peanuts, deliberately bought because no one else likes them. It was lovely.

MysweetAudrina · 28/01/2019 13:41

for the last 10 months I have done a yoga class every morning before work 7-8. I love it and never miss it. It means being organised and getting up very early but it's an hour every day that I give to myself as the rest of the time i feel like I am on someone elses clock.

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 28/01/2019 13:43

Flowers, candles, nights out with friends are the things that get me through the winter. Flowers and candles don't need to be expensive, I get as much pleasure from Tesco flowers and an Ikea candle.

WhatIsTheMeaningOfThis · 28/01/2019 13:45

Tbf, the pp didn't say it was being done for the men who might like it, she just observed that a lot of women's self care was appearance focused and wondered what men do for self care.

I think she was just wondering what women who aren't appearance focused do for self care as an alternative.
