How have you looked after or spoilt yourself lately?

Saturday I dropped my son at my parents at 11am. He hadn't seen them or a week or so so wanted to go round and sleepover.

DH was at work so I had 7 whole hours to myself.

I went home, got a big bowl of chilli, snuggled in bed and watched River on Netflix. Then bedded down for an hour or so's sleep. Then went and had a manicure and gel polish applied.

I really REALLY enjoyed it. I am off Friday this week and Monday next... very tempted to repeat the same!

Napping or reading is my self care or meeting friends. Ideally meet friends then have a nap afterwards.

mogtheexcellent · 28/01/2019 16:42

I still only work four days a week even though DD is at school. This week I'm getting my hair cut and coloured. I keep enough back in my account to cover this on top of the amount matching my DH keeps in his (so we have equal spends).

I do the finances and cant help the fact my hair costs more to look after Wink.

On a Wednesday and Sunday night I have a roasting hot shower. Out into a warm towel. Blow dry my hair and style it ready for the next day. I do my tan once a week and an all over intensive moisturise. I exfoliate my face and apply a good moisturiser. I redo my gels if needs be and have a good old pamper session. I absolutely love it!!

In the winter months I am a gym bunny. At night I often relax in bed with a book and read to the children. Or watch Netflix. We are going on a nature walk on Saturday. I need fresh air.
Anything that is spiritually enhancing. I enjoy tarot reading. At weekends I often nap.

MsMustDoBetter · 28/01/2019 17:36

Absolutely time at home alone!

A bath in peace.
Reading in silence.
Eating whatever I want.
Watching whatever I want.
Wearing something super cosy.

I'd actually go away to accomplish this if I could justify it to my family!

MorningsEleven · 28/01/2019 18:45

I've gone and bought another pair of shoes. I'm claiming they're for work.

I then came home and had a huge bowl of homemade tomato soup which was nourishing and tasty so I felt very virtuous

Why would you feel virtuous after soup?

This is a lovely thread !

I've started buying groupon deals for treats for me. They often have 20% off. I used one a few weeks ago for a facial and massage to a new salon. Not something i'd usually do for no reason and I really enjoyed it. Have got a few more lined up like a swim/sauna at a local hotel and afternoon tea afterwards.

Dixiechickonhols · 28/01/2019 23:56

Cinema in daytime on my own has been a new enjoyable thing for me. Never done it before in my life, now been twice in 6 weeks and i'm going again tomorrow.

Cagliostro · 29/01/2019 00:02

Not much. Coming off ADs (they didn’t work at all and the side effects were awful, but get even worse while tapering off) and feel pretty horrible

Today I managed to get dressed and then sit up on the sofa to watch an episode of Marie kondo on Netflix while I had a mint daim bar. That felt positive :)

Pinkbells · 29/01/2019 01:24

Sometimes when my husband is away I snuggle down in the spare room (no TV in our room) with a glass of bubbly, whatever I want to watch on Netflix and my most unsexy, snuggly pyjamas!

lovespaniels · 29/01/2019 01:34

I'm having me time this Friday- I'm getting my haircut, my salon does a lovely head massage whilst they shampoo your hair then a cut and blowout afterwards!

I only get my haircut once every 8 weeks as I can't afford it more than that. (£38 each time)

I don't really do anything else tbh, a coffee out or an eyebrow wax once in a while is usually my cheaper go to.

I would love to get massages regularly, get my nails done and sign up to a nice gym if I had some extra money. The gym would be kind of pointless though as the nice one near me I'd have to drive to and I can't drive!Grin

I get mine cut every 6 months Blush

Last night I was freezing in bed. DH is always warm - he's like a hairy toaster - so I snuggled up to get a heat. He said today he was really happy that I was cuddling him because he loves me. Didn't have the heart to say I've been using him as a hot water bottle for 22 years.

fullerhouse · 29/01/2019 01:44

stegosauruslady I’m so tempted to get that game and steal the kids switch is it any good?

Today I had the whole day off work I spent it relaxing in bed reading, watching tv oh and ordering myself a shark cordless vacuum I have been eyeing up for a very long time. Kind of excited for it to be delivered now Grin

Great thread!

Lifeofsmiley · 29/01/2019 07:29

dixie, I love going to the cinema on my own in the daytime. Sometimes I get the cinema to myself.

My own treats to myself are a regular massage and I get my ironing done once a month, not very exciting but it keeps me happy.
I used to read all the time but I feel like I don’t have any concentration any more, I blame social media and the internet.

That was my plan today aswell for my last day of for 6 months and it's started snowing heavy! Doubt I'll make it,all country roads to get to the motorway!

Dixiechickonhols · 29/01/2019 11:45

Drogosnextwife What a shame, just rain here no snow.

OneStepMoreFun · 29/01/2019 11:50

@reallyanotherone
To me 'spoiling myself' means doing something - anything - that is entirely for my own pleasure not at anyone else's beck and call, and that makes me feel good.
Grooming is part of that. Animals groom. I feel better when I've managed to properly condition my dry hair or looked after my very brittle nails, because I look healthier in the world and people do respond more positively to people who take care of themselves.

But my ideal self-care would be a long ramble - not the snatched one hour walks I usually managed but an all day hill or coastal walk. Or a day by a log fire, reading a book.

speakout · 29/01/2019 12:51

It's often not about stuff is it.

It's about treating ourselves with compassion, nurturing ourselves.

A wise woman posted this on another thread this morning:

How have you looked after or spoilt yourself lately?
BayLeaves · 29/01/2019 12:51

I agree with @OneStepMoreFun. Grooming isn't always about appearance. Soaking and moisturising your skin, conditioning hair, trimming and buffing your nails and maybe giving them a coat of clear varnish, it all creates a feeling of having looked after your body from the outside. You don't have to be 'appearance focused' to enjoy those things. A lot of men enjoy these things at spa days etc too.

EunikeLavender · 29/01/2019 12:56

I went for a lovely back, neck and shoulder massage this morning and now I'm sitting in front of the fire, feet up on the recliner with foot mask socks on and watching a movie. I've been so busy recently that it's lovely to have a day just to unwind.

Dixiechickonhols · 29/01/2019 13:57

Sounds lovely EunikLavender
