Obsolete things

Please can you help me? I’m trying to compile a list of things that are now obselete, like fax machines and VHS tapes. (They don’t have to be technology-based, though.) This is for an amateur film I’m loosely involved in planning.
Thanks!

Just thought of another one: cheque books!

Manual telephone exchanges.

Annoyance · 26/01/2019 22:58

Ploppymoodypants I use a paper diary. You can buy nice ones from Paperchase.

PurpleDaisies · 26/01/2019 22:58

I have an answerphone.

PurpleDaisies · 26/01/2019 22:59

I also use a paper diary. They’re standard for all staff in schools.

We have a fax machine at work
A manual credit card machine in case we lose power
A carpet sweeper
I have a paper diary
At home we have an old phone that doesn't need electricity as it may come in useful you never know
I'm turning into my mother

Some professional photographers still use film 35mm and large format cameras, especially for moody black and white ‘art photography’.
We had a cheese fondue last Tuesday!
Unfortunately, mumps and rickets are still around. Rare, but not obsolete.

Osirus · 26/01/2019 23:01

I sent loads of faxes last week! Shock (law firm).

We also still use cheques there, and I still write my own.

Ghetto blaster, would be contribution. And CB radio!

Kids playing outside. Where the hell are they?!!

Annoyance · 26/01/2019 23:02

AOL CDs. They used to come through the letterbox all the time.

ShatnersBassoon · 26/01/2019 23:02

Travellers cheques. I think my mum might be the last person on earth still using them. She thinks they're the most convenient way to spend abroad Confused

Badbilly · 26/01/2019 23:03

Manual telephone exchanges.

Still in use today, but In very specialised places ( military establishments, nuclear bunkers)

Cigarette holders
Antimacassars

ShadyLady53 · 26/01/2019 23:10

I still get paid by cheque for my freelance work 🙄. Mini-discs are still used in the music industry.

BikeRunSki · 26/01/2019 23:11

@Badbilly - there’s still an attendee filling station in my mum’s town in Somerset.

MuppetFamily · 26/01/2019 23:11

I reverted to a paper diary last year though - all hail to this one, which has changed my life (don’t work for them - promise Wink).

I still wear a real watch.
A visitor to the club I attend did a speech/presentation a while ago and they used a slide projector!
People on here were taking about using filofaxes as bullet journals.
I still use a paper diary (though it's a fancy notebook and I write the days and days in it myself) because I remember it better if I write appointments and bookings down. If I use a digital or online diary I forget things, despite the reminders.

The only things I can think of are floppy disks and mini disks and the machines used to play them.

Annoyance · 26/01/2019 23:13

Wax cylinders.

Badbilly · 26/01/2019 23:14

I still use a slide rule now and again ( in some areas at work we are not allowed any electronic devices)
