Ok, putting together a playlist of Power ballads.
What is your favourite of all time. It can be from a film or not, it doesn't matter.

I"ve started with my favourite, really cliche but:

I don't want to miss a thing/ Aerosmith/ Armagedon.

To me a power ballad is something you belt out at the top of your lungs, doesn't really matter if it's rock or pop. Though I agree that the 80s was the golden age for them.

theaccidentaleconomist · 26/01/2019 23:23

Has to be Bonnie Tyler and the possessed schoolboys for me.

Sparklingbrook · 26/01/2019 23:23

Yes, a lot of these I wouldn't class as Power Ballads as such.

Personally for me there is usually the prescence of loads of hair and guitars.

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 23:23

Our power ballad queens. A lack of hair conditioner was not going to hold these ladies back.

The B side of Suddenly was good too, "Falling".

I also like Through the Barricades - Spandau Ballet.

CandleConcerto · 26/01/2019 23:37

Love Walked In by Thunder

I also love Fear of the Dark

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 26/01/2019 23:38

Sparkling that's a good list, I'd forgotten about Bad English, we had that on our wedding video.

I'm getting very nostalgic about the many drunken hours I've spent at various Rock Nights.

Northernmum100 · 26/01/2019 23:38

Meatloaf- I'd do anything for love (but I won't do that)

Applesaregreenandred · 26/01/2019 23:39

Another Jim Steinman one - For Crying Out Loud

Whitney Houston - Didn't we always have it all

So many of these mentioned are some of my favourite songs - bringing back many memories

ApocalypseNowt · 26/01/2019 23:41

Just 'watched' this thread. Sunday job 1: make awesome power ballads playlist.

RomanyRoots · 26/01/2019 23:47

i'm tackling a pile of washing up as left it rather late Grin
I'm slowly going through the list, playing the ones I thought I didn't know, only to recognise them.

So glad there’s a lot of love for Wind of Change

That one always sent shivers down my spine.
I love that it seems to be written by someone who didn’t have English as a first language, none of the idioms are quite in the right context... as though they’ve been translated. but put together the images are exactly right and make one immensely powerful song. It’s just perfect.

Also got to have Alone by Heart

And

China in Your Hand.

MrsMartinRohde · 27/01/2019 00:05

Kayleigh - Marillion
Vienna - Ultravox
The Final Countdown -Europe

RomanyRoots · 27/01/2019 00:16

I still have no idea how I missed wind of change, but thank you all for this suggestion, it is very powerful.
So glad i started this now.
But have promised to get some earlier nights, not doing so well Grin
Will be back to make sure I have all these on my playlist tomorrow.

Night all Thanks

Ha ha, Viroids, yes! Thank you.

And how is The Mercy Seat or Rebel Yell power ballads? Nowhere near sentimental or power-chordy enough. Powerful 80s songs yes, but not ballads?

Ifangyow · 27/01/2019 00:41

The power of love. Frankie goes to Hollywood.

Ifangyow · 27/01/2019 00:42

sushisuperstar · 27/01/2019 00:53
