Ok, putting together a playlist of Power ballads.
What is your favourite of all time. It can be from a film or not, it doesn't matter.

I"ve started with my favourite, really cliche but:

I don't want to miss a thing/ Aerosmith/ Armagedon.

Assuming it qualifies as a power ballad, try the relatively unknown Nowhere Fast. It’s a Jim Steinman extravaganza.

HelloViroids · 26/01/2019 23:06

@WarmthAndDepth I was coming on to ask exactly the same qu about Summer of 69! Also love your username - does it originate from a phrase that starts with “I’d call him a...”?!Grin

MeganChips · 26/01/2019 23:07

I love this thread! So many already mentioned but please can I add:

Carrie - Europe
Suddenly - Angry Anderson
Dream on - Aerosmith

Thunderpunt · 26/01/2019 23:07

November Rain by Pistols and Pansies all day long....

Or

Kyrie Eleison....can't remember who, blow it! Going to google now!

Thunderpunt · 26/01/2019 23:08

Mr Mister

WellGoshDarnIt · 26/01/2019 23:08

No, there's certainly no hard and fast definition. Like I said, you get a lot of crossover, (look at Michael Bolton! Not exactly a rocker, but he could certainly belt out a power ballad). I think that the concept of the power ballad is generally accepted to have originated in the world of rock though.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 23:08

Mr mister. Yes I am here for all your dodgy 80s music needs.

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 23:09

I think I agree with WellGosh's scientific definitions.

She missed out hairspray and dry ice though. All true power ballads must have an abundance of hairspray and dry ice and it must be evident even over the radio.

Spiceboy · 26/01/2019 23:09

Totals eclipse of the heart. I’m drunk right now while my daughter sleeps!!

Thunderpunt · 26/01/2019 23:10

I am now saving this thread and going to check my current Power Ballad playlist for all those that are missing.
Thanks all GrinGrin

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 23:10

And tight leather trews.

FunnysInLaJardin · 26/01/2019 23:10

I loathe power ballads. HTH

MissTook · 26/01/2019 23:10

@Jsmith you’re right, I got carried away. Grin

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 26/01/2019 23:10

Suddenly - Angry Anderson
My Immortal - Evanescense
Faithfully - Journey

WellGoshDarnIt · 26/01/2019 23:12

How could I have forgotten the dry ice......Whitesnake were the kings of dry ice - you could barely see the band sometimes. And, oh yes, David Coverdale in his leather pants was truly a sight to behold :-))

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 23:12

Also, although not a pre requisite, a lot of power ballads make no sense. Kyrie Eleison down the road that I must travel? Wtf does that even mean?

The more preposterous the better.

CandleConcerto · 26/01/2019 23:12

Roachford - Cuddly Toy

ILikePaperHats · 26/01/2019 23:14

Black Velvet

WellGoshDarnIt · 26/01/2019 23:15

It's a great shame that Bat Out Of Hell the Musical has closed in London - that show was stuffed with power ballads. Bloody fantastic it was too - hope they revive it some day.

Raahh · 26/01/2019 23:17

Kyrie Eleison(sp) means Lord have Mercy(I think) in , in Christian liturgy.

Used to amuse me, as it was a phrase, used every week at Church. Grin.

Muffinbutton · 26/01/2019 23:17

Mr Big - to be with you

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 23:18

Yeah, that's what I mean. Lord have mercy down the road that I must travel.

RomanyRoots · 26/01/2019 23:19

WellGoshdarnit

many thanks, I had noticed some were not directly Power Ballads ito genre, but i thought we could use the term loosely as in powerful lyrics/music or both.
There are so many powerful songs.
