Ok, putting together a playlist of Power ballads.
What is your favourite of all time. It can be from a film or not, it doesn't matter.

I"ve started with my favourite, really cliche but:

I don't want to miss a thing/ Aerosmith/ Armagedon.

shamer

Love bites - Def Leppard.

MiceSqueakCatsMeow · 26/01/2019 22:33

These Dreams by Heart.

I love this song.

Eurythmics - there must be an angel
Skunk anansie - secretly

Raahh · 26/01/2019 22:37

Years ago, when I worked in Our Price , 'Driving' compilations and power ballads were a big thing.

My favourite - John Waite- Missing You (and John Farnham, as already mentioned).

They were on all of them.

Along with Stevie Winwood- Valerie. Grin

Can't have a 'Driving' compilation without Stevie Winwood ,Valerie!

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 22:38

Gotta have November Rain! The video is fucking brilliant.

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 22:39

Anything by Heart. All of them. Especially the one where she picks up a hitch hiker, shags him a motel, and has his kid Grin

Jsmith99 · 26/01/2019 22:40

Wind of Change by Scorpions.

A song which spoke so powerfully to so many of us who lived through the Cold War and looked forward with real hope and optimism to a re-unified Europe in a new century with new generations putting the divisions and conflicts of the past behind us, once and for all :

“The future's in the air
I can feel it everywhere
Blowing with the wind of change
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change”

How did it all go so tragically wrong? Sad

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 22:40

Nothings Gonna stop us now.

Candleconcerto I love Poison.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 22:41

Scandaloso that's All I Wanna Do. Graham Norton should have had it on his tune with a tale feature. It's practically Shakespeare.

RomanyRoots · 26/01/2019 22:42

Aw this is lovely, I know could just youtube, but it's lovely hearing what others like and the enthusiasm. Thanks
I was never a ballad type of person, preferred madness or Ska growing up Grin
These are brilliant, many thanks.

Jsmith that song was incredibly important to people I met in former Eastern Bloc countries.

RomanyRoots · 26/01/2019 22:43

Oh, and thanks for "Wind of Change" hadn't heard it before, and watched the video.

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 22:44

It's practically Shakespeare.

It is! Shakespeare transplanted to Ohio. She was a determined lady driver and she knew what she wanted that night Grin

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 22:46

You hadn't heard Winds of Change!? You couldn't move in 1990 without hearing that bloody whistly song

MuppetFamily · 26/01/2019 22:46

@Myranium 'Love Walks In' would be on my list - takes me back nearly 30years...

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 22:46

Little did she know that she'd end up on the Jeremy Kyle show 25 years later.

Raahh · 26/01/2019 22:46
Grin

Ahh, 1990.

I'm still 19 in my head.

PowerslidePanda · 26/01/2019 22:47

Most of my favourites have already been mentioned here, but one that hasn't:

When Love & Hate Collide - Def Leppard

MissTook · 26/01/2019 22:47

It’s over, Roy Orbison.

WellGoshDarnIt · 26/01/2019 22:48

Two out of Three ain't bad - Meatloaf
Heaven can wait - Meatloaf
This ain't a love song - Bon Jovi
Cryin' - Aerosmith
Far Away - Nickelback
When Love and Hate Collide - Def Leppard

The absolute best one for screaming at the top of your lungs in the car is most definitely though.....

It's All Coming Back To Me Now - Celine Dion (must be the long version though - bloody fantastic. If there's one thing Jim Steinman can do well, it's write a banging power ballad).
I feel compelled to point out though, (as a big fan of power ballads and long-haired rock in general), that a lot of the songs mentioned above are most definitely not power ballads, they are pop ballads. Equally good, but a different genre completely.

jellyelly · 26/01/2019 22:48

I have a fondness for All By Myself - personally I love the Shirley Bassey version though I have to admit the Celine Dion version may be the classic. And has anyone mentioned I will always love you?? The Dolly version obviously Wink

ew1990 · 26/01/2019 22:49

Oh and not sure if it's a power balled but I love Shakespeares sisters stay
