How long after baby's born do you take out?

My baby was orb on Monday and although I know you don't have to wait long if any time to take baby out, I'm just wondering how long most of you waited before taking for a stroll in the pram?

I'm not up to going far as still recovering from c section but think a little fresh air might be nice if I wrap him up well?

Took DS1 out at 5 days old because we were in hospital until then.

DTs were 12 weeks because they were in neonatal.

piraterach · 25/01/2019 15:40

I had a c section and went for a gentle stroll (in my surgical stockings and comfy leggings) at about 5 days old. Congrats on your lo Smile

First baby was 2 days I think. By the time I had my third we were out and about later that same day (born early morning)

Ds1 5 days as was in hospital until then. We went for a walk in the park and popped into the pub. Loved having a summer baby.

Ds2, 2 days, went to toddler group and cafe as trying to follow ds1's routine as far as possible.

Parthenope · 25/01/2019 15:42

We took and bus and tube home from the hospital, so two days old.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 25/01/2019 15:42

DD was about three days old. Went for a quick walk around the block as we just needed the fresh air after being in the hospital and stuck at home!

PristineCondition · 25/01/2019 15:44

Ds1 about a week
Ds2 did the school run the next day with me

SoyDora · 25/01/2019 15:44

About 24 hours with all mine.

MrsL2016 · 25/01/2019 15:44

Apart from coming home from the hospital, 5 days old we went to the in laws and I popped to get my eyebrows done.

Notquiteagandt · 25/01/2019 15:45

Ive been bed bound most of pregnancy. So I know I will be clawing at walls to escape and get fresh air. I am planning to get out as soon as possible and feel upto it. Not planning on a time frame. Going to listen to my body. (Baby is coming weds!)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/01/2019 15:46

no reason why you shouldnt if your baby is healthy- i think i did a walk round the block by day 3, hate being couped up

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 25/01/2019 15:47

Ds 3 was born at 6 am. I collected dc 1+2 from school at 3 pushing the pram.
My dm had come to look after them but fell on the way to school and broke her arm. I was discharged before her!!

NicoleNoPants · 25/01/2019 15:48

She was born on the Saturday, hospital until late on Sunday so we took her out Monday.

RiverTam · 25/01/2019 15:48

we took DD out for a stroll at about 6 days (in hospital for 5), might still have been snowing! All snug in her pram.

Do it!

MrsJDornan · 25/01/2019 15:56

Ds was a couple of days

Dd was 23hours old, I had the school run to do. Wouldn't do it again though

Dhalandchips · 25/01/2019 16:00

Was kicked out the house on day three cos stbxh wanted to have a rehearsal!

BlackInk · 25/01/2019 16:49

I think with both of our DC we went out and about the day after we came home from the hospital. So with DS that was around 2 or 3 days old and DD that was 1 or 2 days old. It didn't occur to me to stay in, but I tend to just get on with things and we were lucky in that me and babies were all well.

Endofrelationship · 25/01/2019 17:05

I had my section on Friday. Was home Saturday and took DD with us to a soft play party DS had been invited to on the Sunday.

Have been out for a short stroll every day since.

Melittlebee · 25/01/2019 17:29

Fab thanks everyone. Will take him out tomorrow.

First two days second was out less than 24 hours after giving birth.

Yearofthemum · 26/01/2019 11:57

Be cautious. I tended to do too much after a caesarean and only noticed 5 minutes after I should have. Potter about but do not travel at all far.

Billballbaggins · 26/01/2019 12:00

C-section first time and I took a short walk with the pushchair when he was 7 days old
C-section again with baby 2 but I felt better overall and was out with the pushchair at 4 days post section.
Take it slowly, enjoy it Smile

BertrandRussell · 26/01/2019 12:00

The baby will be fine but be really careful not to overdo things yourself. Don’t go alone in case you do go a bit too far and need someone to push the pram home again.

Billballbaggins · 26/01/2019 12:02

Oh yes I second taking someone with you as well!

BertrandRussell · 26/01/2019 12:37

“Oh yes I second taking someone with you as well!”

I adore babies and frequently volunteer for this role- trying not to hope that I do get to push the pram home! Grin
