How long after baby's born do you take out?

My baby was orb on Monday and although I know you don't have to wait long if any time to take baby out, I'm just wondering how long most of you waited before taking for a stroll in the pram?

I'm not up to going far as still recovering from c section but think a little fresh air might be nice if I wrap him up well?

I waited a few days and then said to the community midwife if we were 'allowed' to take our baby out yet!! (We'd only ever had dogs before & obv you have to wait until they've had all their jabs so we weren't sure if babies were similar...Grin)

The mw laughed and gently told us to take him out whenever we were ready as he was ours. We did feel a bit silly but then the penny dropped that we actually had a real human person who was completely ours and the weight of responsibility dropped like a ton of bricks!!

We took him round the local park veeeeeeery slowly and carefully...

Took baby on the school run at 3 days old.

Salene · 24/08/2019 13:31

Next morning we went for a walk round local village

Next day for me, with number 2 the same day. I bounce back quickly. Just protect from sun/rain/cold/hot as applicable - I had to do an emergency clothes run because dd was so small!

noroominthefridge · 24/08/2019 13:46

DS born Thursday lunchtime. Home from hospital that evening. Met friends for lunch the next day.

funmummy48 · 24/08/2019 13:50

Took mine out the next day on the school run.

Scruffalicious · 24/08/2019 13:50

8 hours with first - walked home from hospital same day, but had had a VB.

Two weeks with second - another VB! Really does depend how you feel Smile

Dd1 was 3days old, when we got home. My mum had her out in the pram in the garden at 7am the next morning( I was still asleep)
Dd2 was 3 days old, we took her to see my mum in her care home.

SatsumasRock · 24/08/2019 15:05

Less than 24 hours with my 2nd. Decided we would all go to bloody Sealife centre with baby and our toddler. Then, when we got there, we remembered it was middle of summer holidays and there was queue round the block. Feck knows what I was thinking. I must have been delirious or something.

The kids fell asleep in buggy on walk back to the car so we went to an art gallery. Must have looked like pretentious twats trying to instill some culture a not even two year old and a not even 1 day old.

BikeRunSki · 24/08/2019 15:09

We went to do a Asda shop when he was 7 days old. It was the afternoon of the day we were discharged from hospital

Chivers53 · 24/08/2019 15:16

As others have said it should be fine, just make sure they are dressed appropriately for the weather and that you take it easy. Taking someone with you is a great idea, the first time I went out was to register the birth and it was so much more challenging than I thought; I fainted so glad someone else was with me.

GoldenHoops · 24/08/2019 17:12

10 days with all of them.

Drogosnextwife · 24/08/2019 17:14

Went to asda the day after I got out of hospital. Would have went that day if they had let us out earlier.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 24/08/2019 17:16

How did it go @Melittlebee?
Baby must be about 7mo now, presumably out of the bubblewrap packaging now? Grin

Isthebigwomanhere · 24/08/2019 18:14

Dd1 and Dd2 I took for a walk a couple of hours after being discharged.
With Dd1 I had a very easy birth and boundless energy.
With Dd2 I was literally scared to be in on my own with her as she was so small, so I literally walked around the local park a lot just to ease my own anxiety 😀

Frith2013 · 24/08/2019 18:44

Every day for a walk.

Drove him to see his great grandparents before he was 24 hours old.

Redglitter · 24/08/2019 18:48

How on earth do people find these zombie threads. I imagine the baby in question has been out by now 🙄

FuckAPotNoodle · 24/08/2019 18:49

Apart from home from hospital it was five days with DS - but that was to do with my stitches, not his health.

He could have gone out from day one!

Pipandmum · 24/08/2019 18:50

I had section and took baby out to restaurant second day home.
It’s hot out you don’t have to wrap up too warm!

SarahAndQuack · 24/08/2019 18:51

As soon as we were out of hospital (she was in for a few days). DP went to sleep and I popped round the corner to the shops with her wrapped up in a blanket on my shoulder. It was lovely.

SteeeeRuggling · 24/08/2019 18:53

I had DD at 8am. Walked the school run (about 1 mile in total) at 3pm.
However I had a straight forward birth, only 3 stitches and had a bloody good lunchtime nap.

My friend had a c section 10 days ago and today was her first time out of the house. Whenever you’re ready.

Congratulations!

Sunshine1235 · 24/08/2019 18:59

I think it’s more about when you’re ready rather than the baby, as long as you feel up to the walk and like it would be helpful not stressful then do it

RedCowboyBoots · 24/08/2019 19:01

We went out the next day after going home. Wanted to make the most of paternity leave!

BikeRunSki · 24/08/2019 19:55

I saw a lady in the supermarket a few years ago with a tiny baby. I asked her how old it was. She looked at her watch and said something like “8 hours.... but these ones need school uniform.. “ and indicated her 3 older children.

EnidButton · 24/08/2019 19:57

7 months later. Pretty sure the baby has been out by now.
