Best and worst household item you have bought

For me the best has to be my Neato robot vac. I love that it takes me two minutes to clear the floor before I take the dog out and come back to every floor crumb and dust free with a simple tap on my phone. The most pointless has to be the Karcher window vac, I don't clean windows often enough to make it worthwhile and tbh I can clean them just as well without it and do because I forget to charge it up

I love my window vac for cleaning condensation in the car window on cold days! Saves waiting for the car heaters to do it, or any smears left from a cloth! But my favourite is my dishwasher ❤️

Deadringer · 25/01/2019 11:53

Dishwasher, 100%.

Deadringer · 25/01/2019 11:55

oooh don't have a worst, will have to think about it.

xWallToWallBastardsx · 25/01/2019 13:03

Dishwasher. I had to choose between that and a tumble dryer. It was an easy choice.

Worst was le creuset stove top kettle. Took fucking 25 mins to boil and went rusty within weeks.

BillywigSting · 25/01/2019 13:08

Best is tumble dryer (don't have a dishwasher). Literally life changing. It's a cheap as chips £50 vented one too but it actually gets stuff properly dry (you just turn the dial for how many minutes you want it to go for. It doesn't beep incessantly at you when it's done. It's great)

Worst is probably a breville one cup. Fine if you are making a mug of tea for one person but a total ball ache for everything else. Thankfully it gave up the ghost last night and we have a proper kettle again. It doesn't even take any longer to boil if you just put as much water as you need in it rather than filling it right up. And it's far quieter.

JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 · 25/01/2019 13:20

oh god the breville one cup kettle - why i considered that to be a good idea purchase I dont know one cup of water is spat at you and if your lucky you'll remember to use the correct size cup or it spills over!

best my slow cooker

BillywigSting · 25/01/2019 13:33

And the drip tray that forever needs cleaning! And the splashes of water all over the counter.

Absolute pile of shite

sheldonstwin · 25/01/2019 13:51

The best thing I ever bought was my Miele vacuum cleaner, it is now in it's 11the year hope I'm not tempting fate

Sorry to say but the worst in terms of not worth the money spent (in my opinion) is probably my Dyson airwrap.

sheldonstwin · 25/01/2019 13:52

Actually my Miele vacuum cleaner is now 13 years old!

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 25/01/2019 13:57

The worst was a Shark vacuum recently; we have pets and it was one of those "it's amazing for pets" adverts that convinced me and two months later it's in the garage in the "shite I shouldn't have bought" pile.

The best is probably the steam mop. We have a new puppy and when he started toilet training it was amazing for getting the floor super clean in just minutes.

MommOfTwo · 28/01/2019 09:28

Worst would be the coffeemaker we got last blackfriday and the best would be our roomba vacuum. It's amazing how this little robot actually saved my energy every time it runs. I just reach for my phone and let it run. Though I cannot entirely say it's as good as the upright vacs.

DustyMaiden · 28/01/2019 09:33

Best Tumbledrier that reduces ironing or dishwasher. Don’t have a worst, I like the one cup.

Cookit · 28/01/2019 09:44

My steam cleaner is the worst.

I was just so excited to use it but so disappointed. For one, it has too many ends so you can’t just whip it out to clean quickly. It also has a habit of triggering the fuse box in 80% of the plugs I try it in, which if I’d known that I obviously would not have bought. And then also it does seem to work in that what I steam clean looks damp and is extremely hot but it hasn’t got rid of any kind of dirt or stain.

On the other hand I love my Karcher window vac. Used it on windows a few times but mainly used it on glass table tops and things, it was the only thing to get rid of streaks and clean in a few seconds. Don’t use it in the new house really as we don’t have so many glass things anymore.

Truckingonandon · 28/01/2019 09:47

Spray mop is fab.

Steam mops are over-rated. They leave smears and just push shit around.

Garment steamer is a bit of a novelty gimmicky thing but is pretty effective.

Cheese slicer is amazing 😁

buckeejit · 28/01/2019 09:50

Worst - steam mop. Why? So rubbish & barely hot.

Best - electric hot water bottle, instant pot, echo dots, (link them to smart plugs & use them as intercoms round house)

CigarsofthePharoahs · 28/01/2019 10:24

Instant pot. It's brilliant, but then you all know that!
Worst - Kenwood bread maker. You had to watch it the whole time while it was mixing the dough or just wouldn't mix properly and you'd end up with John Merrick bread. Then you'd have to spend ages levering the stupid mixing flappy thing out the bottom of the loaf.
Too much faff for not very good bread.

BlindAssassin1 · 28/01/2019 11:10

Second the Kenwood breadmaker - rubbish. The Panasonic is much better especially for gluten free loaves, which is a dark to get right.

I loved the steam mop for the first few months. Got the moldy grouting to a better, though not perfect, condition. And it is excellent at freshening up the drains. But its gathered a lot of dust lately. Its cumbersome and scrubby brush tool which I used the most wore down quickly. It also takes forever to heat up now. Maybe new versions are better.

Jens303 · 28/01/2019 11:13

Best would have to be dishwasher or Roomba vacuum cleaner (she's a member of the family) also love my egg lollipop maker & toaster

Worst probably George Forman Grill or microwave egg poacher

Holidayshopping · 28/01/2019 11:17

Best-spray mop. I use it daily.

Worst-cafetière. Too much of a faff!

I want a roomba though!

YouCanCallMeJodieWho · 28/01/2019 12:33

A washing machine's pretty fundamental!

WatcherOfTheNight · 28/01/2019 13:01

Best is my bean to cup machine. I've tried so many bad coffee machines ,all disappointed me .
Then I bought a bean to cup machine with a tube attachment that sucks up the milk & froths it as it's going into the cup ,bloody brilliant !

Worst ,electric mash maker ,unfortunately no lightly whipped buttery goodness ...ends up like a gummy glue Envy

oopslateagain · 28/01/2019 13:05

Best - my clothes steamer. I have shit wrists and can't manage an iron, the steamer is amazing. Even has an adapter that does knife-edge creases on shirt sleeves.

Worst is either the OneCup that grew green mould inside that couldn't be reached to clean out, or the fantastic electronic mincer that got used twice, gunked up both times, took for ever to clean, and has lived in the back of the cupboard for three years now.

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 28/01/2019 13:18

Worst is the Neato vac. I’d love to love it, but we have too many bits of furniture that it can’t get round or under, and too high a likelihood that a DC has left a hair band/ bit of Lego / etc around. Also my hair clogs it in seconds. My handheld Dyson is much much better.

Best is my three-compartment bin. One for general, one for recycling, one for food, all neatly together. It gets more compliments than I ever could have imagined 😂

Notwiththeseknees · 28/01/2019 13:29

My Instant Pot - I take it away with me! My bean to cup coffee machine, that comes too if it's a long trip. My Karcher window cleaner £2 in a charity shop. I love it, but I don't take it on holiday Grin

JessieMcJessie · 28/01/2019 13:54

A spreader knife for spreading butter on toast and sandwiches. It has a wide spatula-type blade and is serrated on one side to cut the sandwich. Life-changing. I can’t believe I spent 30 years spreading butter with a normal table knife!
