Best and worst household item you have bought

For me the best has to be my Neato robot vac. I love that it takes me two minutes to clear the floor before I take the dog out and come back to every floor crumb and dust free with a simple tap on my phone. The most pointless has to be the Karcher window vac, I don't clean windows often enough to make it worthwhile and tbh I can clean them just as well without it and do because I forget to charge it up

Best is thermomix. Use it every day, love the fact it's multifunctional. Expensive but worth it.
I hate dishwashers. By the time you've rinsed stacked run it and put away, you may as well have done it all yourself.

whenthewhistleblows · 28/01/2019 22:00

Also Miele tumble dryer and vacuum cleaner - fantastic - still going strong after years. (Agree that Henry just falls over. Stupid Henry). All my white goods would be miele if I could afford it.

In terms of value for money - a massive no-name slow cooker from Tesco for £16.

(Tefal) steam generator iron also great - massively reduces ironing time. Kitchen aid mixer is a ‘nice to have’.

HarrySnotter · 28/01/2019 22:02

Best: Instant Pot
Worst: Steam cleaner. Utter shite.

whenthewhistleblows · 28/01/2019 22:03

Ive been flirting with a tefal actifry after my brother said they make amazing roast potatoes - I’m not ready to commit yet though.

whenthewhistleblows · 28/01/2019 22:05

I am definitely put off buying a steam mop after this thread but am going to window shop instant pots and thermomixes!

treaclesoda · 28/01/2019 22:07

I liked my steam mop. But not enough to want to replace it when it stopped working.

BagofTeeth · 28/01/2019 22:25

Best: my OneCup machine. I have weakness in my arms though so I've dropped kettles containing boiling water at times so it's much safer for me to use. I just use a jug if I need the water for anything else (the one annoyance I have with it is that you can't set the amount of water you want so until they do one with that feature I'll use my measuring jug).

Worst: it's a toss up between the steam mop that just spurted water all over the floor then moved it around a bit, or the air fryer which was actually a halogen oven and not any better than my normal fan oven.

Girlking · 28/01/2019 22:29

My handheld Dyson which my sons bought me last Christmas, it has completely changed my life .

punishmepunisher · 28/01/2019 22:32

God these threads always cost me so much money.

Gingerkittykat · 28/01/2019 22:36

Worst: Steam cleaner, too heavy, ran out of steam too quickly and just generally rubbish.

Best: Henry Hoover, after going through numerous vacs (including a dyson animal) this is amazing. A real work horse and no problems with it after around 3 years use.

This thread has made me realise robot lawnmowers exist and I'm now away to research them!

Toddlerteaplease · 28/01/2019 22:37

Best; dyson cordless, really is life changing.
Worst, steam mop. Still had to sweep, mop the get rid of the tide marks left by the mop.

itbemay1 · 28/01/2019 22:38

Gtec cordless air ram for pets. Game changer

Steam mop - shite

NotTheQueen · 29/01/2019 00:12

Best:
Dyson Airwrap - makes my thick frizzy hair looked groomed
Dyson Hairdryer - hair is dry in 5mins
Slow cooker - I’ve got two!
Miele cat and dog hoover - I actually brought it for myself for my 40th Grin

Worst;
steam mop - husband thought it would be wonderful, I’ve used it twice, he’s used it once
Cloud nine hair straighteners - kept switching off every second stroke, felt cheap, like plastic tat
George Forman - four years and still not actually used it
Instant Pot - made a cheesecake in it, but otherwise my slow cooker beats it hands down

Beeziekn33ze · 29/01/2019 01:14

Worst is Lidl stick blender which is too heavy to lift. The only time I used it sauce splashed everywhere. 🙄
Best are food processor DS gave me years ago and the dishwasher I wasn't sure I needed. I love that dishwasher!

BartonHollow · 29/01/2019 01:21

Best Instant Pot for sure

I'm sure theirs more useless ones I've had than this but biggest waste of money I think is Tassimo

Pods are expensive

First one got infested with fruit flies and then a healthcare professional advised me against using it because the pods are packed with fat and sugar.

It's stood idle since.

BartonHollow · 29/01/2019 01:22

Oh and I ❤️ my One Cup Breville maligned above by another poster Grin - it's perfect for my needs

MissLadyM · 29/01/2019 01:35

I've just bought a Russel Hobbs steam mop & it's life changing! It's light, heats up in seconds, has a long cord and steams my floors beautifully in no time! The worst is any coffee machine. My Dolce Gusto went rusty and leaked. The drinks are really unhealthy!

Pinkbells · 29/01/2019 01:39

Recent purchases Bialetti induction hob expresso maker & Shark hoover. Love those. Thinking of the Karcher window cleaner but seeing a lot of disappointments about it on here!

Adversecamber22 · 29/01/2019 01:41

Best
An over priced cheese knife.
A bean to cup coffee machine with all bells and whistles

Worst
A salad spinner

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 29/01/2019 01:42

Agree my steam mop is shite, heavy, cumbersome, leaves floor all streaky and does not actually remove any dirt, worst buy ever. Best Buy is my Gtech cordless vacuum and hand held cordless vacuum, just brilliant.

budgetneeded · 29/01/2019 01:55

Worst, a very expensive Bron metal mandoline. I couldn’t figure out the positioning and the blades looked both scary and dull.
Best the cheap hand held Starfrit mandoline.
I hate my little useless dyson hand held vac, love my meile canister.

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 29/01/2019 01:57

Best my sodastream, love it. Worse steam mop, been used once in two years

buckeejit · 29/01/2019 07:33

@NotTheQueen I feel the need to convert you on the instant pot. Do you like risotto or macaroni & cheese? These have been enough to make me love it but I've not explored all its wonder yet!

Karcher-I'm also considering. They became a 'thing' after I had researched window cleaning & bought a professional set. Still worth getting an 'ettore' golden glove thing, (hot water & a squirt of washing up liquid & line of vinegar-give it a rub & cleans great), before squeeging or karchering off.

Also, latex pillows - I adore them. And a pure goose down duvet.

Also neroli essential oil - had it in my oil burner the last couple of days & everyone says it smells like a spa.

buckeejit · 29/01/2019 07:34

Meant to say - I'm considering the karcher to suck up wet after mopping laminate floor!

Tara336 · 29/01/2019 10:16

Worst buy has to be the cordless Dyson overpriced and constantly cutting out,

Best Buy Alexa we use it should much more then we imagined.

We have the one cup thing DP loves it I’m indifferent to it, stem mop we had was great but in our new home it’s a pain as needs a plug and not all round ms have them in the right places
