Genuine question!..,, How much do you fart?!

I’m wondering if there’s something wrong with me, or my diet!

I seem to (or it feels like) I just need to fart ALL the time!..... Like for most of the day I feel them coming and then I am holding them in.

I have a fairly normal balanced diet, don’t eat much junk, maybe a choc bar or packet of crisps once or twice a week. Bread maybe once a fortnight. Don’t eat ready meals. Take out maybe once a couple of months.

Is farting regularly through the day normal?

I fart loads before my period. Other than that I'm fairly average, I think. Although colds give me really stinky silent farts. The period farts are rather loud.

I fart loads. I'm trying to keep a good diary atm to see if I can identify what is the culprit, but haven't spotted a pattern yet. I'm starting to think I'll need to try the low fodmap thing for a while.

I'm on various meds most of which have excess gas as a side effect.

I thought I was the only one! When I think about it I have been like this since I was a child. Nowadays it's just constant especially at night time. My dh says I'm like a broken winded horse. A fart with each step I take.
I bent over in a shop the other day to look at something and a fart escaped without any warning. I just continued as if nothing had happened.

TheDogAteMySock · 24/01/2019 22:48

Ahhh my people! I too am a farting machine. It was horrific when I was pregnant, I couldn't bear to be near myself some days. Before I was pregnant, I was a normal, mild, occasional farter, now years later I am a wild, often uncontrollable, wind machine. I dread getting older, as I fear I will be an old lady who farts with every step :(

MinorMorris · 24/01/2019 22:57

Generally not much. My diet has not been great since having my DD, but one bonus is that less fibre = fewer farts for me. I am now trying to eat healthier, and the fart ratio has gone up massively. Today I am farting like a racehorse because I ate chickpeas. They're the worst for wind IME.

CountFosco · 24/01/2019 23:00

I don't fart I burp. DH farts regularly and noisily and claims he never burps. He seems to think farting is better than burping. I disagree. I never thought I'd end up arguing the relative merits of farting vs burping with my husband. I think the romance may be dead!

Georgianfairy · 24/01/2019 23:15

Oats give me dreadful wind so it may be the porridge.

I am going to have to give fodmap a go, I definitely have some kind of intolerance as I am almost constantly bloated, windy and my bowels are often unruly Confused

TinklyLittleLaugh · 24/01/2019 23:24

I actually hardly ever fart but I live in a household of people with dodgy digestive systems.

Main triggers for them are dairy and onions.

HelloDarlin · 24/01/2019 23:28

I don’t have the power to hold them in anymore. Same with wee!

Waspnest · 24/01/2019 23:53

I fart if I eat chips (or any kind of potato/fat combo really) or curry. I think I'd be fine if I lived on salad.

justasking111 · 25/01/2019 09:09

When I stand up after lolling on the sofa for a bit, bending over, some foods. Had three kids, down below is pretty shot these days. Worse since I had my gallbladder removed I think
