Counties that aren’t racist.

Just been reading the thread about living in Australia and how racist they are now and obviously us and the States are always in the firing line.
So which countries do you consider non racist. Possibly Brazil?

Laughing at the post about Australia, DH (an Australian) went to a catholic school, so I’m pretty sure religious schools exist, no racism in the police? Do you think domestic violence within the aboriginal community is investigated thoroughly?
Some friends of mine recently came back from Aus, the woman is SE Asian and they were racially abused in the street more than once & so badly at an Aussie rules game that they left. I would say racism is alive, well and out in the open in Australia.

KatherinaMinola · 23/01/2019 20:40

You've never been to Moulsecoomb then, I take it, OP? Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 23/01/2019 20:40

I live in Essex age I think it's s very racist county. Massive leave vote and strong UKIP presence would seem to confirm that.

And yes West Midlands is a county. A jolly fine one.

KatherinaMinola · 23/01/2019 20:41

Kent is also very strong for BNP and UKIP.

Bumblebee39 · 23/01/2019 20:42

Sorry yes "indigenous"

On the other hand, all the illegal immigrants who come into Australia being kept on that island? I feel like that's a little bit Hmm and current as far as I'm aware

RogersVideo · 23/01/2019 20:43

All the countries I have learned/read about seem to have problems with xenophobia and/or racism, so I imagine it's just a general human nature thing (your group vs outsiders) and will be found in all countries.

Random anecdote. When I was in high school in the US, I would sometimes chat to a Mexican girl in one of my classes. She said that before her family came to the US (not sure what age she was), she had no idea that people of other races existed. I have always wondered how common this is around the world, just having no idea at all.

nancy75 · 23/01/2019 20:44

And most Australians I’ve spoken to think they have a massive immigration problem & the govt isn’t nearly strict enough - they are happy with shoving them on a island

BoatyMcBoatFace2 · 23/01/2019 20:47

Can you link the Australia thread OP, please?

lovely36 · 23/01/2019 20:52

For everyone saying England isn't racist I'd say otherwise. I moved to England two years ago from America. However im Mexican/Spanish. Just lived in America my whole life so I have an American accent. I have been called a "white trash american." While walking down the street talking to dh who's English. Once I asked a man if he knew where the toilet was. (He was a worker at the hospital." He laughed when he heard m speak and said "Americans." People constantly look down on me it seems. And I'm not even american I'm Spanish and mexican lol so yeah England is racist.

CoffeeRunner · 23/01/2019 20:55

Staffordshire is more racist than Derbyshire from my experience! I live in Staffordshire. It gets embarrassing at times. In diversity terms we are way down the list.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 23/01/2019 20:56

American isn’t a race - some people just don’t like Americans (probably trump related).

BartonHollow · 23/01/2019 20:56

Chortle at Australia not being racist

My sister has had British friends of BAME backgrounds working in healthcare emigrate to Australia and leave within 12 months because the racism they experienced was intense and direct

As to my earlier comment I just picked two counties at random. I have no idea whether Derbyshire is racist or not, I've only been there 3 times so...I don't really know how to respond to the Hmm

CoffeeRunner · 23/01/2019 20:58

However I work in the West Midlands & that is probably better. More used to different cultures on the whole.

Not everyone though. I don’t think you’ll ever get that!

Parthenope · 23/01/2019 20:59

Doesn’t being called a ‘white trash American’ suggest it’s unlikely to be a racially-motivated insult, given that you’re Latina?

Madmarchpear · 23/01/2019 20:59

Staffs definitely racist. Stoke especially so.

Parthenope · 23/01/2019 21:00

Sorry, that was to lovely.

Bumblebee39 · 23/01/2019 21:00

@BartonHollow

It was a jestful Hmm as I don't think I've been to Derbyshire or Staffordshire ever
I literally had nothing to go on and was just being silly

Bumblebee39 · 23/01/2019 21:02

Sounds as though I'm wrong anyway Blush

BartonHollow · 23/01/2019 21:03

Oh I'm quite relieved @Bumblebee39 !

With the Hmm face it's hard to know whether you were kidding or

I too was coming along to chat about counties, but I do live in the East of England so have plenty of source material.Grin

In reference to countries, some cultures are more blunt in their communication than others. Honest racism if you like rather than the British version.

Racecardriver · 23/01/2019 21:09

@bumbleebee yes, they’re also being denied proper medical care and (while no one has confirmed it) everyone is pretty sure that some of them are being g sexually abused as well. Nothing to do with race though and everything to do with immigration status. Immigration has always been an issue in Australia. Asylum seeking has been a long standing issue. When numbers started picking up again around 2010 politicians started freaking out and went completely overboard. Most Australians are extremely unhappy with the situation but no politician wants to deal with a boat crisis again so they are all maintaining the status quo. Really awful.

Racecardriver · 23/01/2019 21:11

@bartonhollow it may have been xenophobia rather than racism. Australia is very xenophobic in the sense that immigrants are expect to integrate immediately. Or maybe they were in a back water? Rural localities have more racists/undesirables of various sorts than cities.

Racecardriver · 23/01/2019 21:12

@nancy75 Shock you should drop your friends. that’s horrible.

Racecardriver · 23/01/2019 21:13

Also as above religious schools are not state funded and aren’t used as a white middle class filter the way they are in Britain.

nancy75 · 23/01/2019 21:15

Racecardriver I should drop my friends? Because they were racially abused in Australia? I’m not sure I follow your logic?
