I'm an idiot. Just made a chilli with....

Curry powder instead of chilli powder. No wonder it wasn't as nice as usual.

Now my mouth is burning 30mins after finishing it .

It was so bland when I tasted it threw a loaf more in. Confused

Total brain fart. Dp came thru a minute a go to say it might have been a better chilli if I'd actually used chilli powder Blush
I'd left the curry powder out.

Wtf is wrong with me!

It happens. I once put orange squash in pasta sauce instead of olive oil. No one noticed Smile

FuckBrussel · 20/01/2019 19:07

Grin Don't fret - my DH made a cake once and used powdered garlic instead of ginger.

The engineers he works with still wolfed it, and even asked him to make another one...

maxelly · 20/01/2019 19:10

Grin DH once had a brain fart and added scotch bonnet chilli and kidney beans to the spag bol he was making! The spaghetti was already on so we ate it - kids called it jerk pasta! It's not a mistake, it's fusion! Wink

Friend of mine was making a cup of coffee at the same time as putting gravy granules into a casserole to thicken it - well, that was the plan.
When she took a sip of gravy, she realised what she'd done... Coffee in the casserole, gravy in her mug! I don't think it was a huge success, she didn't try to repeat it!

FurryDogMother · 20/01/2019 19:18

My friend was cooking for my Dad, from my freezer (Dad needs carers etc. she was looking after him whilst I was away), and phoned me to ask what could possibly be wrong with the tomato sauce she'd added to his spag bol. It was melon + Midori granita, was what was wrong. She told him it was 'Caribbean', and he quite enjoyed it :) Result.

GreenTulips · 20/01/2019 19:20

Might have been the loaf

Soubriquet · 20/01/2019 19:20

My mum made my dad a coffee once and added orange juice instead of milk... she realised her mistake half way through but couldn’t be bothered to redo the whole thing. So she quietly added milk and didn’t say anything

Dad never murmured a word so obviously couldn’t taste it. She confessed after he finished Grin

rytonsister · 20/01/2019 19:25

Can't say that this "fusion" was a rip roaring success
It wasn't awful but I'd not repeat it!

My dad heard about adding very plan chocolate to chilli in South America. To set the picture hevwas a functioning alcoholic so was pissed a lot. He came in from the pub and my mum was baking chilli con carne. He tipped half a tin of Cadbury’s drinking chocolate in...vile!

Fluffyears · 20/01/2019 19:39

*making not baking

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 20/01/2019 20:37

My cousin got confused about what a clove of garlic was, needless say she nearly killed her dad when she got within breathing distance Grin

SemperIdem · 20/01/2019 20:44

I once, whilst cooking and drinking, chopped up 4 bird eye chil’s for the chilli con carne I was making. Wandered off, drank a bit more wine...and then added another 4, totally forgetting about the first lot.

I like hot food, as did the people I cooked for, but it was right on the edge of edible.

Then there was the time I got a bird eye seed stuck under my eyelid (thought I was going to go blind).

Even worse was the time an ex had cooked with scotch bonnets, and then later we were having foreplay and it became apparent that he had not thoroughly washed his hands after cooking. I thought I was going to have to go to A+E and have my clitoris removed.

Cooking with spices - it can be quite hazardous Grin

My corneas have started itching in sympathy at the thought of a chilli seed UNDER YOUR EYELID!Shock

abbsisspartacus · 20/01/2019 21:05

I slang mine out after I put tcp in it I've still no idea how I did that?

CrochetBug · 20/01/2019 21:11

I was making giant Yorkshires with sausage and mash. Made a jug of onion gravy for DP, DS2 and me, and a mug of veggie gravy for DS1. Figured I may as well make coffee as the kettle was on. Used 2 identical mugs. Big mistake.
Poor DS1 ended up with coffee all over his dinner. I had to rinse the sausages off Envy (Not envy) and gave him mine. Luckily I'd dished his up first!
I ended up with just sausages. DS2 was the only person who offered to share anything else with me!

FinallyHere · 20/01/2019 21:30

This thread is reminding me of the fish pie i made, with icing sugar instead of flour. Nice.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 20/01/2019 21:37

My dad once made me a 'vegetarian crumble'. It had a ratatouille base but he'd used a ready mixed sweet crumble topping...memorable but for the wrong reasons.

DollyRose · 20/01/2019 21:41

Not quite a mistake but I know someone who had caught their partner cheating so baked him a Lovely steak ( dog food) pie. He ate it all and asked for it again the following week as it was so good!

chocoholicanon · 20/01/2019 22:15

Oh reminds me of the time as a teenager putting a pinch of ground white pepper into a chocolate cake instead of a pinch of salt. Crazy that a pinch made the cake taste disgusting that pepper had punch.

Pinkpanther473 · 20/01/2019 22:16

i managed to grill a cake for 45 mins after turning the oven/grill dial a bit further than I meant to
It was a sort of fascinating mess, charred and solid on top and liquid in the middle Grin

VanillaSauce · 20/01/2019 22:44

At the end of a very long shift at a restaurant I worked at, I realised I'd poured chocolate sauce on the lamb shank after it was too late. It was already with the customer and he was halfway through absolutely loving it. He sent back a clean plate and said it was the nicest dish he'd had in years so we put it on the specials board - it became a great seller.

SemperIdem · 20/01/2019 22:46

Mother

The photographs of my eye (that come up annually on my timehop app) are quite a sight to behold!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/01/2019 22:50

I once froze some leftover white wine in the ice cube tray (to use in risotto later).

‘Someone’ called me at work from home to tell me that the orange juice tasted weird. Yes, well it would do with wine ice cubes!

Never an issue now - never any leftover wine to freeze! Cheers!🥂

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 20/01/2019 22:52

Once as a child I was quite poorly and a bit delirious. Mum insisted I eat some of the spag bol she’d made for dinner. I knew something tastes nice sprinkled on top and went searching through the fridge and cupboards... garlic salt is not it!! (Parmesan is what I actually wanted!)

Salt in coffee Envy

FreakForHummous · 20/01/2019 23:02

I once mixed up the recipe for batter with sponge whilst making a toad in the hole for my then boyfriend's birthday.

Oddly, he wasn't impressed with the resulting "sausage cake" Blush
