Hey y’all, my sister-in-law is having a baby so I’m gonna be an auntie!! And we’re trying to think of names and we both kind of like the name Beca (not short for Rebecca, just Beca) and of you like it could you give us some middle names!! Thanks❤️❤️

Beca Squeaker?

localfluff · 19/01/2019 06:23

Well that's a yoonique spelling for sure 😂

Isth · 19/01/2019 06:30

Well, it’s spelt wrong and looks wrong (looks like it could be an appliance brand, nef, beca etc) and I do think it’s better to have a proper name on the BC. But Becca is infinitely preferable to Beca, if you must have a NN on the BC.

Beca is an engineering firm. Not a nice name no.
If you name her Rebecca you can shorten it to Beca casually. When she's old enough she'll choose her own shortened version.

jessstan2 · 19/01/2019 06:35

Never come across anyone called 'Beca'. Weird name.
Why can't people call their children ordinary names which will not cause offence, such as Sarah and Rachel, David and Jeremy?

It's beyond me.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 19/01/2019 06:35

Yes, Squeaker would be perfect 🤣 or Beca-Mae, again perfect, timeless in fact

SnuggyBuggy · 19/01/2019 06:37

I'm going to sound a snob but I'm not a fan of putting short versions of names on birth certificates, just use the name Rebecca.

Greyhound22 · 19/01/2019 06:37

Trouble is having a name that's 'kinda fun' might not appeal when she's 42.

BertrandRussell · 19/01/2019 06:44

English speakers will pronounce Beca with a short e. Because that’s how English works. Think “because”, for example. For the sound you want you need Becca.

LadyGAgain · 19/01/2019 06:48

Just spell it Becca. And then you have a lovely name.

bookworm14 · 19/01/2019 06:50

Pitch Perfect fans, I assume?

Cookit · 19/01/2019 06:57

We kinda like the idea of the nickname for a name like I have some friends names Maggie, not Margaret and Coco not short for anything idk it’s kinda fun.

Maggie isn’t spelt Magy is something strange though is it? Just use Becca, that’s how you spell the nickname Becca.

CrazyCrunk · 19/01/2019 07:07

How about Rih as a middle name, as in Rihanna?

Or even Rih as first name, Becca as middle name?

haverhill · 19/01/2019 07:11

Isn’t it a brand of make-up?
I’d use Rebecca and have nn Becca.

SnuggyBuggy · 19/01/2019 07:12

Think it's also a brand of baby carriers

Bouchie · 19/01/2019 07:17

I have a badly spelt name. it's embarrassing.

ClaireAnne1976 · 19/01/2019 07:20

Sorry it’s horrendous. Give the poor child a real name not a kind of fun nickname.

TinTinBanana · 19/01/2019 07:21

I do like Becca as a nn. So I think it would be ok as a name. Though I prefer Rebecca.

Mamimawr · 19/01/2019 07:24

Are you Welsh? Beca is a Welsh name.

Beca
Beca comes from the Biblical name, Rebeca, but may be better known in Wales because of the Rebecca Riots in the nineteenth century

Rockbird · 19/01/2019 07:28

I think you and your SIL are very silly. Unless you're Welsh (just spotted post above!)

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/01/2019 07:29

Reading your posts, you sound REALLY young - no-one with an ounce of grown-up empathy picks a child's name because it's "kinda fun". That poor child has to live with the consequences of that for life.

Why don't you pick a name that is fit for purpose and won't lumber some poor kid with a lifetime of explaining how to spell their name and rolling their eyes/cringing with embarrassment about their mother and aunt. My ex-BIL has had to spend his life explaining that his mother simply didn't know how to spell the name she picked for him, and your poor niece faces the same future.

You can pick a "kinda fun" babygro?

Hoppahouse · 19/01/2019 07:29

I like Becca as a shorten for Rebecca it Rebekah.
People won't know whether to say Becca or 'Beaker' from the Beca spelling.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/01/2019 07:35

As a pp says, it's a engineering firm though.

So you could branch out from Beca to other possible names if you're an engineering fan.

A quick Google suggests:
Arcadis
Sweco
Arup
Black & Veatch

All grand baby names, I'm sure you'll agree.
