What item of clothing has my mother bought me?!

NC - lighthearted. Disclaimer: I am grateful she has sent a present.

Normally I don't get a present from mother on my birthday but alas one has arrived (we live in different countries)

On the customs label it says 'Clothing'

In the past I have been given some rather hideous clothing from her including a massive purple fleece (it's not cold here), glitter tops (not my style) and endless sweaters with tartan (we are Scottish but there is such a thing as too much tartan).

I'm a jeans and a plain t-shirt kinda woman who is turning 35......Opening the present in about 10 hours.....

What's in the package?!

I'm intrigued. I can't stand those wolf fleece monstrosities. I cringe when I see people wearing them. My DM is actually quite good at assessing my clothes style but one year I commented on her jumper being nice ( it was nice BUT for her not ME!!!! For my birthday a few weeks later she bought me three of them in diff colours. I kept them in a cupboard for a while and then gave them away to charity. Now I try to curb my compliments to ensure the tone implies that she looks good in such and such. Hopefully, the tone implies that I don't want one.

OP Why are you opening the present in 10 hours? I am impatient, I won't to know what it is now.

My guess, the same pyjamas, as in exactly the same, (although if she is like my mother she will have got the wrong size even though she was with you when you bought them).

I am guessing she is opening it 10 hours as that is the morning of her birthday? She is probably in a different time zone given she is not in the UK.

Diefenbakersdayoff · 16/01/2019 12:06

Yeah i am waiting for DC and my DP is in bed. She too is very eager to see the item. She has fond memories of the time the massive purple fleece was the present.

Actually I best go to bed so I'll log on in the morning after opening. Really hope it was worth starting the thread Grin thanks for all the replies!

I would say pjs too as my mum always gets me or maybe some type of polo neck top those seem to be in alot of stores .

WhatchaMaCalllit · 16/01/2019 12:10

If it's for your birthday I'd go with a scarf & maybe a pair of gloves (could be a lightweight type rather than the fluffy ones you'd wear in deep winter), otherwise it could be a pack of thongs in a size that you'll never wear (think 18-20 when you're a size 10) and therefore can't return.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 16/01/2019 12:12

My favourite presents from my Mum; white crocheted trousers and matching top, a beige linen dress that I can only describe aso a marquee in size 18 when I was a size 12 but pregnant and an artisan knitted shawl cardigan held together by a huge ceramic broach with intentional holes all.over other that made it look like I had attacked it with a pair of scissors, I wear it at Halloween!!

WildCherryBlossom · 16/01/2019 13:16

Oooh @Quirkyturkey I have a faux leather handbag in yellow. A gift from my mother too. Just like the faux leather handbag in teal that she gave me two years previously.

My guess is that this is big fluffy comedy slippers that look like bunnies.

ILoveChristmasLights · 16/01/2019 13:40

apologies in advance if it's a completely normal item without fluorescent colours, annoying bows, itchy material, open necks

Somehow I get the feeling we won’t be disappointed 🤣.

Anyway, I do love a surprise 🎉

The book? Trinity & Susannah (?). Something to suggest you need to wear the pretty blouse 😊

NicoleNoPants · 16/01/2019 13:41

One of those stretchy flower scarfs in rainbow! I’ll try and find a picture

A diary (paper, book one) and a scarf.

UnderHerEye · 16/01/2019 13:53

Clothing: Blouse with one of those pussy- bow ties on the neck.

Book: an Agatha Raisin book.

RebootYourEngine · 16/01/2019 13:56

Fully admit this is a place mark.

AgathaRaisinsCat · 16/01/2019 14:00

Can you feel anything through the packaging? Buttons or zips?

almutasakieun · 16/01/2019 14:02

I will bet my welly that it's a negligee........... Honest to god, I got one from my sister. Your mother is probably thinking, 'if I was young again' and she's bought you a sexy nighty (purple) with a sort of slinky gown to go over it. My mother also buys me similar shit!

almutasakieun · 16/01/2019 14:05

My mother knows that she never gets it right for me, so bless her, she probably thinks back to what she'd have wanted at my age. And I end up with negligees. She also consults with my sister, who also can't buy for me, because I'm apparently impossible to buy for, so, yup, two negligees I got one year! FFS!!!!

EnidButton · 16/01/2019 14:11

Definitely pjs or a thin dressing gown. With alpacas on them. I think I saw some in M&S (I liked them).

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 16/01/2019 14:32

A naice jumper. I get one every year, usually twice as my birthday falls in November

GummyGoddess · 16/01/2019 14:40

Something ruffley like that pink dress. Perhaps bold colours or frumpily patterned.

lumpsofitroundtheback · 16/01/2019 14:49

Tartan slippers and matching bedsocks. With or without alpaca embellishments.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 16/01/2019 14:59
