Yesterday, i missed simon mayo and his chat.

OP posts:

I listened to Zoe, not my cup of tea, never been a fan of Sara and really don't like Jo so the changes aren't for me

HalleLouja · 16/01/2019 07:05

I did like listening to Trevor Nelson the other evening. I think he’s new too.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 16/01/2019 07:06

Zoe is OK but I'd have preferred Sara on brekky. Sara's evening slot is a bit odd; she needs a foil for chatting and doesn't seem to have that. Don't listen to Jo but it seems like she's back in her 'cool new music' slot.

Nnnnnineteen · 16/01/2019 07:29

Alwaus enjoyed Jo's show, so pleased to have that back. Zoe whispers a lot, which gives me the rage and keeps getting the public involved a la ken Bruce, which is just cringeworthy. Agree Sara seems a bit lonely and not yet as funny as she was on her 10pm slot.

sushisuperstar · 22/01/2019 23:24

Sara would be more suited to brekky. Zoe is unbearable. Although anyone is better than Steve Wright - hopefully someone will replace him 🤯

AlexandraPeppernose · 23/01/2019 07:06

Love Sara. Can't stand Zoe.

DearGoodnessIsThatTheTime · 23/01/2019 08:11

I listened to Zoe - but had to switch it off - I felt she was shouting a lot in an over exuberant way.
It’s the morning, I’m not ready for that! It was too much.
Haven’t listened to the others.

HamiltonCork · 23/01/2019 08:18

I wish Sara had got the breakfast show.

Don’t mind Zoe (anything is better than Chris Evans).
Jo works much better in her evening slot.

Shahlalala · 23/01/2019 08:25

Also love Sara and thought she was better on the morning slot when she covered it. Why didn't they pick her for it?! Unless she didn’t want it.
Like Jo too.
Zoe.... I’m trying but just not finding it that good so far. To be fair she must feel a lot of pressure and I think you can hear that in the way she presents.

newcupcake · 23/01/2019 08:28

I miss Chris 😭 totally agree with pp's that Sara is better suited to breakfast Zoe is trying too hard. Have always found Jo irritating even on Radio 1 she's like your mum trying to be down with the cool kids it's so cringey.

booellesmum · 23/01/2019 08:31

I have downloaded the Virgin app. on my phone and followed Chris. I like Zoe but can't listen to her in the morning.
Still with radio 2 for Sara on the drive home.

TwitterQueen1 · 23/01/2019 08:42

On Monday Sara was asking people to phone in to say whether or not they would eat leftover food from plates that weren't their own children's. Utter utter inanity and crap. This is not what I want on drivetime. I miss Simon.

PuppyMonkey · 23/01/2019 08:49

I think Sara is ok, but haven’t warmed to Zoe just yet. She’s better than Chris Evans but that isn’t saying much.

I’m interested in Simon Mayo’s announcement that he’s joining a new light classical music station in March - doing 10am till 1pm. It’s goibg to be entertainment and chat too, bit of a change from Radio 3 and Classic FM. I’m a big Ken Bruce fan tbh, but I’d switch off Jeremy Vine for Mayo any day.

Just proves though that Simon didn’t really just “want to do other stuff” like he said. He wanted to escape Jo Whiley.Grin

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 23/01/2019 08:52

I'm so glad Chris has gone I would have been happy with Mr Blobby.

But I'm liking Zoe. She just needs time to settle in. Early days.

MamaLovesMango · 23/01/2019 08:56

I’m not warming to Zoe either. I think she was good when covering for Ken but she’s not got nearly enough to say or enough energy for the breakfast show. I would’ve preferred Sara.
Sara at drovetome is a bit odd. It’s decomitey not quite right yet.
I think Jo is back where she belongs and it’s working out great although I don’t always like to listen to that show.

Really would like to see Steve Wright replaced. He gets on my nerves. The Jeremy Vine Bigot Show just makes me shout and I have to turn it off. Not so many bigots seems to phone in when the guy that covers for him is on though.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 23/01/2019 08:57

Sara would have been a much better choice for the breakfast show - she seems natural and funny. She seems like she'd be a good mate to go for a drink with.

Zoes is irritating to listen to. As a PP said, she's a bit over exuberant in a fake way, and does really annoying loud intakes of breath midway through talking.

Jo, although not my favourite by a long way, at least knows her music and can play some decent stuff

Mind you, anyone is better than Mary Anne Hobbs who now has the mid morning slot on 6 Music. I can't listen to her at all - so dull and wet sounding.

PuppyMonkey · 23/01/2019 09:01

Yes, Zoe’s delivery has always been a bit odd. Really gushing and stuttering and nervous. Sorry, I know it’s not nice to criticise the way people talk, but when that’s literally your job, I feel it’s acceptable. Grin

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 23/01/2019 09:05

I think the problem is that once you hear something (like the loud, quick intake of breath) you can't unhear it and it becomes annoying.

They do so much talking on radio these days that a presenter has to have a voice you can listen to.

WutheringFrights · 23/01/2019 09:08

I think they are all perfectly suited to the slots, Zoe is calmer and quieter than Chris which is great for getting the kids ready in the morning and she doesn’t constantly talk about herself or get overly enthastic about a subject and witter on about it loudly all morning. Sara is lovely and fun to listen to which is great for the drive time show when I’m driving home after a long tiring day and finally jo should never have been taken off that slot - it is perfect for her and I really enjoy listening to her in the evening, she is so knowledgeable about the bands and the people she is interviewing and I felt that when she was moved to drive time she was vying for air time!
I’m really happy with the new schedule

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 23/01/2019 09:14

Kem Bruce is my favourite at the moment. He's calm and easy going and just familiar and easy to slip into, like a pair of old slippers.. sorry Ken Blush.

No one will ever beat Terry Wogan though. He's missed very much in our house. No one can match his warmth and humour Sad

DearGoodnessIsThatTheTime · 23/01/2019 09:19

I don’t find Zoe calm and quiet, that’s the problem. I just find the experience of listening quite jarring in the morning

Agree about Terry Wogan, a voice that’s calm and reassuring and gently funny would be lovely in the morning.

BartholinsSister · 23/01/2019 09:19

I think Zoe is doing fine, but why do they persist with the Thought for the Day nonsense. Surely our national radio station shouldn't be a platform for religious loons.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 23/01/2019 09:19

Zoe is not my favourite, I also would have preferred Sara to get the morning show, however there is actual content in the show now....information, to and fro conversation, genuine interest in other people and not the bloody shiteshow of self promotion, self aggrandisement and utter bollocks that is Chris Evans

have you seen the advert for his virgin show?....jesus what a fucking rip off that is.

Haven't heard much of Sara in the evenings but what I have heard has made me laugh.... have we got enough cheese for spaghetti bolognaise? and a leather snood???

and Jo just went back to her old fabulous show, again, it's not a slot i get to hear much but I liked her when out collecting chiddlers and she sounds happy again.

MamaLovesMango · 23/01/2019 09:28

Aw I like Thought of the Day.

flojo73 · 23/01/2019 09:39

I think the new shows are great, brilliant to have an increased female presence on R2.
I think Zoe Ball is doing a fabulous job! (I always have the radio on in the morning, not so much later in the day)
