Anyone else never ever dyed their hair?

Greys are starting to come in so I was thinking about how I'll probably have to start dying it in the next few years. (I know I don't have to, but I don't want to go grey yet.) I have never in my entire life used hairdye, not even a temporary one. My DSis thought that was pretty weird so I am wondering whether anyone else is like me? I've had hairdressers comment on the texture of my "virgin hair" so they must be able to tell.

I once tried Henna, messed it up and never again. Does that count?

Hairdresser would probably comment on my virgin hair if I ever went. It's been years!

DappledThings · 15/01/2019 20:26

I never have. Started going grey over 10 years ago, now a decent smattering.

I toyed with the idea for a bit but realised that there was zero chance I'd keep it up and growing out dyed hair plus greys was definitely going to look worse than just some grey.

sanityisamyth · 15/01/2019 20:27

I've never dyed my hair. It's light brown and naturally stripy so I've never felt the need. I've also never straightened it (hairdressers sometimes do) and I can't remember when I last blow dried it (don't even know where the hair dryer is!)

I've been dyeing mine for years.

It's part of the routine. I don't even think about it.

I do it every three to four weeks in the bath as it's less messy that way. Then use the shower head to rinse off. I watch something on my iPad for the half an hour or so that's it on my bonce.

I haven't been to a hairdresser for decades. My daughter trims it for me and I colour and style it myself.

Of all the many makes I've use over the years I find Schwarzkopf Color Expert is the best. Leaves my hair glossy and shiny and in great condition.

Scotinoz · 15/01/2019 20:45

Me! A new girl cut my hair recently, and I felt a bit weird when she commented on my 'virgin hair'...I was about double her age and quite worldly really, but I felt like a wee girl

TryingToDrinkMoreWater · 15/01/2019 20:58

I have never dyed my hair as I love my natural colour. I am so sad to be going grey and losing my favourite part of my appearance.

Jitters22 · 16/01/2019 01:35

I must own up and say I misread the thread header.

I thought it said anyone else ever dyed their hair?' (I missed the never)

I've never dyed mine either!

onlyoneoftheregimentinstep · 16/01/2019 07:51

In my late 60s now and never dyed my hair. Have some grey, but not much and happy to live with it.

happypotamus · 16/01/2019 07:56

I have never dyed my hair, probably never will. I don't do anything with my hair, just wash it as necessary, brush it once a day, tie it in a bun for work otherwise just leave it down, don't style it, rarely find the time or money to get it cut.

Ragwort · 16/01/2019 07:59

I am totally happy to be grey, I can’t bear the thought of all the effort, not to mention expense, of dyeing your hair. I can only be bothered to go to the hairdressers twice a year for a trim. Very few women in my ‘circle’ of friends dye their hair, we are all grey, but few of us are bothered about appearance apart from being neat and clean.

I did once dye my own hair as a teenager, it was a total disaster and I had to spend £££s at the hairdresser to sort it out.

TeenTimesTwo · 16/01/2019 08:01

Me. have never seen the point. What's wrong with a few grey hairs anyway? Better than going grey 'overnight'.
I'm a great believer that your natural hair colour is the one that goes best with your skin anyway.

Gramgram · 16/01/2019 08:05

I've never used hair dye, I did a skin test once and I'm glad I did as the area went very red and was sore afterwards. So I'm going naturally blonde, or that's what I tell my DGD.

silkpyjamasallday · 16/01/2019 08:08

I've never dyed my hair, parents were very against it and as an adult I realise the expensive and time consuming nature of maintaining dyed hair isn't for me.

spiderlight · 16/01/2019 08:23

I never have either. I've got naturally blonde hair which is the only aspect of my appearance that I like, and it's never occurred to me to change it.

piglet81 · 16/01/2019 08:38

I've never dyed my hair! I quite like my natural colour. There's a part of me that would love to have bright pink or purple hair though, but I've never been brave enough (am very conventional!). Perhaps I'll go wild when I turn 40...

skippy67 · 16/01/2019 09:51

I've never dyed mine. I love my natural colour. I'm starting to get a few greys now, but I'll hold off dyeing and see how it pans out.

Sitranced · 16/01/2019 10:01

I've dyed it loads in the past but stopped several years ago and I've had all the dyed parts cut off so what is left is undyed, very grey hair and even at 34 years young I just don't care. I can't be arsed with the faff anymore, its expensive and the grow out doesn't look good.

Oldraver · 16/01/2019 10:03

I gave once on my teens used one of those wash in things.... it didn't go anything.

I'm currently going grey and not too bothered maybe because I've never been too fussed about my hair

TheFifthKey · 16/01/2019 10:08

39 and only ever used a temporary wash out one/Sun-In as a teen. I have a few greys but my hairdresser told me not to dye it! I like my natural colour although it's a bit "meh" - but I don't want to get on to the dyeing treadmill.

Hotterthanahotthing · 16/01/2019 10:09

I have a good helping if gray hair.I did go for dying as I can't stand the dyed hair with gray parting look. Also my pubes are all white ,not dying them either!

NutellaFitzgerald · 16/01/2019 10:11

Never dyed my hair either but I love my hair colour.

I'm in my forties and have only a few isolated greys so I might change my tune once I lose more of the colour I love.

I reckon not though. Grey hair can be beautiful too if the cut is a good one.

Beerflavourednipples · 16/01/2019 10:15

God I would love to have never dyed my hair! I started with 'Toners' and wella colour mousse when I was about 14, then when I was about 17 the greys started and I have been on a 4 weekly colouring regime ever since really!

underneaththeash · 16/01/2019 10:16

Me neither, I'm 43 and still have very few grey hairs. I think grey hair is really aging so will need to dye it within a couple of years and I'm not looking forward to it at all.

squishee · 16/01/2019 10:19

Have never used a permanent dye, no. Lightening gels / shampoos / conditioners instead.
