Expensive mistakes.

I lusted after a new pushchair for weeks. Didn’t actually need it as DD was happy enough in her travel system but I HAD to have it. DH thought it was a waste of money but I wore him down.
New pushchair is rubbish for winter as no cozy toes and you can’t even buy them in the colour I have. The steering is really bad on it and when it folds down it’s bigger than my pram.
Feels like money down the drain. Please share your expensive mistakes to make me feel better!

Treadmill and running machine.
Make good clothes horses though!!

RogueV · 15/01/2019 17:09

Oh dear
What pushchair is it?

Crumbelina · 15/01/2019 17:13

I'm not very happy with my polished concrete floor in my new kitchen. They're billed as low maintenance but the type of sealer used means that it's susceptible to oil/grease and will stain. And our high shine finish has taken a battering from my toddler's toys which have really scratched it.

£7k it cost. Hope helps. Grin

I think I am about to make one..loop carpet in our extension..we have a cat

mistermagpie · 15/01/2019 17:18

White car. It was more expensive and looked shit unless you had just washed it 30 seconds previously. New car is grey.

CottonSock · 15/01/2019 17:19

painting my lounge and not liking it. Expensive in time more than £

Mudmonster · 15/01/2019 17:20

Dh switched our broadband to BT and didn’t notice that they’d included now tv in the subscription. We have sky so didn’t click that we also had Now. It was costing £40 a month and we didn’t notice for 6 months. I was really pissed off and any savings we’d made by changing to BT was eaten up by the Now TV subscription.

smurfy2015 · 15/01/2019 17:22

Cat beds (note plural) - she has ignored all and scratching posts and prefers a cardboard box and an old carpet tile from 2 houses ago (when I had no cat) weirdo

hendricksy · 15/01/2019 17:36

I've never liked the carpet in my new build house . Cost £4K 😬😬

Littleraindrop15 · 15/01/2019 17:37

Can you not return the item???

Peppersteak · 15/01/2019 18:00

It’s a Silver Cross Reflex so not super expensive but expensive to us!
I can’t return it as I kept using it trying to make myself like it.

isseywithcats · 15/01/2019 18:33

splashed out £200 on a Radley bag because it was for a charity, brand new in box and the first time i actually used it i hated it , far too big and didnt like the way it felt carrying it so sold it on for £60 ouch

SingaSong12 · 15/01/2019 18:36

Quite a few of my clothes which don’t look good on me, though they seemed nice when I tried them and fit when I was thinner or fatter.

prampushingdownthehighst · 15/01/2019 18:55

Yeah...our car
Starts with B and ends in W and I bloody hate it, wished I'd listened to my inner voice but DH was all for it.
Next one...I choose

HildaZelda · 15/01/2019 19:35

@prampushing, what is it about the beemer that you don't like? I'm on my 3rd and don't think I'll ever go back to anything else again.
Never had a problem with any of them.

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 15/01/2019 19:39

I paid a friend who is starting an art business several hundred pounds to paint me a picture. I have loved all her other work and was so excited to see mine. It’s truly hideous and ended up at the tip.

Bertiebitch32 · 15/01/2019 19:59

A bloody horse! Went 50 % on s young horse with my DM when I was young and stupid, I put in the work and paid my full shares of the costs etc. My not so DM sold the horse as we had decided but refused to split the proceeds. I've learnt my lesson 😠

We purchased a £500 pram about 7 years ago, it lasted 3 weeks before the cheap chassis snapped.
I spent about £330 a few years ago on a fantastic shark hoover only for it too completely break , I think it was the motor. Was only a few months old and I found out my gormless DH hadn't filled in the gaurentee as promised and also lost it.
My much loved Nokia copper 8 which I saved for with my stop smoking money at about £500 ish can't remember the precise cost but it lasted about 6 months
Brand new insignia car , not even a few months old and too many major faults. I'm not the luckiest of people Angry

ewenice · 15/01/2019 20:28

light beige carpet in lounge - I have three dogs, not sure what I was thinking really. Spend a fortune on cleaning it.

Imfinehowareyou · 15/01/2019 20:35

£100 for National Trust membership (cheaper deal but you had to pay for the whole year until you could cancel). Went to one place for a couple of hours. Kids hated it. Very expensive afternoon out!

Imfinehowareyou · 15/01/2019 20:36

If that's unclear, we only did that one visit in the whole year.

CoolCarrie · 15/01/2019 20:42

New curtains in our bedroom, can’t stand them, too dark and make the room look much smaller, next time I’ll choose!

DoneLikeAKipper · 15/01/2019 20:43

My engagement/eternity ring. Bought a new one as my fingers became sausages after having a baby, didn’t want anything big/that could scratch or fancy. I’m bloody allergic to it, if I wear it more than a few days it looks like I’ve scalded my finger. I love it, but it doesn’t love me, and spends most of the time looking sad on a shelf.

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 15/01/2019 20:50

Memory foam mattress, the most uncomfortable thing every invented, they're hot and an effort to turn over on, in hindsight why did I want a mattress to remember me? I want it to forget and spring instantly back to shape and not form a dent.

Wooden floor, I fell for the whole craze about 10 years ago because we had dogs and was told it was easy to keep clean.
Rubbish.
Instead of just having to vac which took 5 minutes I had to sweep, sweep under furniture where hair and dust blew, mop then wait for it to dry or the footprints instantly showed.
I hated it and the dogs hated it.
