I'm going to get sacked tomorrow

mimbulusmimbultonia · 13/01/2019 21:24

That's just it really. Shitting myself

Had a miscarriage in November so had 2 weeks off for that work were not happy at all at that but couldn't help it.

Was in and out of hospital over Christmas because it turned out to be a molar pregnancy so I had to go to Sheffield for tests and chemo . All over now but definitely had more time off over Christmas than I should have but couldn't help that.

Then on thursday 3rd January my mum killed herself and I've been off work since then sorting out her affairs and the funeral. I'm 27 and now have no one apart from my DH, I'm going to get sacked tomorrow because I've taken so much time off work and I couldn't give a shit.

I really don't want to face up to it but I can't not go in again, even though I could do with another few days to sort some more stuff out.

Things will get better soon right? I can get another job if I tell the reason why I got sacked?

You must be traumatised you poor thing. Please contact your hr department if you have one and talk it through. You might find they will give you leave. I really hope you are ok. Much love to you x

ChristmaspArti · 13/01/2019 21:45

A suicide is on a different level to an ordinary bereavement and your work should recognise this. If you work for somewhere that provides counseling services, then this might also be helpful to access but you may not be ready for that quite yet.

Mummymummums · 13/01/2019 21:46

Can you go in and tender your notice on the basis you have so much to deal with? Rather than let them sack you? Obviously only do this if you're 100% sure they're going to sack you.
Otherwise if you want to keep the job see if you can agree a period of unpaid leave?
Not sure they sound very supportive though.
You've had a dreadful time, I'm sorry Thanks
Do you work in a hospital? You mentioned theatre coordinator- sorry if I've missed that.

duckthisshit · 13/01/2019 21:47

That's such a lot to have to deal with in such a short space of time, I think you sound like an incredibly strong person. You will find something else try not to worry, in the grand scheme of things your job is nothing.

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 13/01/2019 21:47

Theatre coordinator? NHS? That’d not be enough to be sacked for. Have they said that’s what will happen?

brizzledrizzle · 13/01/2019 21:48

You've had an awful time OP Flowers
I assume you work in the NHS? In my experience they are horrendous at caring for their staff.

frenchchick9 · 13/01/2019 21:48

Oh, I’m so very sorry. What a lot you’ve had to deal with. What a terrible time for you.

I’d talk to your hr department tomorrow and tell them everything. I’d also ring your GP tomorrow. You sound so stressed. Sending Flowers

SingaSong12 · 13/01/2019 21:49

((((mimbulusmimbultonia)))
So sorry this is happening. You may find the employer or your colleagues more supportive than you think.

If you do get dismissed take things one day at a time. Depending on your circumstances you could take some days to sort things out in your head.

If asked about your last employment you can say that it finished as you needed time off due to bereavement.

Later
If you have paid enough national insurance (and you want to) then you could claim either job seekers allowance or employment and support allowance (if you are too ill to work). You can also apply for JSA as generally you are fit to work but say that you are too ill to work and has may be paid for a period.

Depending on your income/savings as a couple you may be entitled to low income benefits.

WrongKindOfFace · 13/01/2019 21:49

Oh you poor thing. I’m so sorry for your loss.

I hope it goes ok tomorrow. I’m sure they will want to keep you on.

Willow1992 · 13/01/2019 21:50

Just one option - could you call in sick tomorrow, go and see the gp, try and get signed off for however long your notice period is and then email in your notice? That way you will not have being sacked hindering your chances at getting your next job. It will give you more time to search for a new job and being able to quit rather than be sacked is a bit of a fuck you to them for treating you so badly.

mimbulusmimbultonia · 13/01/2019 21:52

@Howmanysleepstilchristmas yes nhs no they haven't said anything but I've just wound my self up stupidly as I haven't spoken to work for a week and they haven't rung me either so I've just been worrying all weekend. I've been trying to sort out w funeral and all the other stuff that you have to do and it just didn't occur to me to ring them again until I realised on Friday night they hadn't been in touch.

I have my husbands parents here at the moment who are lovely but it's just so shit

MissEliza · 13/01/2019 21:54

I don't think you should just let this happen. All of these things were beyond your control and you have been through an unbelievable amount of stress. Get a sick note from the GP tomorrow.

Mummymummums · 13/01/2019 21:54

Good point a PP made is that the pregnancy related absence can't be a reason to sack as that's discrimination- however the absence due to bereavement may be enough. Hopefully it's not as you fear, it'd be really unfair.

AllMYSmellySocks · 13/01/2019 21:57

That is a huge amount for anyone to deal with in such a short space of time. I'm so sorry. I think you should see your GP. You need as much support as you can get. Flowers

LL83 · 13/01/2019 21:58

Sorry for your loss. You have had an awful time.

I don't think you will get sacked tomorrow. I expect your work want to talk to you. There will be know doubt you have genuine reasons for being off so surely boss will sympathise. Employers woyld be annoyed with someone lying about illness, you are clearly not. Try not to worry. Flowers

StealthPolarBear · 13/01/2019 21:58

Oh op, I'm so sorry. I suspect through the pregnancy loss you didn't have your mum's support (as she had her own issues), how awful for you.
Fwiw I don't think you will be sacked. Best of luck.

Betty777 · 13/01/2019 22:00

You poor thing.
Please don't go straight back to work, you must be feeling dazed and emotionally exhausted.
As PP said, you will be able to get a note from GP. I don't know the details exactly but I am almost certain they aren't allowed to sack you, especially as you've recently been pregnant. And if you mention anything formally to your HR department about being stressed then they aren't allowed to dismiss you.
Sorry you had a molar. I had one too and it was harsh - nobody understood what had happened, least of all me. So sorry about your mum

jessstan2 · 13/01/2019 22:00

Flowers for you mimbulus. What a thoroughly rotten time you are having.

jay55 · 13/01/2019 22:01

So sorry you're going through so much terrible shit.
If not for finances it sounds like not working would be a good thing right now.
Do take care.

MrsFogi · 13/01/2019 22:01

OP - do not resign!!!! This is rarely a good move.

StickItUpYaJumpa · 13/01/2019 22:03

OP I'm sorry you're having such a hard time.

Make sure work know what has gone on. I knkw it is personal and hard. Get a GP note if you need to. It might help. If it doesn't, do you really want to work somewhere so heartless?

IT WILL BE OK.

I got sacked for being useless so much less explainable to future employers. Most employers will understand what a horrible time you've had. I joined an agency who generally don't care too much if you got sacked. One of my placements took me on permanently fairly quickly. I was honest with my new boss who had seen my work and knew me. When the (horrific and unnecessarily personal) reference came he threw it away.

You will get to the other side of this. X

melissasummerfield · 13/01/2019 22:05

Hi

Im so sorry about your mum, what a terrible time for you.

I think you are worrying prematurely about being sacked, at the very least they would have had to invite you to a formal meeting to discuss your absence.

I dont think its unreasonable for you to be off work after what has happened to you, I would try to speak to HR and your line manager.

Chocolate50 · 13/01/2019 22:06

Oh my god OP. Is there a hr person you could speak to? Good idea about going to your gp, they should help you get things into perspective

melissasummerfield · 13/01/2019 22:07

Also wanted to add that in the event that they do dismiss you, a organisation that large will normally just confirm the period of employment and your job title when asked for a reference.

Missingstreetlife · 13/01/2019 22:08

So sorry all your troubles at once. Ring your manager or someone in hr and get time off. They should be sympathetic. Also contact your union who should help you, if not a member you can join. This too will pass.
