Who would you vote for in a General Election?

If there was a GE tomorrow, which political party would you vote for?

Personally I would vote Labour as I want to see an end to austerity, more money invested in public services and less inequality.

Labour, as I always have done.

Elfinablender · 14/01/2019 15:52

I have always voted Labour.

I'm not voting for anyone now. I'm done with the lot of them. The whole thing is fucking farce.

Ta1kinPeace · 14/01/2019 15:55

I like my MP
but I loathe the leader of his party.

I would not vote for any party that pressed ahead with Brexit

sadly it would mean my vote going into the wasteland of FPTP

I'm appalled at all 3 major parties, not just re Brexit, but their antics over the last 20 years.

So I'll be voting based on the local candidates, not national leaders/policies. If (and it's a big IF) there's an outstanding local candidate who genuinely seems interested in our town, then they'll probably get my vote.

I'm fed up of the main parties "parachuting in" THEIR central office approved London candidates who havn't the faintest idea re local issues. So anyone not living in the constituency is automatically out for me these days.

As our town/area has been royally screwed over by every London-Centric government of the last 30 years, I'm definitely going down a "localism" route.

Bring back The Monster Raving Loony Party,I say. Grin Couldn't be any worse than what we've already got!

Kazzyhoward · 14/01/2019 16:00

I think the most damaging spin off from the Brexit mess is that it has completely destroyed the people’s belief in and support for our parliamentary systems.

I'd turn that around. I'd say it was disappointment and anger at a succession of useless politicians that led to the growth of UKIP and the resultant Brexit vote.

Certainly better than a Corbyn government.

Fairylightfurore · 14/01/2019 16:04

For the first time ever I genuinely don't know. I traditionally vote Labour or Lib dem, but not sure if I could bring myself to as things stand. Under no circumstances will I vote Tory either. Ideally I would like a coalition where no one has any real power without compromise.

MsLucyLastic · 14/01/2019 16:23

I don't understand why people want to spoil their votes, when people who count votes are on this thread saying it has no impact.

If you spoil your ballot paper, you may WISH it had an impact and sends a message. But if you are being categorically told that it doesn't, then why persist?

We can't fight against men being seen as women, if we refuse to engage politically. Who will know that that is WHY you have spoiled your paper? Noone reads it or, ig they did, they will not care.

Wanting politicians to care about the reasons for spoiled ballots, doesn't mean they will care.

MsLucyLastic · 14/01/2019 16:24

Sorry, badly worded but hopefully the gist came across! Blush

Its a way of saying None of the Above

In the USA you get thrown off the electoral roll if you do not vote
In Australia, voting is compulsory.

I always vote, on principle. But sometimes I want it registered that I dislike all the options.
And a spoilt ballot states that far more clearly than just staying at home.

You don't get that many people are politically homeless? Really?

Agree with that.

Elfinablender · 14/01/2019 16:31

Yes, I'm politically homeless. I don't think any party would do a half decent job of running the country or even listening to the people in it. I don't think there is any benefit in legitimising the polilical charade by voting for any one these self-serving narcissists.

Giggage · 14/01/2019 16:39

I gave up years ago. Didn't even bother for brexshit.

MsLucyLastic · 14/01/2019 16:46

Yes, I understand that people feel politically homeless so feel unable to vote.

I just don't think that spoiling a vote to make a point, actually does get the message across to politicians, about WHY you feel homeless.

If they barely read the spoilt ballots, then zero message is sent.

Samcro · 14/01/2019 16:50

labour. we have a very good labour mp.

mrsmuddlepies · 14/01/2019 17:02

Lib Dems

UrsulaPandress · 14/01/2019 17:19

But just imagine if 40% of people who voted submitted a spoilt vote. Or even 20%.

It would create headlines at least.

Holidayshopping · 14/01/2019 17:29

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t mentioned at all!

Elfinablender · 14/01/2019 17:34

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t mentioned at all!

They really have eroded all trust capital when you can easily imagine that democracy could be on its last legs and the political classes would cover it up to cling to power.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/01/2019 17:38

I’ll look at the independents and hope there’s one that I like.

It could be the time for the rise of non party affiliated candidates!

UrsulaPandress · 14/01/2019 17:38

Some info here on how best to spoil the ballot paper.

Disclaimer - could be a bunch of raving mad people.

greathat · 14/01/2019 17:40

I'd vote labour, but I wouldn't be happy about it

Helmetbymidnight · 14/01/2019 17:43

While spoiling ballot paper may be tempting, it’s not like there will be a bunch of wise people who will go ‘ah look we must make our politics more appealing!’ - in fact, quite the reverse is likely- spoiling sends a message: ‘ah, we can get away with this more...’
