Anyone else pulling an essay all-nighter tonight?

Mature student who also works part time and life has been crazy recently.

I have an assignment to finish by tomorrow. It’s going to be such a late night. I feel sick about it. Anyone else?

I remember doing this in my student days, and having to go to the computer room in the university (blessedly open all night) to do it! I used to get good marks too!

Good luck, I'm sure you'll smash it!

dudsville · 13/01/2019 17:49

Oooooooh, shudder at the thought. I couldn't do it back in the day, let alone now. Good luck, get a strong pot of tea going and drink lots of water!

5FullFathoms · 13/01/2019 17:52

Not now but used to do this at uni (a lot). I still maintain I do my best work when my back is against the wall. Gives me a certain clarity of thought.

Antiquevintageandrusty · 13/01/2019 17:53

Me! I work full time and have staffing issues so am working more than full time - tonight for one and all next weekend for another - I think I am four weeks behind !

Otterses · 13/01/2019 17:55

I'll be studying most of the night if that's any consolation and trying to get ahead with an assignment. I also work part time, and volunteer so I totally get how hard it is to juggle everything.

Best of luck for tonight OP. You can do this Smile

McDougal · 13/01/2019 17:57

Me! I have three assignments due tomorrow Sad. Thankfully, two of those are done and dusted and I only need about 1500 words on the last one. I then have an exam next Monday and have to submit the first chapter of my dissertation by the end of Jan.

Wondering why I decided to go to university at the moment Confused

newmobile · 13/01/2019 18:01

Me well sort of. Have one due in Tuesday so I do have Monday night as well. Full time worker with 4 children it's not easy.

BayandBlonde · 13/01/2019 18:07

Thankfully my study days are long gone but I too used to be completing assignments right up until deadline date. My final dissertation was submitted online with minutes to spare. I don't recommend it. I was fortunate the uni sever was still running and all went through ok.

Revising for exams too, I would only revise the night before. It was the only way I could memorise all the crap from the term.

I got the grade I needed so all good Smile

BayandBlonde · 13/01/2019 18:08

Sorry to add, no kids but working full time with a useless OH to serve

CoffeeTableBook · 13/01/2019 20:30

Am plodding on! Thanks for the good wishes.... it’s going to be a loooong night

Yep, me. Have two due in tomorrow. About half done on both so I'm not too worried. We have until midnight though which takes some pressure off.

It's so hard to fit in around childcare, work, general life, housework.... The 18 year olds are lucky.

Camomila · 13/01/2019 20:49

Helllo! Me too...

I had planned to do it much earlier but DS,DH, and I have been rotating a bug around each other since Christmas so either DS has been off nursery or i've been ill.

user1andonly · 13/01/2019 20:59

Not tonight but have done many times and, no doubt, will again!

DS wrote 3000 words of his dissertation on his last night and still got a 2:1!

You can do it Grin

CoffeeTableBook · 14/01/2019 00:04

CoffeeTableBook · 14/01/2019 03:32

Going to bed now.... can't think straight, have tied myself in knots and I am bloody confused whether my justifications even make sense...

Deadline is 1 tomorrow

UGH

Good luck @Mrsmaudwatts, @Camomila and @QuestionableMouse

Yup deadline is at 12 tomorrow and I've no idea what I'm doing, gonna go make a massive pot of coffee, got my study snacks and hope to hell I can get something passable in in time.

FlatCapAndNoIdea · 14/01/2019 04:06

Still awake working on my dissertation 😂 (in my breaks from faffing about online…)

FlatCapAndNoIdea · 14/01/2019 04:07

(Fuck you, Bertolt Brecht)

Buntybearbess · 14/01/2019 04:27

Currently cursing Syntax here @FlatCapAndNoIdea and instead of working I'm sitting eating crackers, cheese, butter and various veggie snacks Grin today is going to be a long day

FlatCapAndNoIdea · 14/01/2019 04:32

So far for me it's been cold pizza, bananas and cream, an apple, a cappuccino and a can of Coke Zero. I think I've spent more time stuffing things in my face than writing…

One of my main issues is I just can't leave off the research and get writing. I write three sentences, go to look something up, and end up trawling through papers finding yet more interesting stuff I could refer to. Last night, I read two novels, for the sake of a couple of lines comparing them to my main texts. Hmm

Buntybearbess · 14/01/2019 04:39

@FlatCapAndNoIdea, info gathering as a form of procrastination, I get it. My main form is snacking and youtube, I always look for things relevant to what I'm doing then distraction happens. Every time an essay happens I put it off till the last moment and then end up doing an all nighter. Recently bought a load of organisational calendars and planners and the like so now everything is scheduled and on the wall where I can't miss it I'm hoping it'll guilt me into working on things in a timely way.

FlatCapAndNoIdea · 14/01/2019 07:16

I've tried that before… didn't work 😩 I even have a mentor I'm supposed to be accountable to who works with me on my scheduling.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 14/01/2019 07:28

I tried it too, it don't work, I just felt more guilty.
