Anyone else pulling an essay all-nighter tonight?

Mature student who also works part time and life has been crazy recently.

I have an assignment to finish by tomorrow. It’s going to be such a late night. I feel sick about it. Anyone else?

:(

@FlatCapAndNoIdea, my mentor was rubbish so I decided to go without her and my study skills person. They weren't helping me but making me more stressed and anxious so I said goodbye to both of them. I've been stressing like mad about this assignment but then when I rechecked it it is worth 10% of the module and I can't do the second half at all so I've submitted it as is and made a note of what I need to revise for the exam.

Gonna finish my porridge, put away my all nighter snacks and then go to bed for a couple of hours. I need sleep and I can't do anymore with the assignment so I'm not going to stress any more about it. Once I've had some sleep I can start working on things that I need to actually know/revise and get a head start on what I need to do this term.

Best of luck to you and everyone else that's dealing with this.

FlatCapAndNoIdea · 14/01/2019 08:28

Sleep! :) No point trying to work when your brain's not up to it.

FlatCapAndNoIdea · 14/01/2019 08:30

I only had one study skills session and I realised it was just replicating a lot of what I was doing with my mentor, so stopped. My mentor is great, though; mostly she tells me not to worry and to scrape along on the bare minimum 😂

doctorbarbie · 14/01/2019 09:07

I should have pulled an all nighter but went to bed instead and am getting myself ready to start now. I need to submit a draft copy of some of my dissertation and am finding it really tough to just finish the damn thing. I need to start revising for an exam so really need this done.

FlatCapAndNoIdea · 14/01/2019 09:23

I'm supposed to be spending the next term doing an essay portfolio and exam revision so really need to get my diss done too.

The bit that really needs doing, I keep avoiding, expanding other bits instead 😳 I'm currently about 20% over my word limit too 😖

QuestionableMouse · 14/01/2019 10:12

I set a timer for five minutes. I'm not allowed to leave the word doc until the time is up.

Woke up with a headache and stuffy nose so not feeling very motivated. Time for a cup of coffee and I'll crack on again.

FlatCapAndNoIdea · 14/01/2019 10:25

5 minutes should be doable…

CoffeeTableBook · 14/01/2019 11:48

Keep it up keep it up.

Nice to think there are a few of us at there all doing this.

Struggling with mine. I'm fighting a migraine which isn't helping and I just want to go to sleep.

Only 2k words to go.

McDougal · 14/01/2019 17:41

Mine just isn't coming. I thought last minute pressure would help, but unfortunately not.

I hope those of you trying to write while feeling like rubbish feel better soon!

QuestionableMouse · 14/01/2019 18:44

I feel you. I'm getting through mine but my god, it's hard work.

What are you writing about? Mine is a critical thinking debate summary so I'm writing a little bit (400 words) about many things!

FoulMouthedMotherFigure · 14/01/2019 19:03

I'm trying to cobble together an entire GCSE independent investigative skills task report by Wednesday. (Should probably add, I'm a mature student.)

It's taken me all of Monday just to write a brief outline of the task I undertook, the equipment (one item!) and methods used, and to drop in 15 photos with date, time, weather conditions and similar info beside them. Tomorrow I have to analyse them all, produce some interesting-looking measurements and figures, and discuss why the final set of observations went so horribly wrong. Sigh...

QuestionableMouse · 14/01/2019 19:17

Oof that's not good.

I'm on the final stretch of mine. Just two more topics to do then a bit of creative writing to finish and I'm done. I have until midnight so I think I'll be okay. I'm just so tired now.

QuestionableMouse · 14/01/2019 21:22

I just uploaded one and am 85% done on the second. Thank god. Hope everyone else is doing well too!

I have done so many of these. All power to you all for cracking on and getting good results!

I remember having to drive in the night to deliver one of minenat like 5o/c in the morning as the tutor had allowed a short extension, and I figured tutor wouldn't know whether it arrived the night before or not so long as it was on the mat by the time he got up!

Smotheroffive · 15/01/2019 03:04

Much much coffee and rubbish snax!

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 15/01/2019 07:32

I've submitted my essay - don't think it's that great but I'm massively relieved to have finished with such an awful module. Now on to the revision.

Has anyone tried mindmapping? I was a bit sniffy when I first heard about it, but actually it's really helpful.

Mrsmaudwatts · 16/01/2019 00:03

Still at it. Have SO much to do before I can submit a draft to my supervisor, and I keep ending up down bloody worm holes. I need to STOP reading and do more writing! Well done everyone who is done, and good luck and ☕ those of us still at it!

FlatCapAndNoIdea · 16/01/2019 00:42

STOP reading and do more writing

it me
