I'm fucking 50 - how did that happen?

Just that really. Some of you are already, I know ( Sparklingbrook, Anyfucker). Listening to stuff from my past. Looking at pictures of past conquests. Still feeling like a 17-year-old idiot. No point really. Is it OK?

Still feeling like a 17-year-old idiot.

I will always feel like one!

DramaAlpaca · 12/01/2019 02:07

It's OK. It really is. I'll be 55 this year so I've had a few years to get used to it. I'm still 25 in my head - although I'm sure I can't be as DS1 is 25 Confused

If it's your birthday today, have a good one. And look forward, not back!

blueirises · 12/01/2019 02:08

Have you got to the great 5-0, Mrs TP?

OP posts:
blueirises · 12/01/2019 02:10

I've made loads of wrong choices. I'm fine, but just sometimes wonder where my life is going

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratcett · 12/01/2019 02:11

Close but no cigar yet. Honestly though, 40s have been great. And getting better.

Ive made stupid, irresponsible choices for years. Im just lucky. Most of life is luck, not judgement.

blueirises · 12/01/2019 02:14

Yeah, it's my birthday now (12th). I share it (exactly) with David Mitchell - the author, not the lovely funny one. And Michael Aspel. And the bloke from s Express

Cake all round. Im scoffing most of it because its imaginary and I`m low-carbing!

blueirises · 12/01/2019 02:16

I have no judgement, or luck. My life isn't awful. I do things I love. But...

Aww happy birthday!
I had my 50th last year and it was fabulous!
I loved my 40s and I'm gonna love my 50s too, goddamit GrinWine

DramaAlpaca · 12/01/2019 02:18

Well happy birthday to you. The big 50 is a massive achievement, that's what I tell myself. So Flowers Cake and lots of Wine to you.

blueirises · 12/01/2019 02:20

Thank you Tante Rose! I'm just whinging really. Still, Kylie's (slightly) older than me, so that's OK, right?

OP posts:
blueirises · 12/01/2019 02:22

And thanks too, Drama Alpaca. I'm answering here realising I can't type to save my life. Oh well. Could be the wine and vodka as well

TanteRose · 12/01/2019 02:28

Funny you should mention Kylie! She and I were born in May '68, but I'm 11 days older than her.

I’m 50 later this year and was saying to my DS the other day that it seems so unreal. I can’t get my head around it! I have to say though that my 40s were probably the best decade of my life so I have high hopes for my 50s. To be honest I wouldn’t want to be younger because there’s a lot about the world that I don’t really like! Having said that I can’t see myself really celebrating it as such. I shall probably just let it pass quietly and without fuss!

LarkDescending · 12/01/2019 08:57

This happened to me last year. Still not got my head round it! Happy birthday OP Cake Wine Flowers

dementedma · 12/01/2019 09:00

55 on Monday!!!
hard to believe.

Squeegle · 12/01/2019 09:01

Happy Birthday! It is a shock isn’t it? But we are the same inside. I am shock horror 53 now and sonam almost used to it. The worst thing is how much younger some of my work colleagues are! They don’t get some of my dads army or are you being served type jokes Shock

chipsnmayo · 12/01/2019 09:03

My god my 40s were stressful, love my DD dearly but I was a single mum to a pre teen, then teenager which brought many challenges.

For me 50 was a real turning point - 50s are so much more chill so far (only 52!), she's an adult and whilst we are very close, I have my own freedom now, I have started numerous hobbies.

That said I can't believe how fast my life has all gone, did not realise it until I was about 50. 20 years ago DD was a tiny baby and yesterday I took her to an opening of a new brewery for a beer...

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 12/01/2019 09:03

I'm 58, and the thing that I hate is the deterioration of my eyesight. Still, I went for an 8 mile walk yesterday, and my heart rate hardly got over 100 for most of it. Aches this morning, but that's mostly the biking and climbing injuries.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 12/01/2019 09:04

Also I'm a grandfather. That's full of WIN and EXCELLENCE.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/01/2019 09:15

I can't believe it either, in my head I'm 25.

Last night I drank a bottle of wine and played board games with Dh while we both sang along to 70/80 music. Slightly tipsy, lots of 'chair dancing'.

Much the same sort of silly evening I've done for decades. I remember my parents doing it, coming down in the morning to find empty bowls with crisps and nuts in them.

My forties were my best decade and enjoyment increased hugely when the children moved out as all the worry left with them. Practically my life changed hugely - no cooking, minimal cleaning as dh and I don't make any mess compared to teenagers - masses of takeaways and eating beans on toast.

A huge 'please yourself' attitude to everything.

What causes me the most 'angst' is how quickly time passes. I actually struggle with believing it. I want to hold onto every moment.

Squeegle · 12/01/2019 09:24

Yes, the hardest bit of my life is not my age but my teenagers! This the is the best argument for having them at 20something! So you can enjoy your 50s!!

blueirises · 12/01/2019 09:53

Morning all - thanks for birthday wishes. Slightly tipsy last night, similar evening to yours, Laurie. Bit of a head this morning.
I suppose the good thing is it's here now, 50. I'm not "late" something any more, or "nearly". But yes, the bloody eyesight (bag glasses, upstairs glasses, locker at work glasses); and the teenagers!

I hear you, OP. I'm 50 this year. And no I can't believe it either.

Rowgtfc72 · 12/01/2019 14:20

47 in two weeks. Not sure how it happened either.
I will always be 23 in my head though!
