M6 incident j16 - anyone else?

Arghhhhhh. Stuck in the m6 j16 chaos. Been here 2 hours now. Motorway shut both ways while police apparently look for 27 people who have jumped off a lorry and onto the motorway and surrounding fields. Dying to go all Dunkirk spirit and exchange pleasantries with other traffic jammers but daren’t get out in case I get mistaken for an escapee. All I’ve got to eat is a vegan protein bar when I would actually very much like a Cadbury’s Twirl. Even a Terry’s Chocolate Orange would do and I detest them under normal non-siege conditions #ThanksForNothingVeganuary

I'm at J16 every couple of weeks and am wondering why they chose there to jump out of the lorry! Where were they coming from? I've tried to find it on the news but haven't seen anything - anyone found it?

AlpacaPicnic · 09/01/2019 20:26

Dear god, the typos!

ArtisanBaps · 09/01/2019 20:31

@HollowTalk here is what I’ve found www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/stoke-on-trent-news/live-m6-police-incident-stoke-2411575

@sonlypuppyfat the op has already said she's nothing against the people involved. She's not even ranting just lighyheartedly passing the time. So wind your neck in!

ArtisanBaps · 09/01/2019 20:35

Just moved 100 yards. Very excited at prospect of toilets Smile

Does your best china cup have a saucer? Do you bring that? Do you drive along sipping with your pinky cocked?

Forget M6. Tell me about your sacred morning tea!

mumof2andstillsurviving · 09/01/2019 20:39

Op I hope you get moving soon. Have things moved on with #weegate?

Mummyilovejokes1 · 09/01/2019 20:40

If you have young toddlers/babies, any spare nappies in the car you could use?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 09/01/2019 20:42

Saw it on the news OP.

I agree with the MaccyD is your best bet.

AnotherPidgey · 09/01/2019 20:50

I've had two seperate M1 embankment toileting trips. The cars hadn't moved for hours. Sadly my walking with a large box of Kleenex was the most exciting action going on. Frustratingly I was within half a mile of services on both occassions! The first time, I'd been in the services 5 hours earlier...

Both events were in December and I'm very glad I permanently keep an old tatty "car coat" for emergency use when the engine is off in cold weather.

WuzzAndBuddy · 09/01/2019 20:51

Have you made any new motorway friends yet, OP?

WuzzAndBuddy · 09/01/2019 20:54

@AnotherPidgey , my DS is currently going through a phase of preparing our car for any emergency situation we might end up in... I shall let him know about 'car coats'. He's added a blanket to the boot but never considered a car coat!

Milliepatch · 09/01/2019 20:55

I got stuck for 2 hours last summer with a 3 year old who needed a wee as much as me in a heatwave...luckily everyone was out of cars and we found a very kind coach driver who let us on for a wee Grin. I also met a child I used to teach whos now a teenager on the hard shoulder 😂

SleepWarrior · 09/01/2019 21:03

@AlpacaPicnic I think that was the comedian Sarah Milican - I've definitely heard her talk about such an incident on TV (and it was the first thing I thought of too!)

ArtisanBaps · 09/01/2019 21:23

No new friends. Disappointing. Would have liked a to have exchanged cards for years after

OP posts:
Willbeatjanuaryblues · 09/01/2019 21:28

Op are you still stuck??

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 09/01/2019 21:37

Yeah, I bet all those hundreds of people caught in this are full of kind thoughts about a bunch of illegal stowaways.

ArtisanBaps · 09/01/2019 23:40

Home at 10:30pm - (thought it best not to update when I started moving ) was stuck for 4 3/4 hours.

When we started moving there was absolutely NO sign of anything , no police , nothing. Presume they wanted to clear the scene to stop people gawking and taking more photos. Lots of really negative comments about “illegals” across Twitter so I imagine they don’t want to add fuel to the fire.

ArtisanBaps · 09/01/2019 23:41

I’m never leaving home again without a SheWee, 20 Twirls and a car coat

RightOcciputAnterior · 09/01/2019 23:45

Imagine how gutted you'd be if you'd travelled to England for a better life, and ended up in Stoke Grin

ArtisanBaps · 09/01/2019 23:49

@RandomlyChosenName no saucer I’m afraid - it’s a cracked Cath Kidston one - the very small older style ones that they don’t seem to do any more and it doesn’t even fit in the cup holder properly due to the handle ! I frequently have slopped tea everywhere 🙄. I genuinely worship tea and have been really struggling with oat milk for veganuary.

Best response to a thread ever ^ Grin

whatsnewchoochoo · 09/01/2019 23:51

I might love you a little bit with your China tea cup in the car Grin
