I would scroll on by.

Lavender00 · 06/01/2019 18:31

I'd unfollow whoever shares this shite

BollocksToBrexit · 06/01/2019 18:32

If you're feeling arsey reply 'Actually we did help ourselves first, that's why we now have to help out those countries we took from.'

Or just ignore it.

lunicorn · 06/01/2019 18:33

It's been shared by a born again Christian. I've been shocked at the number of old Christian friends who share these sorts of values. I feel like I've been leaving in a parallel universe not really knowing the people I thought I knew.

Ikabod · 06/01/2019 18:34

I wouldn't be able to do one of those pithy come-backs or quote reliable statistics, so I'd either ignore or say "oh ffs!".
My Dbro posts stuff in support of Tommy Robinson and I have nothing to say to him that would make a difference. He thinks he's a "good guy" and mid-represented by mainstream media. You just can't reason with idiots, sadly.

Bumblebee777 · 06/01/2019 18:34

Wouldn't bother replying, you can't argue with stupid

Silvercatowner · 06/01/2019 18:35

Why is this person your 'friend'?

LightFire · 06/01/2019 18:35

Not worth replying.

lunicorn · 06/01/2019 18:39

Silvercat. We went to church together when we were young. He was nice and caring. He found me on Facebook. He now shares bollocks! I can't marry up this with the him I knew. Perhaps older age is making him a bit soft.

OP posts:
WontonSoupForTheSoul · 06/01/2019 18:41

How very Christian of him.

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 06/01/2019 18:41

Unfollow. Just did this with someone who shared that witch hopkins!!

SoyDora · 06/01/2019 18:42

My ex’s mum regularly posts this sort of shite. I’ve unfollowed so I don’t have to see it.

SwedishEdith · 06/01/2019 18:44

I'd defriend someone who posted shite like this. And tell them why.

Silvercatowner · 06/01/2019 18:44

He now shares bollocks

Unfriend him! Life is too short.

Yellowbrickhouse · 06/01/2019 18:47

Someone said recently: I can't understand why people in poor countries keep having children if they can't afford them.

it never ceases to amaze me what narrow, ignorant lives some people lead

Bombardier25966 · 06/01/2019 18:49

You could reply with this link:

www.concern.org.uk/news-blog/unboxing-myths-foreign-aid

It is expressed in terms that a true Christian would find it difficult to argue with.

toolazytothinkofausername · 06/01/2019 18:55

Leave Facebook. End of.

TheSmallAssassin · 06/01/2019 19:37

"I got my annual tax summary yesterday, £95 out of the £7896 I paid in tax and NICs this year went on overseas aid, compared to £4462 that went towards welfare, health and pensions, so I don't see how it can be true to say that we donate to other countries before we help our own. Unless you have different figures to back up your claim?"

(A true story)

Bodicea · 07/01/2019 06:49

I agree with foreign aid and am happy to pay as I think most people are. And yes that post is ignorant and selfish.

However i think it became a problem for people when it was ringfenced a few years ago when most other budgets were reduced. It felt like a kick in the teeth in times of austerity. It should really have been reduced in line with everything else ( not scrapped I should add). By ring fencing foreign aid the government were saying are own people were not as important,
I also think it shouldn’t be paid to countries such as India which can afford to have its own space programme.

blackcat86 · 07/01/2019 06:57

I often try and find where they've linked or shared a status from because 9 times out of 10 it's some super racist right wing shit hole that the person really hasn't considered the link to because they've seen it shared somewhere elss. FIL used to share stuff like this as he's a veteran so anything about supporting troops would get shared. Fair enough to encourage people to think of those in or who have seen active service but if you see where the page the status actually came from it was pretty terrifying. Once we showed him that by sharing that post he was showing his support for the original page he stopped.

louise5754 · 07/01/2019 07:00

I would agree with the troops comment. Yes they are issued standard kit that either takes ages to work or leaves them wet or uncomfortable.

I'd dread to think how much money my husband has spent just to do his job.

TroysMammy · 07/01/2019 07:07

Don't the elderly get free prescriptions? I'd unfollow him too.

Lexilooo · 07/01/2019 08:49

Challenge this type of shit as often as possible to stop it spreading further. And the nasty chain messages too.

HoraceCope · 07/01/2019 08:54

i would scroll on by, yawning

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 07/01/2019 09:02

It really depends on how much energy you have.

I have accepted that I can't fight every single ignorant opinion I see on fb/insta etc. It pains me sometimes, but I was wasting my evenings sometimes fighting with people who'll never change their views.

If you can be bothered, do it. If you can't, that's ok too. You have to take care of yourself.
