So what’s everyone up to today?

I have run away for a walk followed by Brew and the Sunday paper
Just needed some down time as feel a bit peopled out after the Christmas madness
Later we are off out for a bit of a family walk followed by a roast
And then tomorrow is normality for everyone else (I’ve been back in work since Wednesday) so all the Sunday night bollocks that I hate
It’s been grey and cloudy here for days which sums up my cheerful January mood at the moment SadGrin

We are de-Christmasing the house.

I say we - DH is doing it while I feed DS!

After that, just a lazy day I think.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/01/2019 11:07

I'll start on yet another batch of archive material to scan and record properly - I can listen to a book while I do this and that'll keep me busy for most of the day.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 06/01/2019 11:11

De-Christmasing the house is also on the to do list

Just finished work, cooking a fry up brunch then taking the kids to a big park so little one can play and older one can play football with DP, probably just a chill evening

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 06/01/2019 11:17

I'm having a very boring day getting ready for going back to work. My house is a bit of a midden and there's piles of clean clothes i should put away.

I like my job but love the holidays so much I'm quite down in the dumps. I'll cook something really nice for tea to try and cheer us all up.

DS is up to his neck in revision so it's all a bit gloomy.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 06/01/2019 11:22

Ooooh! My very favourite type of thread...

  • de-christmasing house
  • batch cooking lamb tagine, 4 bean chilli and protein bars (well, DH will probs do this but he had rather a big night last night and slept on the sofa because he was too bloody noisy when he got back & I was woken up by him so it won't be until much later... but tagine for dinner: yay!)
  • finish prep for inset that I'm running in school tomorrow and get my head round what to say and when
  • get DD ready for going back to school (I started back on Thursday so haven't got the jitters too badly, which is good)
  • style hair and do DD's- needs deep conditioning and combing before a trim then re-style
  • pack for a work trip on Wednesday
  • finish blog I write on children's literature... one of the texts is still to be read but hey ho, I'll get there
  • laundry and ironing but DH will do all of that ... honestly don't know what I'd do without him!

DD is delighting in listening to audio books and just pottering in her room while I eat a v late breakfast in bed and Mumsnet so haven't actually started on mammoth task list yet but my new motto is, Relax first, Do later as I've not been too well - have possible MS - and have to pace myself.

Have a good day everyone!

Packing away Christmas (although I have decided to leave my multicoloured Canterbury bells up in the kitchen until spring Xmas Grin).

Dog walk in a minute with a drink in a pub (just me and the dog).

Starting to build flatpack furniture.

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 06/01/2019 11:30

Love these threads ☺️
So far in our house everyone has been nothing but lazy (lie in, reading and CBeebies) so I think we need to go for a walk or at least out in the garden and blow away some cobwebs. This will be a difficult sell though as the DC love a walk but loathe the getting dressed which is required beforehand.
Either way I’m defrosting homemade minestrone for lunch. Then this afternoon I’m planning a bit of housework and finishing the de-Christmasing.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 06/01/2019 11:41

I need to do some batch cooking to get ahead for the next few weeks but am feeling lazy Sad
I have decided to leave lots of fairy lights up till Spring to try and make me feel more cheerful and make the place brighter
My SAD is kicking in big time

DH & DS1 went to football at 9am, they should be back soon.

I took Ds2 & Ds3 to the park for an hour to burn off some energy, bumped into a friend on the way there.

Lunch at my parents' house, round the corner, dmum has been baking.

Taking down Christmas decorations.

Homework for DS1, Mathletics for DS2 & Bug Club for DS3.

Packing school bags.

Roast pork for dinner.

Early night all round!

Still trying to catch up with work (I suspect that is/will be my opening line every time there's a thread like this :-( ) but have at least got my website and facebook page up to date. DD is at her Dad's until mid afternoon and then we have to get organised for back to school tomorrow. Have already found a couple of bits missed in the de-christmassing the house yesterday. Have also tried heating some of the Christmas cake as I have left over brandy butter that really needs eating with something warm - it hasn't worked.

Someone's popping round in a bit to sort out some paperwork for a charity I volunteer with and I'll have to pop out later to drop stuff off for the same charity. Need to write a letter to a friend to go in a birthday card and a thank you email to another friend. Feeling overwhelmed but will keep plodding on...

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 06/01/2019 11:50

Oh yes, thank you letters need doing as well. Need to get DD on to that.

Crunchymum · 06/01/2019 11:51

Lazy day here, although we've all been ill so had far too many lazy days.

All Xmas stuff is boxed up and ready to go in the loft, tree ready to be thrown (we took it down on 2nd but recycling day isn't until tomorrow). I'm getting up to date with all the laundry and then going to prep a one pot dinner. Probably mini meatballs.

Need to get lunches sorted, then we'll do homework / reading and then a movie.

Misty9 · 06/01/2019 12:00

The day I planned:
Wake up
Cooked breakfast
Family walk with friends
Roast dinner
Watch movie

How it has actually gone:
Woke up after crappy nights sleep with horribly heavy period
Hung out washing - dh cooked breakfast at least
Kids refused wholesome family walk
Argued with dh about holidays and watching Sunday brunch in my dressing gown. Still.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 06/01/2019 12:02

Gah! Yes!
Adding to list:

  • DD's thank you letters
  • packed lunches
  • finish Christmas pudding (mini one my mum forced me to take not long before we hopped on train home last week...); I actually made brandy butter last night having decided to just not do dry January

De-Christmassing requires that all Christmas confections and snackage be finished, no?! Which also means that Quality Street and cheese needs to be added to 'things to eat do' list! Grin

MrsPear · 06/01/2019 12:06

I’m sitting here in a complete mess on a child’s chair. Suppose to be going panto but now can’t. Moved house yesterday and there is stuff everywhere. The integrated washing machine has dumped water everywhere and the shower doesn’t work.

MrsPear · 06/01/2019 12:08

Oh and I’m paying 1450 a month to live here - bloody private landlords

SageYourResoluteOracle · 06/01/2019 12:10

@Misty9

That's just so typical.

We were a bit like that yesterday: DD suggested we go to our local crazy golf place so the 3 of us set off, happy happy, joy joy. Oooh! What a lovely activity that will be. Fresh air, wholesome family fun etc etc.

The reality was that DD had at least 3 existential crises mid-game (although she's actually quite a good shot these days) and the three of us almost filed for divorce on the second raft across the blue lagoon. I was trying to hold the pulley in place so that DD and DH could get on, DH didn't realise I had let go of the gate and - at that precise moment- DD stepped off the edge, the gate snapped shut and her entire foot was submerged in the freezing cold bright blue water. Blue water inside extortionate Clarks' boot and all! Sakes. There were cross words and hissed voices. Mind you, we were all okay by the time we reached the 16th hole.

Hang on in there!

Parker231 · 06/01/2019 12:11

We’re doing our usual Sunday morning brunch at our local deli and a walk through the park. DT’s are both driving back to Uni this afternoon so they are finishing their packing before their long drives.

PocoyoandEllie · 06/01/2019 12:12

Had a lovely line in of 8am thanks to DS, longest I think for a long time! I fell asleep on the couch watching GOT last night as had an early start for work yesterday so the long sleep was appreciated! Cleaned the bathroom, hoovered and moved DS toys into his room and had a mini sort out of his clothes to take to the charity shop tomorrow (making room for my next sale haul) we are going to walk to the pub at 1pm to meet my mum then a play on the park behind before we go to the panto at half 5 with extended family. Day off tomorrow so that will be food shop then soft play Smile

AmmoniteMum · 06/01/2019 12:13

Batch cooking soups and stews with my new instapot - thanks Mumsnet!

Putting Christmas stuff away.

Finishing off some coursework later.

Quick walk with ddog.

PocoyoandEllie · 06/01/2019 12:13

LIE in!! A line would of been a different extreme Wink

CurbsideProphet · 06/01/2019 12:14

I've just been doing housework in my pjs. Hoovered for the first time in ages Grin tree is coming down today, then going in the garage to dry out for the log burner next year.

I've made a big stew, so that will do for a few years this week.

We were back at work last week, so today isn't too depressing...

CurbsideProphet · 06/01/2019 12:17

A few teas this week. Sometimes autocorrect baffles me.

Starlight90 · 06/01/2019 12:20

Been to the tip/recycling with a load of shit.

Veggies prepped for my Christmas dinner. Was too ill to enjoy it on the day so crown cooking away nicely.

More pottering later.
