Just about to have a bath and want to listen to one of these.

Whats the best one you've listened to?

David Jason and George Michael are both favourites of mine.

Molly Parkin. Amazing surprising gem. She lived, oh boy, she lived but rarely have I heard such raw authenticity of talking about being a sexually liberated woman, an alcoholic and a terrible mother.

I was in a particularly vulnerable place myself at the time and listening to her was a bit of a game changer. I didn't even know who she was until DID.

I’ve waited for this thread for so long and never knew! Thanks

RevokeRemainReform · 05/01/2019 19:45

Tim Minchin
Baroness Newlove

bakingdemon · 05/01/2019 19:45

I love the really old school ones like Princess Margaret and David Niven for the difference in style and the very clipped accents.

Littlefish · 05/01/2019 19:45

Jack Whitehall
Kelsey Grammar

Mrscaindingle · 05/01/2019 19:47

I second David Nott and I also found Phillip Treacy unexpectedly moving when he was talking about his dad and his acceptance of his son who was non conforming and liked traditionally feminine pursuits.
Dustin Hoffman was also good and Pam Ayres.

Hen2018 · 05/01/2019 20:21

David Walliams.

tinstar · 05/01/2019 20:25

Sandy Toskvig, Victoria Wood and Micky Flanagan are my faves.

celtiethree · 05/01/2019 20:27

Hugh Laurie, Dr Sue Black, Julie Birchill. I love desert island discs it’s my favourite walking podcast

celtiethree · 05/01/2019 20:28

Pam Ayres was also v entertaining!

Vulgarlady · 05/01/2019 20:32

I hated the Gary Barlow one. So up himself!

Loved David Mitchell, alan Carr, Philip Treacy, Emma bridgewater. Many more that I have forgotten....

Oh! And the Nigerian sports presenter who is in a wheelchair and played wheelchair basketball, forgotten his name but he was WONDERFUL!

Also love the people that have made a difference in a quiet way: the doctors, the neurosurgeons, campaigners...amazing inspiring stories.

MawkishTwaddle · 05/01/2019 20:34

Alan Carr
Nile Rodgers
Victoria Wood
Tom Hanks
Kate Atkinson
Billie Jean King
Annie Lennox
Anne-Marie Duff
Jane Gardam
Marianne Elliott

Vulgarlady · 05/01/2019 20:35

Also yes yes yes to Billie Jean King ( have no interest in tennis) but she was amazing.

Loved Tracey Thorne too, she seems so nice

Athena51 · 05/01/2019 20:39

Tony Adams, hero of mine and it was very moving with some good music.

I very much enjoyed John Peel's because of the joy of Sue Lawley announcing to the Radio 4 guidance 'that was Eat Y'self Fitter' by The Fall Grin

MWestie · 05/01/2019 20:39

The Mark Gatiss episode with Kirsty Young is lovely. So moving in many unexpected ways. Would second David Nott's too, an amazing, fascinating man. DID is the best radio, utterly compulsive listening almost regardless of who is featured.

Athena51 · 05/01/2019 20:40

Audience not guidance!

crikeycrumbsblimey · 05/01/2019 20:40

David Nott - gentle brave soul
Johnny Vegas - honest and loving
Baroness Newlove - so inspiring
Doreen Lawrence - I wept a bit
Joss Ackland & Guy Garvey - fab music

Haven’t listened to Philip Treacy - just downloaded it

waterrat · 05/01/2019 20:40

Ooh great thread. I came on to say David nott...it actually gives me a lump.in my throat remembering his story of staying in surgery under fire because he didn't want to leave a young Palestinian girl .

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 05/01/2019 20:44

David Nott - his story about having lunch with the Queen is lovely.

Jog22 · 05/01/2019 20:45

Clarissa Dickson-Wright wrote a brilliant autobiography called Spilling the Beans.

crikeycrumbsblimey · 05/01/2019 20:48

They did lots of 80+ people like bill frankland, pamela rose at one point and they were fantastic. Was a RAF pilot but can’t remeber his name.

Also Atul Gawande & Lemn Sissay

Im bit of a fan!

CormoranStrike · 05/01/2019 20:49

There was a doctor on once - he was amazing, I posted in here at the time, wish I could remember his name!

newtlover · 05/01/2019 20:49
