Suggestions for mumsnet forum improvement

Loka123 · 05/01/2019 14:32

I think it'd be great if they used features like thumbs up / thumbs down or just thumbs up that we can "vote/support" other people's comments on people's threads as would prevent everyone repeating the same thing just to reiterate to the OP that there's lots of us thinking the same thing.

Also, perhaps a way to reply to a specific comment by having a reply which will box quote the person's comment and can write reply underneath it rather than bother with @ user name.

Not sure if mumsnet has a feedback contact so thought I'd post here and see what people think? A lot of forums have these features and I think it would be a great addition for this one.

No thanks. It’s been suggested before but rejected by mist posters. Hopefully will continue to be 👍

bsc · 05/01/2019 14:42

Pulls up chair, grabs popcorn.

What, you can't type "thumbs down" or "I don't agree with Loka"???

bsc · 05/01/2019 14:44

What's your reg number, Loka? Because that's the number of months you have to be here before you're allowed on the MN Site Improvement board- it's not viewable to you before then.

Could do with a few more emojis

Try re-posting this in Site Stuff www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff where, strangely enough, MNHQ might see and be able to answer to your requests!

Willbeatjanuaryblues · 05/01/2019 14:52

No!! I cannot stand quote boxes! They drive me mad!

GnothiSeafton · 05/01/2019 15:01

And all these questions have been asked a gazillion times before - as you'll see if you do work your way through all the threads in Site Stuff. The general consensus is a resounding 'no'.

CountessOfNowhere · 05/01/2019 15:07

Sounds like you've just described facebook...

No thanks.

A voting button on AIBU for the people who are convinced they're perfectly reasonable when all the evidence would suggest that their brain is ravaged with syphilis.

JaiNotJay · 05/01/2019 15:16

MNHQ if you are reading, I do not want either of these things.

GnothiSeafton · 05/01/2019 15:20

MNHQ will not be reading this thread! Not unless someone reports it.

BIWI · 05/01/2019 15:25

Are you a name changer @Loka123? Or have you really only been here since 18 December?

If the latter, then don't you think it's a bit rude to rock up and tell us how the site needs to be improved?!

RCohle · 05/01/2019 15:32

If you enjoy those features you're free to use a forum that offers them OP.

GnothiSeafton · 05/01/2019 15:43

I already suggested Site Stuff upthread, with a link, Jenny!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 05/01/2019 15:44

I hate thumbs up/thumbs down. Hope that’s not introduced.

Loka123 · 05/01/2019 15:50

Jeez I wasn't expecting so much backlash and rudeness in response to this thread. I was merely suggesting a potential change.. if every person got this shot down for suggesting a change, we'd still be on myspace nor would facebook, softwares, etc bring out upgrades and changes.

@BIWI Name change - I definitely have been on here longer than 2 weeks lol but anyhow, even if someone joined today, I think everyone is entitled to an opinion, especially when it's a constructive feedback suggestion. It's not like I posted rudely declaring this forum is total shit or something.

@bsc well of course I can but sometimes would help to make things quicker by having a thumbs up feature especially when trying to help/respond to a number of threads. It would also be a nice way for the OP of a thread to acknowledge they've read or appreciated someone's response but don't feel the need to reply.

If people wouldn't want this features, that's fair enough but no need to act like I've said something horrid and rude.

@MorningsEleven - yes I do agree with you on that one especially, would be cool if the original post on AIBU had a yes/no thumbs up/down on which voters/responders can use if they wish.

Thank you for the people who suggested the appropriate forum section for this kind of post - I wasn't aware of it.

You can make suggestions, of course you can.

I would say though that yanno, MN is a chat type board where we use our words.

HTH. Smile

IknowTheBoswellJoke · 05/01/2019 16:03

I'd love there to be a like/dislike button. I think that mumsnet is becoming an echo chamber.

Most leave voters have quit posting, Tory voters have to wade through accusations of hating disabled people etc but if the lurkers could react to posts then I think a more realistic world view would be represented, if only in likes.

BIWI · 05/01/2019 16:09

Why don't lurkers have the courage of their convictions, then, and post?

It's only an echo chamber if people don't participate!

bsc · 05/01/2019 16:11

Seriously, you think people that joined a forum today should make improvement suggestions?
