Japan - Fried runny eggs with boiled rice?

I watched a little of the Japanese animation From up on Poppy Hill by Miyazaki. In one scene breakfast is being served and a fried runny egg is served with boiked rice. Is that something people would actually have?

Katsu curry is the best and well loved by all of my Japanese colleagues. It can be made with a breaded chicken fillet, sticky rice (or any rice really), and by using a Japanese curry sauce. These are available in Waitrose (or some Tesco’s). Japan Centre online is a good resource for sauces, authentic Japanese rice and bento accessories etc.

On another note we regularly have Nasi Goreng with a fried egg on top. It’s amazing.

I didn't see the whole film because I wasn't interested in the romantic pair and the way that was all set out.

I'm familiar with savoury food, including rice and noodles, for breakfast, it's my preference chillies over sweets.

I knew about many rice dishes with eggs, but i was unaware of a fried egg over rice so really I was just asking about that and it's been interesting hearing about the other dishes. I don't think i wool do the raw egg version but i enjoyed reading about it.

As for how this quite simple and mild mannered topic led to such contention, it's a curiosity for another time. I highly recommend everyone goes off and makes their favourite rice dishfrom anywhere in the world and be wonderfully comforted by it.

Yes to new Malden. Dd loves a restaurant there called jin go gae. They do an amazing beef short rib in sauce. Delish.

Rice and runny egg is one of my favourite comfort foods. Sometimes with sliced raw salmon too. So good.
