Binning a trad purse for just a card holder

PouchofDouglas · 04/01/2019 08:50

I largely don’t use cash at all, either Apple Pay on my phone or my debit card. I’ve got all my loyalty cards on the Stocard app. Has anybody else binned their traditional purse?

And any tips on card holders

Where would I put my mountain of receipts?

swirlette · 04/01/2019 08:56

I've got one which is a bit of a cross between the two - a little zip part with card slots on the other side. It's perfect - means I can carry a bit of change when I have it but doesn't take up much space! Looks like Kate Spade have one similar (mine's White Company and they don't do them any more).

I've got a flip case with a wallet in. The receipts go in there. I don't have a purse any more. Cash goes into a pot to be banked.

I use a little card holder for day to day. I don’t quite dare to totally stop using my purse, so I do tend to carry it in the bottom of my bag when I’m out and about (with a small amount of cash, my driving licence, loyalty cards etc. in it) but I almost never have to use it.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 04/01/2019 09:01

Oh and the card holder I use was from Ted Baker, it has cat ears and I love it.

Baaaaala · 04/01/2019 09:06

I have a case on my mobile that has a slot for 3 cards, that's my purse now!

PouchofDouglas · 04/01/2019 09:26

Ah now. Can’t stand phones in cases. Too mumsy- like texting with forefingers

Phone has a shell case.
I’d put receipts in my bag then keep somewhere else. Most I bin anyway.
Loyalty cards on the app now

I have! Phone case with pockets for cards and then keep a small amount of cash in my pocket.

NonaGrey · 04/01/2019 09:35

You don’t ever use cash? Not even for parking meters, or to buy from an ice cream van?

You don’t need to send in £1 coins for charity days at your DC’s school
Or put money into office collections?

My mind is boggled!

Torsz · 04/01/2019 09:37

I stopped using a purse about 5 years ago, love my card holder ☺️ it has a bit in the middle where I have about 4-5 cards (plus cards at each side), receipts and also a £5/10 note folded up, although I only actually use the cash every few months. Stocard app definitely helped me reduce my total number of cards.
I'd never go back to having a purse!

PouchofDouglas · 04/01/2019 09:38

Very rarely. Kids older. Don’t buy ice teams. Parking on app

I've got too much shit to get rid. receipts from 2002, hair ties and halve a honey and lemon locket...all essential obviously

MeetOnTheledge · 04/01/2019 09:44

I have both, small card holder with an emergency tenner folded into it, for going out without a bag, plus traditional purse with other credit cards, all the store cards (didn't know there was an app for them), library card, stamps, NT entry card, notes and coins. I do mainly still use this one but do quite often go out with just the cardholder now. I keep coins for parking in the car, no app here and the pay by card system is slow and clunky.

lboogy · 04/01/2019 09:44

I almost never use cash. I Apple Pay every where I go. I got a card holder which I carry around just in case but I reckon in future I'll ditch that too

howhowhow · 04/01/2019 09:46

I keep my debit card in the back of my phone shell case. I mostly use Apple Pay but have it with me for emergencies!!

JollyAndBright · 04/01/2019 09:48

I don’t use a purse at all, I haven’t for years.

I also don’t use hand bags.

We have a jar of £1’s and 50p’s for school etc, keep a stash of change in the car for parking/trolleys etc.
And I usually have a £10 or £20 note and one bank card in my pocket for the unlikely event somewhere doesn’t take Apple Pay/contactless.
(I also only carry a key, my phone and lip balm.)

I’m a strong believer in the phrase “if it doesn’t fit in your pocket you don’t need it.”

Babdoc · 04/01/2019 09:49

I haven’t used a purse or a handbag for over 20 years. I stick my card holder and phone in one pocket and my keys, a tenner and a tissue in the other. I keep spare change in the car for parking, and a few quid in the house for the window cleaner etc.
There are plenty of ATMs around if you need cash while out.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 04/01/2019 09:51

The only time I use cash is because at some stations where you have to pay to use the loos. That’s literally the only reason I carry a few coins with me Grin

ourkidmolly · 04/01/2019 09:52

Can you put reward cards in the Apple wallet? I've never had much luck when trying that. Got my Apple Pay and Costa reward but that's it. Would love to get rid.

MeetOnTheledge · 04/01/2019 09:54

While I try and go out without a bag for short trips, for work and days in town I do need somewhere to carry reusable shopping bags and cup (I won't put it in a back pocket in crowded places). I also have quite a lot of clothes without pockets, eg dresses so need a bag then.

Torsz · 04/01/2019 09:55

@ourkidmolly no but the stocard app works with all reward cards I have and it's free ☺️

MeetOnTheledge · 04/01/2019 09:55

I neant phone in back pocket, not cup.

fussychica · 04/01/2019 09:57

I have a hard shell card holder. Actually I have several in beautiful designs which are super easy to find in my handbag. I also have a tiny material purse for cash which I keep to a minimum. I've done this for several years. Works for me.

PipGoesPop · 04/01/2019 10:00

Texting with forefingers is mumsy?
