Fuck! What have I done to my car?

Bashed a high kerb. Can't call DH, he's at work. Think the hubcap is pushed in rather than the tyre coming off?

Is it safe to drive? Do I need to take to garage?

Bit difficult to say from.that description tbh!

Take the hubcaps off and see if it looks ok?

potatoscone · 03/01/2019 13:26

Show us a picture?

Description tells us nothing.

cjt110 · 03/01/2019 13:27

If you meal the wheel trim it's fine... just pull it out. If the actuall wheel - the metal bit inside the tyre is pushes in, no you won't be able to drive it if it's near the lip of the tyre.

That said... I hit a pothole... 4 weeks later I heard a bang like I'd run over a stone. Snapped the driveshaft. Car was fucked.

FrostyMoanyWind · 03/01/2019 13:28

Argh! It won't post!

Take it to a garage and see what they say.

gamerchick · 03/01/2019 13:30

I wouldn't drive that OP.

Knittedfairies · 03/01/2019 13:31

That's not looking good; I'd get the garage to have a look.

badreams · 03/01/2019 13:31

I'd take it to the garage tbh if there's one close. I wouldn't want to drive that very far

BaronessBomburst · 03/01/2019 13:31

The tyre looks damaged.
I wouldn't drive on that. Do you have breakdown cover?
If not, call a local garage.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2019 13:32

Looks like you've partially split the tyre wall I think. I'd take it to a tyre place for a replacement.

Don't worry, it happens. You were unlucky to get such a gouge though.

Hezz · 03/01/2019 13:32

Definitely don't drive it, you'll cause more damage. Can you call the AA/RAC?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2019 13:33

Do you have a spare tyre available?

BaronessBomburst · 03/01/2019 13:34

If you absolutely have to drive, keep in the lowest gear possible and crawl along with your hazards on. The tyre could go at any time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2019 13:34

Definitely wouldn't drive on it!

BringOnTheScience · 03/01/2019 13:34

Put your spare wheel on, then take the damaged one for repair.

potatoscone · 03/01/2019 13:35

Take the hubcap off, it just looks pushed in a bit. Once that's off you will be able to see if there is any damage underneath. Does the tyre look damaged of it that just dirt scraped along it?

babysharkah · 03/01/2019 13:36

I don't think you should drive on that looks like you have split the eyre. Can you change it for the spare?

potatoscone · 03/01/2019 13:36

If you absolutely have to drive, keep in the lowest gear possible and crawl along with your hazards on. The tyre could go at any time.

Lol. Don't do this. If the wheel is buckled driving slowly won't prevent further damage. The tyre is unlikely to go anywhere, unless it's deeply cut and the light in the picture isn't showing it, in which case call your breakdown company.

BarbaraofSevillle · 03/01/2019 13:37

Do you have a spare wheel that you can put on? Tyre looks damaged and sadly it probably needs replacing.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 03/01/2019 13:39

Are people seeing a gouge where is marked with dirt? I’m only seeing the sharp line of dirt where it’s hit the kerb. No gouge.

ChubRubTheStruggleIsReal · 03/01/2019 13:41

Call the AA

twoheaped · 03/01/2019 13:41

That looks like an alloy rather than a hubcap and the tyre wall looks damaged.
Spare wheel on if you've got one, breakdown service, or find a local garage to give their opinion on it.
Did you whack it hard?
