How long does labor start after sweep

Mums i had my sweep this morning for DS2, how long does labor start after sweep. I had it done for DS1 but ended up being induced the following morning. I was hoping things will be better with DS2 and enjoy normal labor without induction. However, i. Experiencing mild contractions/lower abdominal pains..i keep praying and hoping they lead to labor. Im so anxious and cannot wait for his arrival.

Doesn’t always start labour. I had two when pregnant and nothing happened

Caroian · 02/01/2019 15:50

Unfortunately there is no answer to this question.

For some women a sweep will kick things off after a few hours. For others it will do nothing at all. I still wasn't in labour a week after my first sweep.

Hope you have your little one soon though

I had 2 sweeps with dd and neither worked

Well I had a sweep a week ago and still waiting!

GinTimeAtHome · 02/01/2019 16:02

Sweeps don’t always work, mine didn’t

my midwife said if I had nothing within the first 4-6 hours chances are it didn’t work 🤷‍♀️

TerfTerfTerf3 · 02/01/2019 16:10

Not to piss on your chips but if my two hadn't been induced (syntocin drip), they would still be in there and they're now 15 and 17! Second one started slow labour three weeks before EDD and was born at 42weeks.... They're still lazy now Grin
Three sweeps for each of them too!

OstrichRunning · 02/01/2019 16:11

I had low abd pain straight after mine like you op, and went into labour the following evening - baby was born three hours after labour started Shock

fingers crossed for you

Two pregnancies, two sweeps and neither worked. They were painful and pointless. Never again.

heyLin · 02/01/2019 16:28

Crossing fingers as well. Your comment is encouraging.

The pains are quiet convincing bt experience taught me better.

I had a sweep at 11.30am, mild pains at 4pm, decided to have a bath to see if pains went about 5pm, contractions every 2-5mins by 6pm, rang labour ward to be told 3 closest labour wards were closed Hmm, MW realised I wasn't going to get to a hospital 40mins drive away so said to come in. DD born at 8pm. However, the Consultant who did the sweep (39wks) did say my cervix was ripe and waters were bulging so I was more than ready and would probably have gone into labour naturally that weekend anyway.

heyLin · 02/01/2019 16:42

Thank you for that

I had one, nothing happened for a week so they did another and still nothing. I wasn't dilated at all though

heyLin · 02/01/2019 17:46

OP posts:
OstrichRunning · 02/01/2019 19:26

I was two cm. How are you feeling now?

heyLin · 02/01/2019 19:44

The pains are still there, im hanging in there hoping it will progress soon.

SoyDora · 02/01/2019 19:44

I was 2-3cms when I had mine last week too 😩

14allall41 · 02/01/2019 20:25

With my 4th dc I had a sweep at 40 + 5. Immediately started contractions as consultant accidentally broke my waters 😬 Went home (having home birth) and baby born 4.5 hours later

WeShouldOpenABar · 02/01/2019 20:28

I was one cm when I had mine at 12 went home and did a few deep squats and was in labour by four, luck of the draw

heyLin · 03/01/2019 04:00

Hi ladies. Ok so i was in pain the whole and nothing is happening. What a waist of pain and energy as i will need it to push. So i guess it depends on ones body, chances of it working are slim.

I had four or five and nine worked, was induced at 41+10
